What if we had a Yahg companion?

I think a Yahg companion could be interesting in that the lore says they'll only serve someone who first establishes dominance over them. You'd probably have to fight the Yahg first and make it clear who was boss. I imagine it would be sort of like Khem Val from SWTOR.

The only issue is that they'll probably be left behind in the Milky Way. The Reapers were saving them for the next cycle, and it is unlikely the Council species would have brought Yahg along given how the first and last time contact was made with the Yahg, it ended with murdered diplomats. I'd love to see a Yahg companion however if the series ever returns to the Milky Way.

Nope. Don't see a problem at all considering the level design is bound to be much more expansive this time around. Seeing as how we already fought one in a rather narrow space, they're entirely capable of having one tag along on a mission with us.

I never said there was an outcry for anything. I quoted LinksOcarina who was speaking of the Raloi (that overhyped avian species of cowards). And yes, many people have been wanting to see one since they were merely mentioned during ME3. There's also those out there that have asked for Yahg in the next game, though I wasn't speaking about them or the Yahg.

No, merely mentioning them is not my definition of established. As in a species that has actual history within the MEU. One that actually has a face. Like the Batarians.

Well, you're more optimistic than I am. I can already picture how a yahg would end up blocking the camera every ten seconds when fighting in narrow spaces. I'll pass.

And that's all well and good, but your definition of established is irrelevant compared to the actual definition of established. I don't know, maybe I just take issue with it because the entire point of the yahg's introduction was that they weren't established at all; people had been guessing at the identity of the Shadowbroker for years and Bioware decided it would be fun to subvert all the guesses by making him a member of a speices that no one knew existed - and as far as I can tell from what I've read on development - didn't exist when the concept of the Shadowbroker was first envisioned.

In any event, I'm still opposed to having one on the team. We're already getting a krogan if the leak is to be believed and they fill the niche of big bad ass warrior alien just fine, and they don't take up as much space.

Yahg have been established going on two games now. The Raloi have merely been mentioned. They are barely "established" compared to the likes of the Batarians, Vorcha or Volus.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm not advocating for a Yahg squadmate. Nor do I want a Raloi. I'm not a fan of the Yahg and I sure as hell dont get caught up in all the fuss about the Raloi.  I'd much rather have a Batarian. I was simply saying a Yahg squadmate isn't out of the question due to any sort of technical limitations. He can sit his ass in the cargo bay. If they want one in the game, they'll find a way.

I'd rather get a Falcon-punching batarian honestly. It's about time we got one  ;)

People are forgetting the important question- Is it romanceable?

They did manage to make the Iron Bull-dwarf romance scene plausible in DAI, so why not.

while having a Yagh squaddie would be awesome indeed, it would make the Krogan obsolete.

They got a brief mention in Mass Effect 3 as well, though I can't remember now where they are mentioned. I do remember that the content something to the effect of the Raloi destroying any space craft they had and retreating to their home world, hoping that the Reapers would spare them for not being spacefaring.

I thought about saying that, but ^-^ didn't want to start "OH HERE WE GO, another romance thread."

Would be interesting companion banner, Krogan vs Yahg arguments. Maybe a similar Miranda/Jack catfight?

They were during the rescuing of Bakara, on the Salarian home planet. A few even unintentionally helped kill a few Cerberus troopers.

Not if this Yahg isn't a biotic, but the krogan is. A pure soldier would ofcourse be tougher, but a biotic would have, well, biotics.

Honestly I don't see how it could be possible given what we know about their psychology. The only Yahg that could be a member of a human's team (or even a Krogan's for that matter) would be the weakest beta on planet Parnack. Even the Shadow Broker was supposed to be ridiculously intelligent and there was no controlling that temper of his. Might be cool to see more Yahg, but honestly the lot of them are mental to the degree that integrating into galactic society seems kind of unrealistic.

The yahg were visited once by the Citadel Council.

It ended badly.

The Citadel blacklisted the planet and ignored them completely (Salarians don't listen to the Council that much. Because "Science!" yet also an odd lack of intelligence). The Reapers also ignored the Yahg, who are still a pre-Spaceflight species (They are roughly at our own present level of tech, in this our real world.).

So it is highly unlikely that the Citadel would attempt to bring along a group of people they universally don't like, have no solid history with the Council save for one incident, and very few people will deal with them on even a small scale (The Shadow Broker prior to the Yahg one just had a single Yahg as a trophy, and the Salarians experimented with a small amount of them.). According to the codex entry about the Shadow Broker, it seems that very few Yahg were even interested in leaving the planet.

Ignoring the matter of actually bringing the Yahg with them (see above), then you have to account for their size and their not fitting into standard animations to save time and resources (look at how they move in comparision to the other citadel races, who all use the same animation skeleton barring the hanar and elcor.). The animation problem is more notable than the size issue, given that maps are typically made to allow for units like Geth Primes and Atlas Mechs to move about in.
----------

Raloi are in a similar case give their minimal interaction with the Council before withdrawing and hoping the Reapers would avoid them. But they have the advantage of a strange level of fan support and concrete connections with the council, the later applying to the Virtual Aliens though this race is incredibly unlikely given only a singular mention in a single game. It's likely the Virtual Aliens were destroyed by the Reapers as an afterthought as they dealt with the rest of the Milky Way peoples. . .or perhaps they flew on after being helped by the Council and eventually found their way to Andromeda? Who knows.

----------

If returning to the Milky Way ever became a thing, however, It's likely that the Yahg (and Raloi if not wiped out by the Reapers) would be the dominant force in the Milky Way and could be used as antagonists along with the Leviathans.

Of course. I want to see how their homeworld and government are like. Maybe the Yahg are ruled by their women who happen to be stronger and smarter than the men (sort of like the Yautja/Predator). Perhaps this is why the former Shadow Broker escaped from Parnack.

:P
