Interior ship design

I would make my floor a shiny black -- to the point where I can somewhat see my reflection. Really dark violet walls, lights on the bottom of the walls the shine on the floor, and ceiling lights. I would want the lighting to be brighter than the Normandy SR-1, yet dimmer than the SR-2 in Mass Effect 3. I am how many light-years from home? A little luxury is cannot hurt, right? Maybe we can purchase floor pieces at a market or something.
Anyway, how would your interior design look if you could change it?

I would love to be able to customize our ship's exterior and/or interior. Bioware says they are looking into it for the Mako, so maybe they'll look into it for the ship too.

Realistically, I only expect to be able to change various things around the ship, like adding accessories here and there, like Shepard's models or adding certain fish to the aquarium, but not the actual coloration of the ship's interior.

So, no interior ship design would mean inferior ship design?

My first hope is that the ship's interior actually looks like a ship's interior rather than an open plan office with curved walls, which doesn't lend itself to Inquisition style drape customization. That said some kind of personal expression for wherever Not-Shepard sleeps would be nice, actual choices though not just collecting things.

I have yet to see a ship or space station design that actually makes sense. Both Normandies wasted so much room with hallways and stairs, they didn't have pressure doors to seal sections in case of a hull breach and they didn't have much in the way of seats for the crew working there. The sleeping pods took up more space than regular bunk beds for twice their number, which makes them ridiculously inefficient. Almost all jobs on the ship were left to Joker, who was pilot, gunner, communication officer, sensor officer and probably scrubbed the decks, too. The interface for steering the ship was a joke, no one would ever use (floating) touchscreens for that. It was stupid in Star Trek and it's stupid here.

I've never been on a ship, but I imagine an 'actual ships' living quarters are probably on the cramped and unattractive side.

I certainly agree about the touchscreens. They irritate me in real life and I'd prefer them gone from fiction. They're used because they're an easy indicator that this technology is 'futuristic.'
I seriously think that's the reason they're so prevalent in real life. The average consumer is easily suckered into thinking they're a 'better' technology because that's what they see in Iron Man or whatever.

I have the feeling the system to alter the ship interior would be like the DA:I-System for Skyhold:
Run some sidequests, explore some planets with the mako to find the ressources/materials you need. Maybe we find some blueprints in dungeons. Then go to a special "Design your Interior"-screen in your ship, klick in the list between a few possibilities (like N7-Style, Cerberus Style, "Choose your ME-Species here-design" etc.). Then a loading screen. Then you walk around a ship where wall and floor colors changed (N7 black, white, red, Turians blue-white-red - maybe silver?, Cerberus white-yellow/orange-black etc.). You'll find that all beds in the ship look different, posters look different, the bar or kitchen or whatever looks different. Then you can slightly change some wall deco at specific points in the ship, where you can left ship models, relics or insignias from sidemissions/dlcs or books, liquor and sweets ![]()
Don't know if that will good or bad.
Sorry for my bad english. Have a nice day

Each time a game offers my character the option to change their keep, ship or house I always have to ask myself: Don't they have anything better to do? My Inquisitor was dealing with the possible end of the world or at least a dangerous demon invasion... but he goes around and puts up new drapes?

I frankly alway felt the Normandy was too small for its crew size. Literally felt like anyone not on Shepards squad just slept on the floor, One reason why I'm for the ship in Andromeda being bigger and more dreadnought like, basicially its own little hub.

I only think this sort of thing is really worthwhile if you spend a decent amount of time looking at the location in question. So in DAI, the throne customisation is fairly nice since you get a number of scenes where you're sitting there but the rest seems kind of irrelevent.
It's definitely not worthwhile if it forces an extra area transition, like you get when going into your bedroom in DAI.

They're very cramped. I took a tour of the USS North Carolina (BB-55) in Wilmington several years ago. If you happen to be near a location where you can take a tour, I would suggest it.
For the interior of the ship in Andromeda. I like to have posters of humanity first on the walls. Even have a poster of TIM. Hahaha. I like to have a game room where the crew can relax between shifts. Heck even have the main character sit down with them and play. A big mess hall. Be able to sit down and have chow with the crew. If the ship has a VI I like it to be in the shape of Harbinger. Hahaha. Even having it say ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL a couple of times. haha
For my cabin I would like to have a waterbed. A fish tank and a tank for snakes or maybe one with spiders. The bathroom has a bath tub and
not just a shower. Shelves to put any models I collect on them. A big poster of Earth.
If anything the interior of the SR2 was fine. Something like that wouldn't bother me

Yeah, some of them just lived in the cargo hold while Shep had a lavish cabin. I think a bed and a locker is the minimum each of my squad should have, ideally in a space with some privacy.
Quarians like Tali should have their own room, so they can create a sterile environment for themselves. Otherwise they'd be stuck in their suits 24/7.
This is something that bothered me a lot about the Normandy... so much wasted space and the people still had to sleep in shifts? Makes no sense.

The Normandy is a stealth ship that is not meant for front line combat. It is a small compact ship with a crew of maybe 30-ish. How many countermeasures was you expecting? I will admit, in Mass Effect 2 when the SR-1 was under attack, seeing the barriers form around the cockpit to keep it pressurized was good thinking.
The crew does not use the pods all at once. They take turns using shifts.
And I do agree that the ship's interface was kind of stupid.

It depends on the ship. I have been on ships that were cramped where I thought I was accidentally going to hit into something; while I have also been on ships where I could have a mini party of 15 or more in the cabin.

Time for Shepard to purchase more fish for his fish tank.

The SR-2 is a Frigate; I wonder how big a Cruiser would be...

The Normandy is a frigate... front line combat or not, it's a stupid design decision to have large rooms in a spaceship. You need to filter all that air to keep the oxygen levels constant... and that's no easy task if you have one huge room.
What was the purpose of the galaxy map anyway? A large screen would have worked much better than a hologram 6m in diameter. What about the hologram of the Normandy that popped up when you weren't at your station? Bloody useless. All those crew members standing around in the CIC didn't have seats or screens for their terminals.
The Normandy SR-1 had 8 stations just for checking the heat levels of the stealth system. That's a bit much, isn't it?
You didn't get the point regarding the pods. If you removed them and put in bunk beds instead, then everyone on board would have their own bed. More than enough for everyone to go to sleep at once if they wanted to. The pods are supposed to save space but instead they do the opposite.
The hangar/cargo bay of the SR-1 is even worse. With the columns in the middle there is no way the Mako could ever get back into the ship... getting out is barely possible.
Another offense (mainly in the SR-2) is that there are tons of cargo boxes all over the ship, none of them secured. Weapons lying around on tables instead of being locked away or at least stored properly.
Artificial gravity or not, it's a military vessel and has been in combat often enough. At some point it might be a good idea to make sure no one dies just because one system failed.
All that crew on board and barely anyone had an actual job. Most of them only existed for the background, just placed there without purpose.
Seriously, we can do better.

Most modern warships living spaces are fitted heavily from commercial sources. Picture lots of heavy duty utilitarian furniture that probably came out of a commercial airline upholsterer's design booklet or maybe even an Ikea office catalogue or the local Winnebago lot.

If the ship is called The Ark then it must have an AI called Optimus voiced by Peter Cullen or Gary Chalk (and if you with Chalk he has to say "Well that's just prime." at least once). Because that is the name of the Autobot ship that crashed on Earth in 1984!
