It's a gold rush economy. The stuff you're finding is worth more now, both because everything costs more, and the shop owners can claim cachet from bandying your name about, as a famous person who does business with their shop. Trust me, they'll charge you more too, if you ever need anything from them.
Here in America, the gourmet shops carry special imported goods from Britain that are decorated with an elaborate symbol and emblazoned with the words, "By appointment to Her Majesty." You can buy the same thing in the ordinary grocery store for 2/3 the price, but, hey, you have a plastic bag from Whole Foods. Can I borrow it, the cat box needs emptying. It's a tax stamp, it just looks different than ours, which is a price tag that says tax extra. Sometimes they don't even bother with that and you ought to know that candy and soda pop cost extra in your state because unhealthy stuff costs more.
