Seriously nobody ever closes their eyes. Even when they're dead.

Really this is what we are reduced to complaining about?

I tease

Oh well its better than the days of people saying Balance changes and the RNG store would see this game die within 4 months.

And don't you dare

 Liked. BTW, who's x?

When I wrote it, my intention was to say bring back challenges, but given I have absolutely no power over that, I decided against it

Can't you just ask Eric Fagnan to buff your powers?

I could, but that would do absolutely no good. (for multiple reasons)

Idk if you're allowed to answer this but why was slam never used in the game? Just run out of time or no good place to put it.... Or gasp! Both?

I suppose that makes sense, since Lift Grenade does literally the same thing as slam. I remember trying it out and it wasn't a fast enough killer compared to something like throw. Now I'm curious about other "missing things"... any idea what the supply drop objective was supposed to be? "Supply Drop In Play! Supply Drop on the field! Stock up and reload!" Was that supposed to like replace ammo boxes or something?

Super super early iteration where you would get consumables by rushing to an area of the map, wasn't that fun

Long list of questions that I (and others) have always wondered:

  • BF3 Infiltrator - Has Cloak, Sticky Grenade, and Incinerate - not in the game (or unlockable at least, since the kit list is on the server coalesced). Too many BF3/non ME3 references, just another "generic" character, or maybe something else keeping them from in the game?
  • There are 6 unreleased maps in Retaliation (really early stage maps - what appears to be a subway, a foundry, a spaceport or something, among others), as well as a nearly complete map on Thessia in Rebellion that just doesn't spawn anything... Any chance we could get some insight into what those were? I assumed since collectors came in retaliation, and most of the maps were just like AI testing and pathfinding, but it wouldn't make sense since some maps had things like barrier generators in them. They looked interesting, I would have loved to see the spaceport one (MPTest). It'd be sweet to have a ship fly in and have you escort a drone off of it for an objective.
  • Prothean Artifact Objective in the original game (or at least, in patch 2). I kind of understand why you rewrote it for the pizza objective, since its just... better, consistent place to go, you can drop it (and no super long pickup), any knowledge of that?
  • I'm sure there are more, but I can't recall them through all my notes and massive Mass Effect 3 folder.

Cant remember why BF3 Infil was dropped to be honest

Very well could be test maps, given I didnt work on the DLC I am not sure, or it could have been people making them and it got turfed and they moved onto Citadel or something, no real idea. I was against introducing more maps actually, because when the game started to decrease in scope it made finding a particular type harder. Because 4 difficulties, 3 races, and however maps that becomes a very large number of variations.

Honestly dont remember that objective

You mean searching for a specific map/enemy/difficulty combo became harder as more maps came? (Maybe that's why Reckoning didn't have the hazard maps of the others...! Or just EoL for a game)

Looking at one of my notes:

  • MPConflict, Firebase Rail, Firebase Jungle didn't seem to make hte cut. MPRail appears in retaliation, and Jungle I assume is Jade. Conflict always showed pictures of glacier, but glacier has a different map ID. Were there more maps internally at launch? I'm pretty sure Moon/Geth (condor/hydra) were moved to DLC because they just weren't done in time given they have pictures in the original game.  (We all know about Firebase Echo... we weep for it every night)
  • Also a mention of Firebase Trinity - that's all I got for that really.
  • HammerHead rounds - I know you aren't in DLC, but they were at least thought of in Retaliation - I assume adding more force to a weapon was kind of... pointless? Since guns can't knock enemies down. From the game: "Apply level <CUSTOM1> hammerhead rounds for one mission to increase your ammunition's force of impact."
  • Polonium Rounds - my sweet green baby - Any idea why those didn't make it even though they were fully completed? Another retaliation question for you...
  • Sorry about all the retaliation questions, you put lots of juicy extras in, such as literally references to killer bees about contamination.
<String id="766446">Warning: Lab contaminated. Lockdown procedures in effect.</String>
            <String id="766447">Warning: Lab integrity has been compromised.</String>
            <String id="766448">Warning: Contamination detected. Initiate immediate evacuation.</String>
            <String id="766449">Attention: Lab integrity has been restored.</String>
            <String id="766450">Attention: Contamination has been cleared.</String>
Pretty much sounds like Hazard Reactor.

  • It seems you had (or, someone) had thought of having the shuttle having to be defended (in your patch1 MP DLC):
    <String id="632402">CRITICAL MISSION FAILURE
    Evac shuttle has been destroyed</String>
    That would have been awesome.

There was some maps that were prototyped out to test the DLC system and were never intended to be finished for the game. I mean if you are going to properly test DLC, doesnt it make sense to at least have something representative? As for some of them, it very well could be that they were prototyped out by each designer and then they all decided which ones to go with. I wasnt really involved so cant say for certain.

I believe hammerhead were more or less a prototype that never worked right

Polonium were broken, far too OP. IIRC them with a PPR just made things stupid easy. So they were cut.

I cant really comment on the rest because I was busy working on the Challenge system

You were on the challenge system? Well then I have one right up your alley =)

On your server where you store the banners (the .dds file, I think), you have one for a Geth Prime banner (I guessed the URL for it). It's one of the ones we saw in the leaked Reckoning banner list, where a couple made it, but some didn't (salarian mastery etc). Any reason why those didn't make it? According to some modders on ME3Explorer forums there's also some text related to it in your livetlk file(s), maybe just ran out of time or something. I know lots of people wonder where those banners went, any enlightenment?

Thanks for sating our hunger for trivia :D

Short answer to this one, youve seen how much space in the configs challenges take up. Having that much data download from the server each time you enter MP, do you think everyones connection would be able to do it before hitting timeout connections? (I came up with half the names of those challenges, I really wanted to see Callibrator live)

(I also came up with lodestar, so you can blame me for the missing insanity)

Yeah, its huge, like thousands of lines. You pretty much seem to have implemented a database system in XML with point criteria (kills, extractions, etc), progress, required progresses, unlock banners... I tried figuring out how it works so I could add one to maybe unlock a geth prime one, but it was a bit too far over my head. I imagine it's possible still.

I'm a bit curious on other aspects - the flycam. I don't know if this was your marketing department doing this, but I noticed when you get in a sync animation, and then turn on the flycam, the controls (at least on KB/M) seem to change and drive you mad trying to line stuff up. Did you ever have to deal with this? Or did you enjoy the luxurious 2-analog-stick flycam (the one thing I have to credit consoles for is camera management in a 3D plane with a controller)

I honestly dont know, since flycam is generally a debug tool if there is problems with it they arent very prioritized (and at that point we have stuff like god mode and turn off enemies)

@Brian

I just have one question; what's the idea behind the Condor and Platinum difficulty ammo box situation?

Brian doesnt typically come to the forums these days but ill try and field this one.

But basically they are inconsistent, and I have suspicions why but never looked.

It's like a trip down memory lane looking at all my modding notes trying to find questions. So many things I didn't understand in 2013. And my ancient software! Wow. It looks so old. And really ugly too.

Edit: I see you have a server named skynet at bioware. Nice touch.

Internal tool, was created during DAO

Edit2: A question I (and many others) have... why do so many screenshots from when the game launched have enemies with different guns? Troopers with shotguns, nemesis with talon (lol)... Were those shots just taken early in development? It always bugs me to see the cerberus banner with them having the wrong gun. Yet for some reason its my current banner.

Art and Marketing, may not notice, like I dont

Okay, last one for now (or a few minutes). Chakram Launcher, why not officially in MP? It's a pretty rocking gun, surprisingly well balanced. It's no harrier but it's pretty good.

(also when did you decide to put in collectors? Was this on the table before launch or after the BSN explosion of collectors threads?)

I believe because of replication

How do you justify the fact that Cerberus can accurately shoot at us through their smokes/any enemy can do that on Dagger Hazard?
