With The Descent getting mixed reviews I thought it would be interesting to see how the DLC are ranked by BSNers. What is the best and worst of DA DLC according the fan opinion? Here's mine.

Dragon Age: Awakening (I know it's not a DLC, but I'm going to stick it in first place anyway)
Stone Prisoner (Shale)
Legacy (DA2 is kind of a hodgepodge of missions anyway, so this fits fairly well, resolves the issues at hand and leaves you w/ a question)
Jaws of Hakkon (It is the same old same old, but better, tighter)
Return to Ostagar (The DLC that took forever to make or implement or something. I liked it, just wish it was longer)
Leliana's Song (good story and I like Leliana. YMMV)
Witch Hunt (If it wasn't for Morrigan, this would be much, much lower on the list)
The Descent (I really want to like this DLC better than I do. Return to the Deep Roads, MMO style side quests nixed, cutscenes, tough combat, but the story is too cryptic and doesn't seem to fit the game very well)
Warden's Keep (If this DLC had been about three times as long, it would be a lot higher on the list)
Mark of the Assassin (Hawke guest stars in her own DLC)
The Exiled Prince (Sebastian added some good content)
The Golems of Amgarrak (The Warden returns and I'm not really sure what happened after that)
The Darkspawn Chronicles (sigh)

DA:A

Legacy

JoH

Leliana's song

Descent

Return to ostagar

Golems

Wardens keep

Stone prisoner

Mark of the assassin

Witch hunt (30 seconds of Morrigan didn't help it enough)

Darkspawn chronicles

Mark of the assassin plot was thin, some of the lengths of the DLC was disappointing (Shale's DLC was so quick) , or just the content was too easy to get through (Warden's keep)

I'm kind of surprised people are ranking Awakenings first. For me, it's in last place with darkspawn chronicles and Golems

Jaws of Hakkon
Legacy
Mark
Stone Prisoner
Exiled Prince
Leliana's Song
Warden's Keep/Witch Hunt
Return to Ostagar
everything else except Descent which I haven't finished.

Why is it last place? Huge campaign which gave you insight into yet another ancient magister. You got to play with your Warden more....I thought it was great.

I noticed you pretty much ranked all DA:O stuff in last

Furthermore, why does everyone hate on Golems? I thought it was interesting to see what Dwarves were messing with out in the deep roads.

I bought the disk of Awakening so I never consider it as a DLC ;)

Excluding things like Spoilers of XXX or Warrior Pack, also excluding Day-one DLCs, my list is:

Jaws of Hakkon - beautyful view, rich exploration, well organized pace.

Mark of the Assassin - fun, Tallis, tough bosses.

Legacy - Hawke's family, tough bosses.

The Descent - environmental narrative, wealth.

The Golems of Amgarrak - interesting puzzle, tough bosses.

Leliana's Song - cinematics.

Witch Hunt - Morrigan.

Return to Ostagar - meh.

The Darkspawn Chronicles - meh.

From best to worst?

1. Legacy - Hand's down the best Dragon Age DLC, easily rivalling the writing, pacing, story and overall quality of the best Mass Effect DLCs - world changing new lore, excellent dialogues, great environments, improvements to combat over the base game...

"The City! It was supposed to be golden! It was supposed to be ours!" line, is worth the price of admission alone.

2. Jaws of Hakkon - Interesting new lore and characters, quite fun quests, some challenging fights and overall good story in a beautiful location, If all locations in base game were so well crafted and populated, Inquisition would be truly magnificent.

3. Mark of the Assassin - Challenging combat (that damn wivern...), fun new characters and I like Tallis. Well told story too.

4. Golems of Amgarrak - I like how creepy that area is, and some of the fights are truly difficult. It's short, but enjoyable.

5. The Exiled Prince - New companion is always nice, and Sebastian comes with two interesting quests included. It's lower because he was a day one DLC, and that crap is not cool.

6. Awakening - This would be a lot lower, if not for the amount of content, which makes it hard to compare with those 2-4 hour long stories. But Awakening is by far the worst standalone game BioWare has ever created (I didn't play Jade Empire, but I doubt it's worse) - boring companions (they brought back literally the least interesting guy from the original game, and new people are terrible, maybe apart from Anders), story feels like a poor man's Origins (standard: go to these 3 places, except nothing interesting happens in them this time!) - The Architect is the only redeeming factor of this game.

7. Leliana's Song - Fun Origin story for Leliana. Not much else to say.

8. Witch Hunt - Would be higher, if not for the fact, that all areas are recycled from Origins and Awakening, and it's just too short. But Morrigan's in it - at least at the end.

9. Stone Prisoner - Companions are cool, but I'm not a fan of Shale. The recruitment quest was quite cool though.

10. Warden's Keep - Too short. It has some cool gear, and Avernus, which puts it step above Ostegar.

11. Return to Ostegar - Some 'nostalgia' but not much more. Entire DLC is killing Darkspawn and hunting pieces of armor.

12. Darkspawn Chronicles - Ehh...

In general, Origins DLC are really, really bad. I got them in Ultimate Edition - I cannot imagine paying money separately for some of them.

Uhhh I'm going to try and make a list despite not having played JoH/The Descent

- Legacy - despite having only played it once - because DA2 feels bleh to me - but was lots of fun and a great cliffhanger!

- Leliana's song - Character development for one of the more interesting characters. Played only once, but again; was fun!

- Return To Ostagar - The moment I was forced to leave Ostagar I've been wanting to go back and see the devastation because I knew there would be feels. I just wish it was a bit more like the Normandy Crash site and less like... well... armor-hunting....

- Witch Hunt - Morrigan. Yes, just because Morrigan. I'm terrible, I know.

- Darkspawn Chronicles - *picks up flame shield* I actually enjoyed this DLC

- Awakening - Meh. Played through once. Forgettable story. Architect only redeeming factor.

- Warden's Keep - .... I don't even use the storage chest.... I sell fancy armors and only put the best one on my characters, I'm awful, I know.

- Shale's DLC - I bought DA:O second hand and only got her when I switched to PC 2 years later so she never really grew on me as much as others

- Sebastian's DLC - He was ok, I guess?

- Mark of the Assassin - Hey Tallis, I thought Hawke was the protagonist of this DLC but whatevs I guess.

- Golems of zzzzzzzzZZzzzzzz - I believe I never really played through this DLC legit. After the first few mobs I probably esc'd through all the dialogue and killallhostiles'd through the grind. I dont even know for sure because I remember jack all from this DLC. *yawn*

  1. Awakening: My Canon warden finished the game wearing Blood dragon which didn't transfer. Had to play a lot of the opening sequence in my undies
  2. Shale: Funny unique and full of pathos I loved Shale and the little addition she was to the world.
  3. Legacy: Remember a time when Corypheus was a powerful enigmatic enemy? Hawke remembers
  4. Witch Hunt: I was essentially suing Morrigan for custody of my god-child across time and space. Excellent.
  5. Jaws of Hakkon: I like that instead of the Tribals being insular stupid klingon knockoffs bound by their ridiculous traditions they were actually rather erudite and pragmatic. Plus the scenery was beautiful.
  6. Wardens Keep: Get in, get out, get the space-sword
  7. Return to Ostagar: Note I am only placing it this far down because by the time I got it I always remembered to get Dog. The first time I played through the game I forgot and it would've made me so happy to see him fending off darkspawn.
  8. Descent: Boring gameplay, oddly silent companions. But the environments were the very best in the entire franchise if you ask me and I'm always a **** for lore!
  9. Golems of Amgaraak: Like the Descent but without the beauty or lore expansion.
  10. Leliana's song: it just felt like a short bit of filler to me.
  11. Mark of the Assassin: Oh I get to guest star alongside nerd it-girl Felicia Day and I get to deal with Orlesians yay
  12. Sebastian: The man intensely bores me.
  13. Darkspawn Chronicles: Soooo depressing
  14. Miscellaneous Item DLCs, except Blood Dragon Armour: Half of them are a let down visually the rest just aren't very good stats wise
  15. Blood Dragon Armour: I had to do the first part of Awakening in my mother ****** pants!

Sebastian's DLC is dead last on any list in my mind.  He is the companion character I hate more than any companion character ever.  We all know how I feel about him and his giant over-compensatory belt buckle.  Lame overly moralistic personality and super lame romance arc.  Sebastian Vael can suck it.  And I mean that in the nicest possible way.  I cannot comment on the Descent yet since I've not purchased it, but I enjoyed Awakenings and Legacy the most.  I also like that Hawke gets reunited with Bethany in Legacy (sisters for life!).  I like that we get fun kitten carrying Anders in Awakenings and not Broody McSads of DA2.  Unilke a lot of people I liked Mark of the Assassin.  I like the Jaws of Hakkon too. I have some issues with the Hakkonites being stupid hard compared to other enemies..  All the rest of the DLCs are all kind of okay.  I don't hate them.  I don't love them.

The dlcs ordered imo from best to worst.

For DAO

Shale - companion has dialogue through all the game, the quests are enjoyable and well done, fits the story the most.

Warden´s keep - Avernus/Sophia choice with interesting characters, companions talk, an extra ability, new info on darkspawn lore, also storage chest was needed.

Awakening - Predictable darkspawn plot, many new characters some are quite interesting, continuation of story. No romances, full of bugs that were never fixed.

Witch Hunt - dlc for morrigan-mancers, it gives closure for them. For everyone else just add some bits of lore, revisit areas, fight a new monster, and see Morrigan get away no matter what. Not my top dlc, specially after how hyped it was.

Return to Ostagar - Weak plot, nice ostagar scenery and bosses, cool weapons, closure with Cailan, excellent Loghain banter. More like a weapon pack with some story tacked on.

Golems of Amgarrak - Dungeon crawl, new mechanics and monsters to fight, the plot is weak but some lore bits are cool. No companions, warden goes all alone.

Darkspawn chronicles - Alternate universe slaughterfest, worth it for the fun factor of seeing what crappy choices Alistair made. Not worth replaying.

Leliana´s song - Boring story that Leliana already told you, does not affect the main game. The side-characters are bad, i liked the story better in my imagination.

For DA2

Legacy - good excuse to get out of Kirkwall, a lot of party banter, sibling interactions which was sorely needed, great final boss and new lore, interesting side characters too.

Sebastian - One of my favourite characters, and one the few sane LIs in DA2. His side quests are uninteresting and average, more of the same DA2 filler. His banter and convesations through the game however is good and add new perspectives to events, pretty much like Shale in DAO. Particularly worth it for female hawke LI.

Mark of the Assassin - plot only makes sense on act1, other acts is questionable. wyvern hunt provides variation from kirkwall, lots of party banter, lore bits, funny lines - in general is a light hearted dlc. Tallis gets more obnoxius as the dlc progresses, she becomes the protagonist and hawke the sidekick.

I cannot talk about the DAI dlcs because i haven´t played them yet, only watched a walkthrough to see the story content. Overall i don´t feel their price is justified, so i´m waiting for a price drop or that bioware somehow impresses me with further dlc, then i would be willing to buy these as a show of support.

I don´t know why, i am just not invested enough in DAI to justify spending more money on it. Here´s to bioware putting out something to change my mind.

I found Awakenings to be badly paced. There were only two companions I cared about, and neither was Oghren. :)

There were several plot threads that came to an abrupt end for my taste like the conspiracy plot.

Click on things to get conversation rather than just talking to them.

And the less said about the Architect and the Mother the better. The former had the threat of wet tissus paper and that latter was just annoying.

I'd rank them as the following (I do not count Awakening, it doesn't fit)

Return to Ostagar - I took Alistair and Wynne with me the first time, and the banter was definitely very good between them. I admit that taking anyone else makes it forgettable, but those two brought it home.

Leliana's Song - It was nice to hear Leliana's story, and I loved the banter between the three party members. Mother Dorothea was the cherry on top, and Lord Raleigh was infinitely hatable.

Legacy - Legacy had a gripping storyline, fun areas to fight through, and the boss fight to end all boss fights. But more than that, it improved so much on what DA2 had wrong with it, and made me realize that DA2, for all it's flaws, still had great plotlines and memorable characters.

The Descent - This was Legacy on a lesser scale: It was a lot of fun, I liked the fights and the environment, and I learned new things. But I lacked a connection to Valta unlike I did with Bethany/Carver in Legacy, and by the end, it got a bit muddled.

Witch Hunt - I never found Morrigan all that gripping, but Ariane and Finn more than made up for it, the locations were fun, and one who romanced Morrigan got a satisfying conclusion.

Jaws of Hakkon - It was open world and a bit too free form, but fighting Hakkon was fun (if not too innovative), learning more about the Avvar was pretty cool, and the location was gorgeous.

Warden's Keep - It's short and sweet, never feels old. But I don't feel like the journey took me anywhere. There's nothing wrong with it, but it feels too much like DLC, like it could be removed from the series at large, unlike the other ones with characters or concepts that transcended games.

Mark of the Assassin - The banter was hilarious, the wyverns were cool, and it hit on so many cylinders. But Tallis drug it down so much with her Mary Sue qualities.

Golems of Amgarrak - I actually am fond of Jerrik Dace (and even Brogan), and it was very creepy. But I disliked the reused map from Awakening and the very detached feel of the DLC.

The Exiled Prince - Sebastian integrated seamlessly into the game, which was nice. But his personal quest felt detached, I wanted to actually see more. So much of it happened off-screen.

Stone Prisoner - Shale is a terribly boring character, that puzzle was annoying, and about the only thing I liked was the proof that cats are inherently evil.

Darkspawn Chronicles - I played it once to get the poisoned blade. Then I never played it again.

Hmmm. I guess I've never really been too overwhelmed with any of them (which is why I find people's expectations and disappointment around them a bit durprising), at least in comparison the the main game. Most of what I did like about a lot of the DLCS was the shiny new armor and weapons. But based on the actual content...

1. Stone Prisoner
2. Jaws of Hakkon
3. Return to Ostagar
4. Everything else

I haven't played yet JOH (will try one day but not that interested with another mmo-like zone to explore) and The Descent (the focus on combat and lack of companion interactions got me from "downloading it now, let's do this!" to "eh, i still have a playthrough of Game of Thrones to finish and a trooper to get ready for KotFE, i'll do it later") so it's all going to be about DAO/DAII DLC:

1. Dragon Age Awakening: while certain aspects lacked in development, the story was great. Plus we got to meet the architect, Anders, Justice and Sigrun.

2. The Stone Prisoner: It has Shale. That's enough for me.

3. Legacy: Great story with good replayability and a good amount of interactions with your companions.

4. Mark of The Assassin: Fun, fast-paced, but Talis was a bit over the top and the stealth part didn't work that well, which is such a bummer. It's nice to see options to do quests without having to fight through it everytime.

5. Return to Ostagar: the emotional comeback to Ostagar would have been much higher if it didn't feel so rushed sometimes. Plus it's totally bugged and I've only been able to do it twice on my 10 playthroughs of DAO.

5. Witch Hunt: the dlc is kind of forgettable but the chance to meet with Morrigan once more and get some closure/answers is something I really wanted.

6. Warden's Keep: Story is good but lacking in execution, plus it doesn't feel tied to the main story and there's very few companions interactions.

7. The Exiled Prince: Good because it added a companion, but compared to shale, the whole thing was underwhelming.

8. Leliana's Song: I never liked Leliana.

Jaws of Hakkon, The Descent, The Golems of Amgarrak, The Darkspawn Chronicles didn't add anything to the story and way too overpriced for the amount of content they have. DA2 DLC were better than DAO/DAI.

I can't do any elaborate sequence. Instead, I'll put the DLC/Expansion packs into three groups: very ejoyable, ok and unsatisfying, excluding item packs.

Very enjoyable:
(1) DAI: Jaws of Hakkon
(2) DA2: Legacy
(3) DAO: Awakening
(4) DAO: Stone Prisoner (more for the companion herself rather than the quests related to her)

OK: Not really impressive but would play again.
(1) DAI: The Descent
(2) DA2: Mark of the Assassin
(3) DA2: Exiled Prince
(4) DAO: Return to Ostagar
(5) DAO: Witch Hunt
(6) DAO: Lelianas Song
(7) DAO: Warden's Keep

Unsatisfying:
(1) DAO: Darkspawn Chronicles
(2) DAO: Golems of Amgarrak

Legacy - good amounts of lore, intrigue, get too see Carver progress character-wise and sibling bonding, cliff-hanger-y

Stone Prisoner - Shale is definitely my favorite companion in DA:O. I mean, who actually causes the pigeon population to take a nosedive?

Witch Hunt - Finn and Arianne were interesting characters and got closure with Morrigan

Jaws of Hakkon - beautiful scenery, interesting storyline, learn about your predecessor

Awakening - liked the characters and story but there were times that simply going through everything was taking too long

Warden's Keep - get a keep you never get to use and learn more about what happened to Grey Wardens... and Avernus!

Mark of the Assassin - fun and light hearted... didn't like there wasn't really an option to kill Tallis....

Exiled Prince - Sebastian is an interesting character, but one I never really got invested into

Return to Ostagar - liked the nostalgia... and banter with Alistair and Wynne

Lelianna's Song - interesting back story

Descent - nice maps... content felt verrrrrrry lackng

golesms of amagarrak/darkspawn chronicles
