Based purely on assumption I kind of thought the Varric chest would give people a Hakkon weapon or something crazy. I got on to complete the challenge (and it is 5*) I didn't get anything of note. Was the reward another type of commendation chest or did you guys get something cool and just the lesser/outdated fans don't get them either?

If we got something cool, you'd probably of seen a topic about it. The chest is bugged atm and hasn't been given to anyone yet.

The chest giving out a Hakkon weapon would be maximum troll. Especially if it gives out the Longsword to people who are still looking for a real class's weapon.

In this case, current gen was not favored over you in any way. The Varric chest seems to be bugged and not dropping for most folks. Blar is investigating.
My PS4 is at 5/5 on Varric's book and I got nadda.

I just got the dagger today (whoo!), leaving only the staff for me to get. A guaranteed Hakkon weapon seems even more appealing now, knowing precisely what I'd get out of it, lol. Really, it's what should come out of the chest.l2p issue.

Agreed, unless there are sweet new items Luke managed to sneak in without putting them in the beta. 
Though, knowing my luck, it'll be the staff, not the dagger.

If Loot item score is max then makes sense to reward with a Hakkon for those that have everything else.. and for those that have the entire set then maybe a second Hakkon dagger or stamulat

What if Bianca is Varric's unlock item. Instead of Dwarven Longcoat (or whatever) its just more and more Bianca craftables for Varric.

I wouldn't like Hakkon weapons handed out in the varric chest. The more weapons you get, the lower the probability of getting another one. This advantages people who own multiple weapons. It was okay to hand out the old lvl 24 purple dragon weapons, some time ago, on completion of a weekend event. Hakkon is a diffrent story though. I'd like the idea of getting a tier 26 non-hakkon weapon, as you can get those simply by opening chests/farming perilous dragons.
