Sorry, I never tested it in Tutu. Aasim is correct that the REQUIRE_PREDICATE line is the issue, but I'm not sure why it would still fail to install after you removed it. In any case, I really just need to rewrite that component with a much simpler solution.

Thanks both of you! =)

At least

- Add spell school notifications to the combat log (I'm playing with sound off mostly)

and

- Add expiration notifications for buffs.
work flawlessly. That's all I could wish =)

@Wise, Thats where I would expect to find them on a modern Windows system... I see you grabbed Xmas special have a look at whats about to come out for it here;

http://www.dragonmag...?loadFresh=true

I expected to find them in the installation directory as per ToSC, SoA, Icewind Dale, etc. etc.

Interesting link. I had already read it due to going to another forum for EE information.

I have just played the black pits, (Not "no reload") and am wondering how that fits in. Any characters who finish that will be WAY too powerful for EE Baldur's Gate unless you have mods installed. (Only two of my Black Pits Characters survived the final round. I was hoping that they might be raised ready for export)

Perhaps going straight from Black Pits to Dragonspear will be an option.

Really?... that is the world wide realise of the new characters stories "Glint Gardnersonson" will give Jan a run for his money in the BS's Olympics... Even Beamdog didn't post any of it.

Black pits is completely stand alone... The original idea was just to test character builds for combat viability but it grew on people that want a fast outcome

DragonSpear = the bit between bg1 and bg2 i.e, how did you go from killing Sarevok and becoming the hero of Baldur's Gate to waking up naked and sore inside a cage at the club Irenicus

Don't have Tutu, but you can use the following code to scan all scripts.

Thank you for the suggestion, but in this case I think it's possible to get the same effect by modifying the spell files rather than the scripts. If it's still not working like it should, I'll try the code you posted.

The updated version of Jimfix is here.

I suppose that displaying the line in the spell is a more elegant approach than recompiling the scripts so that they display the string themselves - unfortunately my modding skills are too rusty for elegant approaches now :)

I tried the new version, but now it just

Requires Smarter Mages

Are you still using SCS v21? My mod was designed for SCS v30. I don't know if silent prebuffs are an issue in v21.

Yep, I'm still on v.21 and don't plan to switch as I'm not sure v.30 is polished enough already. Anyway with //expiration notifications for buffs// silent prebuffs issue doesn't matter too much. Thanks again for this brilliant mod!

I have made a small mod that will save characters' statistics to a text file, to make it easier to post updates.

The result will look like this:

Jane Shepard:
Kills: 319 (32% of party)
Deaths: KEEP COUNT MANUALLY!
XP Gain: 54330 (25% of party)
Best Kill: Kahrk (3500 XP)
Favorite Weapon: Halberd +1
Favorite Spell: Biotic Charge

Urdnot Wrex:
<snip>

Previously in the party:

Imoen:
<snip>

It cannot save the death counter on its own, so you need to fill in that information automatically. It could, in theory, export game statistics, but doing so would be a bit more complicated than what I can do in a couple of hours (for ex., to export HP totals, I'd need to manually add in the Constitution bonus and and active effects).

What versions of the game have you tested it on i.e, tutu, bigW, gog, Beamdog & steam?

The only variant of BG that I have doubts about is plain BG or TotSC (EE, BGT and Tutu should all work). Moreover, it doesn't change save games or game files, so it most definitively won't create issues :)

Quick question for the experts: if making a two weapon fighter, how many points should I put in each type ofweapon proficiencies? Is specialization as far as I should go, or is mastery/grandmaster worth it, assuming I un-nerf grandmastery? Thinking of dualling at lvl 9 since this is my first dual, but is that the right choice?

I'm thinking of dualling a Wizard Slayer to Thief, and I was thinking long swords and either short swords or bastards, or both. I'm digging the idea of an evil WS->thief getting his hands on the Purifier and other good guy-only items via UAI and corrupting them.

So this character with no armour, spells or shield moves into melee combat against 3 targets and dies (over and over and over)?

I'd go for mastery of long swords for the equiliser then carry what ever short sword gives me a defence spell but it's not going to end well when you melee something like mind flayers that does touch attacks.

For most purposes I think you're better off concentrating on getting grand mastery with one weapon rather than spreading the points around (even with vanilla grand mastery).  If dualling at level 9 you could put 5 pips into, say, long swords and 2 into two-weapon wielding before you dual.

You don't say whether you intend to have a party.  As ussnorway hinted making progress up to getting UAI would be a very hard slog for that character if solo, so I guess you're looking to have companions ...

My apologies, yes. Thinking of grabbing all the "evil" characters (Korgan, Viconia, Edwin, and eventually Sarevok) and trying an evil playthrough. I'm currently working on a reloading game for general knowledge of the game since I've never actually finished TOB, only gotten to Amkethran.

-USSNorway- thanks for advice! Just wrapped up the Underdark and my only answer to Flayers was haste+DUHM+righteous magic and portions of genius. Or Minsc beserking with Adjatha. I hate them.

-Grond0- thanks! My proficiencies question mostly arose from reading Alesia's posts and it seems like she uses every weapon in the game depending on the situation, whether for immunities or resistances or on hit effects, but I can't see how her characters could be proficient in all of them so was wondering how she made that work.

Both of your runs are always inspiring (and entertaining) reading. I appreciate your input. I always have to make an effort not to sound like too much of a fanboy when I talk to people on this forum.

Oh and bear with my formatting and spelling, I tend to post on my phone, which is clumsy.

Cheers to you both!

Alesia typically employs pretty refined tactics which will entirely eliminate risk assuming no mistakes - it therefore doesn't matter much whether her characters have a good chance to hit, so there's no need to be proficient in weapons (weapon proficiency has no impact on whether weapon immunities and resistances work).  That does also mean, however, that there's no great advantage to her in having a high chance to hit and I think she would tend to spread proficiencies around more than I would.

Understand that a fighter class can use weapons without taking points in them that would be silly for a pure thief to consider... I would go for a backstabbing build instead of DW but it's your game mate.

While getting stabby will be important, early game the thief will be unable to use any skill boosting items besides the shadow armor, so I'll likely focus on open locks and detect traps/illusions so that I retain utility. Just occurred to me though that it could be a mostly ranged character and specialize in shortbows..

Ussnorway- why the love for the equalizer? It takes a long time to get when you can get charm and domination immunity from adjatha much more quickly, as well as fear immunity from Dragonslayer. Equalizer has always seemed like one of the least powerful artifacts to me, but maybe I'm missing something?

Good str gives daggers. axes and darts for range... opening up new weapons. A shortbow does give two attacks per round so thats nice.

The equalizer  I play with is a flat +6 to hit weapon and the thief class played as a melee needs the bonus tha0… even fighter duelled to thief will still have high (bad) tha0 for most of the game.

There are plenty of other/ better ways to stop dominations without gimping your weapons… late game options = the "Foebane +5" spell stacks to give high health but as a bastard sword it can’t back stab. The "Hindo's Doom +4" can backstab and the magic blocking helps sometimes but only "the equalizer" will hurt a target protected by ‘Absolute Immunity’

Oh, huh. Does it behave that way on vanilla or at least, only fix and tweakpack? I'm not at home but will post my weidu later tonight. I've been using sorcerer's place for item info and it says it (the equalizer) always hits as a +3 weapon.

EDIT: capitals are important!

I believe ussnorway has a personally modded version of the Equalizer; for everyone else it's a fairly underwhelming weapon for late stages of SoA - ToB

In vanilla it is +3 - it also has charm immunity and immunity to fear I think. In SoA, the Equalizer and the Blade of Roses are the only +3 long swords that I know of. So even in vanilla it definitely has its uses. Not many things give immunity to fear, so if solo that can be quite helpful, especially for dealing with the 4th pocket plane tear.

Also your link doesn't appear to work Wing.

Yes fear and dragon fear are not always the same thing with mods... as for "the equalizer" sword I did post it a couple of pages back if you want to give it a try... another option is to dw the "Crom Faeyr" in the off hand and whatever floots your boat as a main.
