We only need notice that the spells have gone up so I'd add a line of text the effect "spell set 1, 2 etc"... with the sets (eg, set 1 = 'time stop, blur') in your readme someplace rather than redo every ApplySpellRES?

p.s. Love your work mate!

I have a recurrent problem with the Mellicamp quest.

If he dies, everything goes as one would expect, but if he lives, the game crashes.

Now that I know a bit more about Near Infinity, I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to fix it.

Presumably there is a missing line as in the BG2 bug that between us we got sorted.

I have no idea wise - if this had happened to me, I'd be re-installing, perhaps with 1 or more less mods...

I think that uninstalling a couple of mods is what caused the problem.

It's not a major problem. I can just forget about that quest. However, if someone knew what needed changing without having to spend hours on it, I would have done it.

Hi guys, I was just playing Bruin my cleric after a short break and making good progress in the druid grove when sudden death on the myconoid bridge.

Do they have an instant death ability? My cleric had all the cleric buffs, so chaotic commands, fear immunity, death effect immunity, the works. He wasn't in melee, but was at a medium distance from the spores with full health. It was also a bit weird that everything except the background went away (ui, creatures) and then after a 2 sec pause the death screen.

We need more info - EE, BGT, Vanilla? What? Any relevant mods? As far as I know, the only ranged attack is their confusion ability, but your CC should have protected against that. Hopefully this isn't one of those unexplained EE deaths again...

@RealMuzzy, sounds like a bug to me. All the shrooms do is try to confuse characters from a distance (must be the psilocybin), and melee-attack. Annoying situation. I'd be ok with a reload (if you don't mind reloading yourself).

Yeah, I'm thinking about it.

I can't replicate it right now but I had another char die there under mysterious circumstances. I chalked it up to her getting multiple crit at the same time since she was in melee (although with ~90 hp and myconoids hitting for ~15 that's incredibly improbable) but now I think she and Bruin encountered the same problem.

This sounds similar to something that happened to Jabberwock. Does this look/sound familiar?

We concluded that this was a bug, and encouraged him to continue playing.

If you've experienced the same, then you should feel free to resume.

Best,

A.

Hi all,

I have a little announcement to make. This may be sad news to some, but I don't really see it that way.

The personal/family/legal issues that have kept me in my home country for the past year have finally reached a point of resolution. I'll be resuming my travels soon and, consequently, won't be playing Baldur's Gate. I'll probably be gone for about a year or so, although I may drop by the forum from time to time to see how everyone is doing.

I expect to finish Alikae's BG1 run within the next couple weeks or so. I don't intend to import her to BG2, nor do I intend to start a new run- not for awhile anyways.

Anyhoo. I've had fun posting and playing over the past year or so. I hope others have enjoyed following my character's adventures- even if the coverage was a bit over-casual from time to time.

Good hunting everyone! Keep having fun!

Best,

A.

Although I'll miss your choice posts and cheerful presence, it gladdens me you'll be traveling again soon Alesia. (I'd probably do the same thing and, who knows, might return to traveling myself at some point.) Hopefully your home affairs have been settled in a satisfactory way.

I'll wait with goodbyes until you're really leaving.

It IS possible to combine both travel AND playing BG. When we went to Nepal for 3 years, I was not only able to play BG, but post on this forum as well. :) The undeveloped countries are a lot more developed nowadays. :) The first time that we lived in Nepal in the 80s, we had to go to the capital to make a phone call! When my daughter went trekking recently, she sent e-mails from half-way up Annapurna. (Where I'll be in a few weeks. :) ) I hope that you enjoy your travels and that they live up to your hopes and expectations. Unless something sad happens, this could be the end of my travelling for some time as my wife isn't as fond of Nepal as I am.

I agree, generally. It depends on the circumstances though.

I'm going to be thru-hiking half of the time, and bouncing around South America, staying mostly at eco yoga villages, the other half. Carrying a computer is out of the questions while thru-hiking. Playing BG simply would't fit at the eco yoga villages, even if some of them will have wi-fi. I'll be leaving my computer at home. I spent 2013/2014 the same way. I didn't bring my computer that time and I had no doubt that it was the right call.

Anyhoo. Thanks for the well wishes. I will be around for at least a couple weeks.

Best,

A.

A sensible choice considering the circumstances.

Anyway, I'd like to wish you safe travels wherever you happen to be. And in case there would not be a another opportunity - thanks for sharing entertaining and inspirational content herein.

Thru-hiking is tough. I've only done it once and that was only for two weeks. (Cleveland Way) Cleveland England that is. :)  If I hadn't done it solo, it might have been better as the weight you have to carry is less.

Nowadays for long walks, I do trekking in the Himalayas. beautiful, and plenty of tea shops and very basic hotels.

In my late sixties, I'm not up to back-packing hikes. I even use porters.

My two dualled berserkers are getting injured more than I would have expected and then I noticed that their AC is much lower than similar NPCs, so I wondered if something had gone wrong.

Details below. Could someone who knows let me know if it is more or less correct?

It's fine if they are correct, but if not, I will correct them.

Edit:

Moved items so that they had no effect.

The weird thing is that Weisskopf has one more fighter level than Aethelthryth, and yet has the poorer AC. That could of course be correct because of Aethelthryth being a Cleric rather than a mage.

base AC = 10, allowing for dex that should give them both a 6 but I see she has a ring (earth perhaps?) and assume thats where the extra point comes from...

Does he have a human build or is there a mod for the tiefling... ie a race debuff, or a range weapon... otherwise he should be 6 not 10 but it looks to me like he isn't getting a dex buff... you can test this by debuffing his dex below 10 and see how his armour score reacts to it.

Tiefling gives +1 Dex, +1 Int, -1 Cha, -10% Experience, +25% cold, fire, and electrical resistance.

The 20 Dex came from 18, +1 from being Tiefling, +1 from Tome.

Had +1 Str and Con from Tomes. +1 Intelligence from tome, +1 from potion.

The ring gave 1 AC bonus. Aethelthryth has AC of 6 without bonuses etc. She had a +1 wisdom and charisma boost, -10% experience, +25% cold, fire, and electrical resistance.

So Aethelthryth's AC is correct, but Weisskopf's isn't.

I thought that it was incorrect. Possibly due to buffs or removal of items prior to export,

Perhaps I should have removed items and slept before exporting him.

Reduced Dex to 9 and AC remained at 10!!! Looks like you are right. I will see what happens when I bump it up again in Shadowkeeper.

EDIT

Hurray, it is now 6 as it should be. :) Thanks a lot.

I normally just take the game as it comes, good or bad, but this was so far from the norm that it was definitely noticeable.

(This is a continuation of a discussion started in the BG2 no-reload thread.)

Yes: Beta fixes nudges Secret Word upto L5, allowing it to take down GoI.

I don't use the beta fixes component, however, I sympathize with the adjustment to Secret Word. It's not a fix, to my mind, but it is a desirable tweak.

I don't have a strong opinion about what the Secret Word/GoI interaction should be, although the rest of your post seems to me to be a reasonable argument that Secret Word should beat GoI. I was just objecting to it being called a fix. The description of Secret Word specifically excludes GoI from the list of spell protections it takes down and this matches the in-game behavior. How can changing that be considered a fix? (Secret Word's description also excludes Minor Spell Deflection, but there is no reason to think that it shouldn't take down MSD.)

I suspect whoever made the change was comparing it to the Spell Thrust/Minor Globe of Invulnerability interaction. MGoI is a level 4 spell protection that says it blocks level 3 spells and Spell Thrust is a level 3 spell that says it takes down level 4 spell protections. Which should win? The vanilla behavior, which is consistent with the spell descriptions, is that Spell Thrust beats MGoI. So I can see the desire to make Secret Word/GoI logically consistent with this, but again, their descriptions are consistent with their original behavior.

Incidentally, the change also causes Secret Word to be capable of affecting SCS liches.

---

Apologies if I've kept anyone waiting for the tweaks I mentioned a couple weeks ago, but I haven't had much time recently to test them in a real game. I'm hoping I will over the next few days, though, so I should have an update soon.

I was just objecting to it being called a fix.

I'm with you on that. I'd like to see it in the "Optional But Cool" category, like Free Action Protects Against Stun.

The description of Secret Word specifically excludes GoI from the list of spell protections it takes down and this matches the in-game behavior. How can changing that be considered a fix? (Secret Word's description also excludes Minor Spell Deflection, but there is no reason to think that it shouldn't take down MSD.)

The absence of MSD could be taken to imply that the description was incomplete. That opens the the door to consideration of whether the omission of GoI was an additional oversight. That part of the argument is sound, to my mind.

But where an omission on the description is merely a possibility, and the behavior is consistent with the description, one would need additional information to render a judgement. In the absence of additional information, leaving the mechanic unchanged would be the most sensible move, in my opinion. The Fixpack's should not change things simply because a mechanic is questionable. A higher evidentiary standard should be used: preponderance of evidence, at the least.

I agree that the Spell Thrust/MGoI interaction isn't sufficient justification.

Incidentally, the change also causes Secret Word to be capable of affecting SCS liches.

That's not surprising, given the approach David took to the Breach/L5 immunity interaction.

Presumably SCS will patch that if and when the change makes it into the Fixpack proper.

Best,

A.

Hey everyone,

I've recently rolled a bounty hunter and it seems that her special traps cause Otiluke's Resilient Sphere even at level 1. I did test this repeatedly on higher levels and can report that the problem stays there.

Untitled_zpsp0trskqa.jpg

Have you even encountered a similar issue? Do you have any ideas what might be the cause?

Cheers,

B.
