Replace the Dragonlings with Elite creatures, regularly (or just for a weekend). Giants, Druffalo, Revenants, Arcane Horrors, Great Bears, etc.

 

Imagine fighting the High Dragon, and suddenly three giants pop instead of dragonlings.

 

Fighting the High Dragon, and a Druffalo (or three) come to steamroll the party.

 

Just bring all the elite creatures out. Make the final dragon fight extremely epic with just non stop spawns of different elite enemies bwaahahahahahahah.

One of the most epic scenes in SP is when you stumble on that battle between a Dragon and a Giant on the beach. I think it would be equally epic to see three Giants crash the party in the wave 5 arena.
