That's pretty interesting. Out of curiousity, could the same technique be used to create unstackable potions? I.e. master thievery gives immunity to further master thievery while in effect?

Unfortunately, no.  Potion effects are applied via flat bonuses, not spells. Example; Fire Resistance potion. Gives you 50% fire res. If you give this potion "immunity to effect  - Fire resistance bonus" you'll prevent other spells (like Pro Fire, Pro Elements) from working, at least when it comes to modifiying resistance to fire. Likewise, drinking such a potion would make one immune to Firkraag's Lower Fire Resistance ability.

Iirc, Improved Anvil's resistance potions are also "unstackable" but the way it's handled (via .bcs script) is outright awful.

Item Revisions goes around that by making potions "cast a spell" at drinker; which then includes protection from itself, so it's impossible to stack them. Rogue Rebalancing does  the same; but only with Thieving potions (albeit in a slightly different manner).

1) Stealing from shops... never did that because a) I never liked that and b) I never put much points into pickpocket. I play with revised thievery (potions of thievery don't stack, don't give any bonuses after level 13) so without investing points you can't raise the skill high enough to steal anything (especially from shops). It's somewhat different in my current games as I've raised pickpocket high enough so I can steal from npcs (ring of regeneration from ribald, potions of invulnerability from amnian soldiers,...).

2) Never used that one. Can't see any of my chars to cut their hand of and replace it with the claw :D.

3) Haven't played much with the new npcs (especially in BG2) so I don't know about their items. As for other new items, for me it's hard to tell if they EE items or not :D.

4) Never did that. Also I never used a wand of cloud kill. Well actually I've used it once in my very first BG2 play through... I used the wand to kill the shadow dragon. I continued playing but felt so bad about it that I deleted the saves and restarted from anew (and never again used a wand of cloud kill, the spell or similar wands/spells).

5) Didn't know that as I usually don't use that spell. But I was very surprised to see that traps (laid by a thief) also trigger the fire shield damage (the thief gets hurt if he's too close to the mage).

Have just been to TeamBG to get the most Up-to-date version of "The Darkest Day."

The links don't appear to be working.

Anyone have any idea why and where is the best source of this mod?

I know that you can get 1.14 from Spellhold studios, but cannot find the patch for ToB.

I have also found TDDsinTDD which is supposed to have some of the good stuff in TDD but without the bugs. Does anyone know anything about it?

I might use it instead of TDD as it is supposed to be WEIDU.

@Wise - I went to the TeamBG site, and clicked the link which simply said "Download" - it downloaded just fine. Maybe you got browser issues? Try the same site but different browser - I used Internet Explorer to successfully do the download.

Thanks Corey.

I did as you suggested, ended up on a different page which works fine.

It is actually the same file that I already had, but have learned from bitter experience to use the latest version of mods, so I always download again.

(Have also learned from bitter experience to keep copies of mods as they sometimes disappear from the web. :(

Konalan's Tweaks and Frabjous re-roller both disappeared for a time. :(

What I find really annoying however is Norton deleting Konalan's Tweaks and other perfectly OK programs. :(

Interesting Wise. I thought that was hard coded, but maybe not. I thought a multi can only have ** in weapon skill. No idea why it wouldn't let you equip them.

I think that it was BG2 Tweaks that changed that though I could be wrong.

Norton is really renowned for false positives - we stopped using it at work, and I use Avast at home, which is much better than Norton at those kind of things.

Afaik the one from SHS should work with ToB.

TDDsinTDD I've tried. You get kits & items - you can buy them from a shop in Goverment District. I don't think spells are available. IIrc, it's available as a Weidu download from some spanish page.

I have downloaded it but had some issues such as the fact that the web page was in Spanish and that is one language that I don't speak.

On Honeymoon I had to use French in the hills of Majorca as the locals didn't speak English.

Are the commands for installation in English?

Am currently re-installing my SoA installation.

First mod is ToB-ex.

In Tutu the following line installed fine.

~TOBEX/TOBEX.TP2~ #0 #119 // Remove all race-class restrictions: Beta 0025

However that part of ToB-ex will not install in SoA.

Any explanations and/or solutions?

Mod was downloaded from here:

https://kerzenburg.b....eu/bwpmods.php

In addition in Freedom's reign, the ToB part of the mod won't install. :(

From the above link, couldn't download ritempack. :( So glad that I had a saved copy on external hard drive. :)

Always keep a copy of mods as there are regularly broken links. :(

Whilst I am still interested in getting answers to the above questions, the installation is now complete, so there is no urgency.

Let's hope that it works OK. :)

Also hope that there are enough surprises to keep the game interesting.

EDIT

Installation doesn't work!! :(

Back to the drawing board. :(

Weidu log below. If anyone could tell me what is wrong, i would appreciate it.

In addition in Freedom's reign, the ToB part of the mod won't install. :(

I'd say you *need* Throne of Bhaal installed for ToBex to work.

My only suggestion would be to drop Tutu and use BGTrilogy instead - that way, you don't have to worry about custom kits not transferring properly to SoA part etc.

Per mod downloads (and megamod installs) I'd say that using BWS program is probably the easiest solution. Try reading here for more info.

It's a very simple to use program; which downloads and installs mods/components via graphical interface, by an established/tested sequence, so there isn't much room for error - if mod X requires mod Y to work properly, you'll be notified. If mod X is incompatible with mod Z, you'll be notified etc.

Wise if you have a bg2 engine (tutu or whatever) then the two files you need for character building is DualClas.2DA (dual class chart)

screenshot-%28354%29.png

and clsrcreq.2da (what race can be what class chart)…

screenshot-%28353%29.png

you can edit these using notepad (a 1 = yes and a 0 =no) then drop the file into your game override folder.

Thanks. :) That might be what has caused the problem of the set-up not running. However, I think not as my previous installation worked.

Hello all,

I'd like to ask for pointers for dealing safely with Battle Horrors - they have negative THAC0, massively negative AC, about 150 HP, deal 10-20 damage per hit (meaning that drinking potions can't keep up) and can't really be kited (since they use ranged weaponry as well as melee). Most accounts I've read mention discharging wands of Frost, however that's not a solution for my party (which was exclusively composed of Fighters, Rangers and Paladins).

Sounds like you've got a modded version of battle horrors - in vanilla they don't have any ranged capability and can therefore be easily taken down by ranged magical attacks.  For your party discharging volleys from wands of magic missiles and the necklace of missiles (and possibly fireball potions) in between running away should make killing them easy enough even if they have ranged capability.  If you have the patience for it your ranger could kill them using stealth attacks, but that might take a while ...

Edit: after reading your final BG1 post it looks like the battle horrors teleport as well, so just running away won't necessarily be good enough.  It sounds to me like they're distinctly over-powered for BG1, so you might need to resort to some cheese of your own, e.g. keeping moving to prevent melee attacks and sharing around missile protection items (Nimbul's boots, cloak, belt in addition to shield amulet) during the battle to foil ranged attacks.  That should allow an all fighter group to last long enough to do the job.

Is ranged capabilites and teleporting the only thing different from vanilla BG1 your battle horrors can do? If so, if you have the appropriate levels and equipment, it should be possible to kill them by focusing them with melee weapons (ranged weapons won't work), considering you can't use most wands or spells with your party. Provided you get them to focus a high ac target (all the best ac items available should go on your best tank, and if it's possible to easily obtain better ac improving items, do that first - you should be fine with -9 ac and the golden girdle (if they still use swords in melee range), though more is certainly nice and can easily be achieved via potions) and use powerful magical melee weapons, that is - it's possible that you might have to use a couple of potions ***giant strength and maybe potions of heroism considering their high ac, and oils of speed also really help. If you don't have access to the buffs, nukes and wands a balanced party can provide, heavy use of potions is recommended.

Battle horrors are definitely a lategame encounter for a party like yours - generally, you should avoid the few areas where you'll encounter them until you are as prepared as possible.

@vbigiani

Do you use PnP version of those? If yes, than their ranged attacks are afaik magic missile strikes, which don't miss. I don't know if Shield amulet (or spell) could stop those. Magic Shielding potion can thwart the damage somewhat as well.

You can only avoid them up until Davaeorn in Cloakwood mines, where you'll meet two of those.

Thanks all,

after sleeping on it and running a couple of trials, it appears that their ranged capabilities are easily ignored (they have a ranged weapon that deals about 5 damage per hit, as well as 5 casts of Magic Missile). In melee, after watching out for their 3 Dimensional Doors, it's possible to get one to focus on a ridiculously high-AC target (-12 AC -9 vs Slashing = -21 effective) - I can't win a straight duel, but it's enough to let the rest of the party kill one with the Wand of MM and elemental ammo. I'm glad I'll restart with a thief and thus won't have to fight them in Cloakwood :)

FYI:

After spending an inordinate amount of time searching for Screenshots, saved games, character files etc. etc. in the enhanced edition game, I at last found them.

They are NOT where you would expect to find them.

They are here, not in your installation directory, though the path may vary slightly depending on your computer set-up:

C:\Users\User\Documents\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition

I will definitely be creating a short-cut to that folder.

Well, better late than never, right?

I've been able to play up to chapter 6 in BG2 without anything going wrong, so I think I'm ready to release Jimfix v2. It can be downloaded here. If you're using v1 you should be able to just unzip v2 right on top of it and overwrite the old files when asked. v2 has four new components:

  • Fix incorrect casting animations
  • Prevent silent prebuffs
  • Add spell school notifications to the combat log
  • Add expiration notifications for buffs

I've included a proper readme this time as well. I'm not entirely satisfied with the implementation of the last two components, though. They can add a lot of extra messages to the combat log, but the BG2 engine doesn't really allow for much better.

I just tried to install your mod for EasyTutu + full SCS v.21 (with ~SETUP-SCS.TP2~ #0 #5033 // Smarter mages -> Mages use spells from BG1 and BG2; mages pre-buff: v21

~SETUP-SCS.TP2~ #0 #5043 // Smarter priests -> Priests use spells from BG1 and BG2; priests pre-buff: v21) but the component *Prevent silent prebuffs* failed saying something like:

SKIPPING: [Prevent silent prebuffs]
Smarter Mages not installed

It works fine with SoA/ToB + Ascension + SCS v.21.

Can you look into this? Thanks!

I can't download this, but the tp2 file probably has a piece of code saying something like:

REQUIRE_PREDICATE (either "mod is installed", "file exists in game", "!file exsists"). Try removing that.
