I'm actually new to games, so DAI was the first game I played (ever). Meeting characters like Morrighan made me sometimes feel like I might have gotten a bit more if I'd played the other games... but then before playing DAI I'd heavily digested the wiki so I knew a lot about the world and that really helped.
So no, never really felt that I'd missed out on anything major. I've had so much fun playing DAI - I even went and bought ME3 straight after. So I'm pretty new to the bioware party but loving it
