Hi everyone,

This is a tutorial for those who have had headaches linking your accounts in order to access Mass Effect 2 downloadable content.

============================

Step One:

Your bioware social account and your EA account are NOT the same thing!  The EA account is a master account that goes across all EA games, similar to an ubi account.  Anytime you make a purchase, want DLC, or will do anything involving an EA game.  This account is the one you go to for EVERYTHING!

profile.ea.com/login.do

Your account must be linked to an XBOX-LIVE account, so that means that EA and XBOX Live must be linked together.

Step Two:

The most RELIABLE way to link your accounts is to go into your Mass Effect 2 game.  When the game asks you for the Cereberes Network Card information, signing in through your ME2 game assures you with 100% accuracy that you will link to the proper account.  Enter your Cerberes Redemption code and link your account via your e-mail.

Example:
(youremail)@hotmail.com

Make sure that this e-mail address is the same one as your EA account!  Do not put your bioware e-mail, do not put your family e-mail, put the e-mail that is linked to your EA account ONLY!  It is not recommended to share an e-mail address with other users, the reasons are self explanatory.

Step Three:

Once you have linked your Xbox Live account to your EA account, you can go on your PC terminal and access your bioware social page.  Log in with your EA account and you will see that the webpage will display (youremail)@hotmail.com linked to Mass Effect 2.

With the confirmation that your account is linked you can now proceed to enter your redeem codes for Terminus Armor, Collector's Armor, Inferno armor and so on.

Step Four:

Upon going back into your Mass Effect 2 game you will see that the downloadable content button may flash briefly and when you go into extras you will see the new content you activated.  You can now download the content to your Xbox 360.  HOWEVER!  Please note you may need to restart Mass Effect 2 or will have to play in-game for a few minutes in order for the content to be recognized.  Sometimes it's immediate, and sometimes it lags a little bit, just be patient.

Step Five:

If your code does not work, then you must contact EA technical support, but be glad it wasn't due to your error that it didn't work.

============================

DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING:

1.) It is not recommended to redeem your codes before booting up Mass Effect 2.  If something goes wrong with the linking of your account through Mass Effect 2, you will lose those codes forever.

2.) Do not put your bioware e-mail, your ubisoft email, your Xboxlive email, your whatever e-mail.  Only put the e-mail address that is linked to the EA account.  This account could have been made years ago when Earth & Beyond was considered a new game.  Your account will last for a LONG TIME!

3.) If the e-mail of your xbox live is separate from your EA account, DO NOT PUT THE XBOX LIVE ACCOUNT!  EA ONLY!  I cannot emphasize this enough.

I hope this will help any future consumers in preventing a massive headache and phone call to tech support.  These rules may also apply to the PC version of the game, everything is controlled by the master EA account.
================================================

ADDITIONAL INFO ON LINKING YOUR GAMERTAG TO AN EA ACCOUNT:

Additional links I've looked up for gamertags and EA accounts:

forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/600/366188.page#3582699

www.achieve360points.com/forums/showthread.php

Go to this website to log into your EA account and find out which gamertag is linked to your EA account.

profile.ea.com/login.do

Once you do that, next to the login button click on the Welcome (Yourname) and click on My Account.

Look
under game personas and see if any of the accounts there are linked to
your XBOX LIVE GAMERTAG.  If your gamertag is not there it is not
linked.

Go to this link to try to link your XBL gamertag to your profile:

account.ea.com/reg/xbl/gamertag-howto.jsp

Hopefully this will help.

===================================

Recovering potentially lost DLC (Only applies to people who created a new account without realizing it)

Thanks to TheLambofDeth, here is a solution.  -Posted by Vasilii Zaytsev

Here's what happend to me and how I was able to fix it.

I registered on EA/Bioware's site with my current email and
redeemed all of my codes. I was unable to link my Gamertag to my new
account because I already linked it to an email I don't have anymore.

It looked like I just screwed my self out of all my DLC. But there's a way to get around it!

Create a new Live account (Silver is fine) and when you login use
the EA account you redeemed your DLC with. You can use DLC on any
profile so just dl and then use your normal profile.

I see a lot of others the same problem I did so I hope this helps.

1. Create a new gamertag

2. Link it to the EA account that has the DLC

3. Log into the new gamertag and download everything

4. Sign out of the gamertag

5. Sign into our original gamertag

6. Load up ME2 where all the DLC should be

Thanks for explaining this. We shouldn't have to do all this (in fact it's pretty much bull****), but I appreciate someone taking the time to lay it all out. Why we all have to spend an hour dicking around just to play something we paid $60 or $70 (ce) for is beyond reason. Guess I'm just a fan of Bioware. Not so much EA.

Additional Information:

If you bought the game brand new and NEVER used the code and it says "Code in Use" It is possible that your code could have been stolen by an employee of whoever sold you your disc. Or a printing error was made and a duplicate code was created. Either way, you will need to contact tech support if this is the case.

First of all. Thanks for this tutorial.

But i've a question: Is there a possibility to use my ea-account with two separte gamertags? (My gf's account we share the same xbox 360 and bought the game together but have different gamertags)

You can use the account if you have two separate gamertags, ONLY if you share your EA account with her.

I had a guy named Nathaniel link my GT with my current EA acct. months ago. My email address for EA and this site are the same. I loaded ME2 and looked carefully for any place to put the free codes but the Cerberus Network obviously won't unlock till you put the free code in so that was not an option. I understood going in, that DA only gave auth. codes properly to promo codes input in-game, so I tried. This was not possible with ME2.

End result, I followed instructions on the Cerberus Net. card etc. to put the codes in on the dl redeem code screen that Chris P also directed us to. The screen showed the proper email and EA/BW acct. My registered promo screen shows them but they don't come through. The laptop on the right in the start screen that is supposed to open with CN activation never does. The only option I have there is to buy CN for another $15.

I really think there is an issue with anyone who has a different email for xbox live. That email can not be changed. My xbl profile email for billing contact and communication is the same as BW and EA but that makes no difference. The ME server asks me for my guardian's email of all things and won't connect anyway. Talk about adding insult to injury.

I'm going to have to email care again with all the codes for the free ME2 promos to have them put on this acct. manually. Nathaniel had to do that for my DA promos after he moved my GT from a deleted EA acct. I feel bad for them, there must be thousands of requests for GT linkage alone but even that guarantees nothing. Give them all your codes for ME2 and DA or the content may never come through.

Maybe a direct xbl dl option would have been a good idea.

so i did all this, my ea account has the right email, and i linked it through my xbox live, BUT when i go to the mass effect page to redeem my preorder code, it says gamertag tag - none

how do i get that to work?

If it still says none, your Xbox Live account probably is still not properly registered to your EA account. Make sure you are signed in to the right profile you're using.

I.E. EA Account: ******@e-mail.com

ME2 XBL: *******@e-mail.com

If it's not showing up yet, wait a bit and press refresh later on. Or try the steps again to make sure that your link properly connected through the internet.

Additionally, there is a way to change your XBL email address. Its not intuitive, and I can't quite remember where I found it, but one of the FAQs gave directions. In the end, this only matters for the few people who have never played an EA online game on their XBox.

I forgot to mention:

MAKE SURE YOUR XBL ACCOUNT IS NOT PREVIOUSLY LINKED TO AN OLD EA ACCOUNT!

Let's say I made a gamertag in 2004 and linked it to an EA.com account in the same year.

XBL linked to EA account 1

Fastforward 6 years and I try to link my XBL gamertag to a new EA account.

So XBL attempts to link to EA account 2.

There is a high likelyhood that this will fail! Use the ORIGINAL account that you linked your XBL gamertag to and do not create a new EA account in order to link the XBL. If you have done that step I unfortunately cannot provide any further assistance or information on fixing that problem.

I agree with this 100%.  What's worse is that once you activate the code or do something not quite right, for me I cannot link my gamertag even though it is the same email account, you are basically screwed.  I just want to play ME2 at this point but I would love to have my pre-order bonus working without having to go online, create an account, call customer service, etc.

Between this and things like the Dragon Age DLC debacle, EA is giving Bioware a really bad name.  Combine this with the locked Bad Company pre-order bonus and it is no wonder why every gamer hates EA with a passion.  They honestly only care about their bottom line and not the customer.  I hate to see a company like Bioware associated with EA but even Bungie worked with Microsoft so hopefully they will reclaim their independence soon enough.

EDIT:  I honestly have no idea what 'other' account my gamertag would be linked to and it is unreasonable to require me to know when unlocking a pre-order bonus.  I paid to play this game and unlocking the pre-order bonus in such a complicated manner is quite unreasonable.  What happens when a gamer does not have a computer?  Nowhere on the box does it say that you need a computer to play Mass Effect 2 on the 360.

Hi I followed your instructions, but I can't see on the biware social page where it says my account has been linked. But, I can see on my EA account that my Xbox live gamertag has been added, does that means it has linked proprely?

Head for EA. They have two posts http://support.ea.com that I've copied below. Looks like they will straiten it out eventually

about your gamertag link/dlc problems:

f you are having trouble locating your in-game content, you may have entitled the DLC to a different EA account than the account associated with your Gamertag. This can occur if you have previously associated your Gamertag with an EA login account ID, either directly via the EA website or indirectly through an EA game with online content, and then choose the New Account option from the Mass Effect 2 login prompt.

If you have inadvertently created a new EA account and redeemed your DLC code, it is not possible to associate that account to a Gamertag that is already associated with an EA account, and the code can not be used again once it is consumed.

If you have experienced this issue, please click the Email Us link in the left margin and contact us with:

* the username of the new EA account that you entitled DLC to

* the Gamertag you use to sign in to Xbox Live

* and the EA account that the Gamertag is associated with (if you remember it).

about your cerebus code not working:

We apologize for the inconvenience, however a limited number of the Cerberus Network cards included with the Collector's Edition were inadvertently printed with the download code for the Collector Gear rather than the Cerberus codes.

The studio is currently working on a solution that will grant Cerberus Network access to anyone who redeems the Collector's Edition code moving forward. This solution includes a script that will retraocatively grant Cerberus Network access to those who have already activated their Collector's Edition code.

Here is where my problem is. Mass Effect 2 never prompted me to create or link an account. It redeemed the code and doesn't seem to have any option to put in any kind of account information, or create and account as the card claimed.

No worries, here's a more visual example of what your screen should look like:

So when you go here
social.bioware.com/redeem/

If you're signed in the webpage SHOULD SAY:

Email Address:youremail@hotmail.com | Switch Accounts

Xbox Gamertag(s):
yourXboxlivegamertag

PSN Name(s): yourpsnname

If
it is showing up as none then it is most likely not linked to the
correct account OR you're not signed in, OR you just need to wait for
the website to refresh.

Sir Derb is this on the PC or Xbox 360?  This is very odd, try to explore the game options to see if you can link your gamertag to an EA account.  If it didn't ask you, you may have already been logged into your EA account.  Check your downloads and what not to see what's going on.

To find out if the promo codes have been applied to your profile GO TO:

social.bioware.com/user_home.php

Select

Profile>Your registered game promotions

In that tab you will see ALL of your promo items.  Collector's, Terminus, Inferno, Cerberus etc.  If it doesn't show up here it won't show up on your Xbox 360.

On the 360, online options just listed auto-login and upload to EA. Nothing about what accounts.

Check your profile and see if your stuff is registered. Also look at the website under the redeem codes and see that when you sign in your gamertag is linked to your EA.com account. If nothing is showing up there, then definitely don't put in anymore codes until you're positive it's linked.

Unfortunately, I've never had this problem when booting up Mass Effect 2. If anything you will have to contact EA tech support unfortunately. They will ask you for your gamertag and your e-mail, and they can figure out what's going on.

I think Dragon Age must have done something to cause it to skip the account step. I don't normally have the Xbox on line, a have to borrow a wireless bridge from another room to connect it, looks like when I hooked it up to get the Dragon Age content registered it put in the junk e-mail address I used to register Live way back when Halo 2 came out. Checking that e-mail reveals a 'Your new EA Master Account has been created.' e-mail from then, though I obviously haven't done anything with that and I don't have that achievement for linking anything, also Dragon Age gives me an error message about connecting with account.

But it looks like, if you registered anything through Dragon Age, make sure of what that went to, because Mass Effect 2 skips over the create/link step if you do.

Now I have to figure out how to get it unlinked from the one it made and linked to my existing EA account.

Interesting, it makes me think that the Xbox needs to be on the internet in order for it to prompt you to connect to the EA account. So if you weren't connected to the internet it would make sense that it wouldn't prompt you to put your EA account, because that can only be accessed via the internet connected 360.
