BioWare, can we get some old school weapons? A long or short bow, trident, tomahawk, daggers, quaterstaff... et cetera. I have a few ideas of how this could work.

Bow and arrow = shoots arrows with EMP or plasma explosives.

Trident = Light metal alloy with three prongs that ignite small energy swords at the tip

Tomahawk = baton that ignites a small energy axe-blade on the upper side.

Daggers = two medium-small sized knifes that hang on the size of our belt. When wielded, they glow. Or two medium-large sized knifes that we can place on our backs that also glow when wielded.

Quarterstaff = small baton made of metal alloys that extends when wielded.

If you cannot fit that into the base-game, I am certain a free weapons DLC would not hurt.

And the lore for these would be...?

I get the feeling most (vocal) people prefer less space fantasy. I can be swayed either way if the explanation's good.

I like the idea of melee weapons, like the Krogan Hammer. If we get the biotic hammer ability back that would be awesome.

We're not in Medievil time's in ME so the tech's better than these dumb gimick weapon's, go to DA or one of the many other game's set in this era for those.

I think your ideas for weapons are probably many times worst than anything Bioware can come up with. So they should use this list as an example of what not to add to Andromeda. :D

 Are you really asking for the background of these common weapon ideas?

Like the space ninja Kai "Gaiden" Leng?

tumblr_m0x660MGCr1qdlunvo2_r2_500.jpg

Like in Star Wars the wizard jedis with the laser dildos? Leng wasnt enough? If so i want a warhammer/greatsword with sci-fi lights on it and i want it to shoot exploding laser beams.

I hate the idea of melee weapons in ME like space-swords and oversized hammers, but I hate the idea of bows and arrows and daggers and such even more.

If melee weapons don't fit the base game I seriously doubt a free dlc could possibly add a melee focused character and still be a reasonable budget.

Don't get me wrong, I love Space Swords, 40K is one of my favorite future sci-fi settings, but ME isn't really the space for that. If they had better personal shields/armor so that combatants could survive closing to enemies then maybe, but ME isn't really built that way.

No. Equipable melees do not fit with the core combat gameplay of Mass Effect.

Instead have a slot in our inventory that can customize our base melee attack. This slot contributes to the player's weight capacity.

- You want to carry that hammer? Well you aren't a Krogan so its going to weigh you down something fierce.

- Want that fancy ninja sword? You better actually know how to use it, because its going to affect your weight capacity.

- Want something lightweight? Just beat things to death with your gun or use the omni-bow for long-range 'melee' attacks.

What we need is the gun that shoots Thresher Maws.

Are you purposefully being obtuse?

Why should I use a bow and arrow (even a "space" bow and arrow) when I can just shoot someone with a gun? How does the space bow and arrow work and what are its advantages over a lead metal shaving salad?

Kai Leng was ****ing cringeworthy just for his cyber Liu Kang style thing.  Never mind the constant whining and invincibility cheese, I wanted him dead for literally bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Expanding melee options and weapons would be good, but something near the realistic end of the scale would be nice.  Combat knives, stun batons, usuable riot shield type equipment (not like the Paladin in the MP had, since it prevented movement once deployed)...all of those could have valid uses, and in fact already have precursors in the current game (omni-blades/bayonets, pistol stun attachments and the Cerberus/CAT-6 shields).

Ammo was turned into Heat Sinks; I am almost certain a story could be created.

Crysis tells the story of a guy running around in an armored suit with an advanced bow and arrow; in Star Wars Jedi use laser swords; and in Stargate the enemies use staffs that shoot plasma.

Yeah and that sucked.

Not saying it's impossible to make a good explanation. But it does need to be made, and made well.

Oh yes, please force bow & arrow in yet another modern/future setting where it doesn't fit in th slightest ... not.

Tomahawk: Sure, but we should only use it for opening doors, right? :P

Trident: Yea, let's just go with the omni flail instead:

OmniFlail_zps07ed0c62.jpg

Daggers: I wouldn't mind having a combat knife IF (and I stress the if) it would be integrated in the gameplay in some meaningful way. If not, leave it be.

Extendable quarterstaff: Ranger Marcus and the Minbari wuld like to file a complaint against you in the patent office.

In conclusion, please keep it scifi BW and leave the medieval weaponry to the DA series.

No thank you. Weapons like bows and swords make no tactical sense in the ME universe and do not fit the established lore. I can't imagine them being incorporated into the game without it appearing silly and out of place just like Kai Leng.

Quiet, stealth, and good for disabling machines without giving away your position.

Silenced pistol/rifle?

Assuming of course some element of stealth mechanics get written in. Otherwise your space bow and arrow will draw aggro as much as a gun.

Nothing wrong with a combat knife. As soon as I read that, I pictured the Hunter class from Destiny. And a riot shield would also be nice, too.

(Insert "why not both meme")

I can easily imagine some kind of special mission types where you would need more unorthodox weapons.

Not saying it's impossible to make a good explanation. But it does need to be made, and made well.

(Announcer codex voice) In the year 2190, the Alliance created an advanced bow and arrow made of a plasteel alloy with stealth properties to allow explosives and gadgets to be launched without the user being easily detectable. Because of its low cost, easy to produce, and easily modable body, the bow and arrow still see limited use on missions where other weapons would be overkill.
