What was the point of her sacrifice if Gilmore sacrificed himself to give her more time to escape?
Wouldn't Bryce be more happy knowing that she survived?
Or for her to try to find Howe.

Just a final knife between the ribs for your Cousland character. From her point of view, she didn't want to leave her husband and to give your character those few extra minutes. She does it out of love.

Either that, or your possible Warden character already died with Bryce and Oren. Making her hopelessness complete.

Well that Eleanor probably doesn't live to make it to the pantry.  Although it would have been hilarious if she'd turned up at the Arl of Denerim's estate out for revenge.

SO basically out of love she made me an orphan? Is sadistic not tragic, the writers were sadistic here.

I think the old gal could do it. Her and the mabari maybe. "The Couslands will not fall to the likes of you!" :P

This begs the question though.. if they really want young Cousland helping, then maybe it's still Bioware's favored story.. like prebuilt "Hero of Ferelden" state in DA2. And not the Dalish.

Well according to her, she didn't figure she'd do anything except make it more difficult for you and Duncan to make your escape if she used the exit.  She claims it was more useful to delay pursuit by defending the pantry.  Of course she was indicating she was suicidal after seeing her grandson's body, so her judgement may have been swayed.

My gosh, and if Eleanor was not dead during the attack?
Maybe she is still alive?Afterall i don't believe in Howe words, maybe she escaped to go to Bruce!?
maybe it was a complot since the beginning because she got tired of Bryce?

If Eleanor was in the Army and delayed the attacking force while others escape she would get the Silver Star or  MOH posthumously. .

She stayed behind to buy time for Duncan and her son/daughter to escape and he/she was charged with finding his/her brother and taking revenge on Arl Howe.

Of course, that's how it plays.. but on other origins the whole family gets wiped out. I'm just wondering if this World of Thedas story still holds up that way, where she kills herself as a final survivor.

Good question..I'm not sure of the answer because I have started several human character games but, never played beyond  going to Orzammar.

In my Elf ,Dwarf or mage   games then I  know Howe is the Arl of Highover so, the  Couslands must have been wiped out  or rotting in a dungeon .

They were wiped out... one of the rumors with the bartender is about it, I think.

i get the impression that she stayed behind to die with bryce, there was no need for her to stay, since ser Gilmore and the others were buying time

Because dying with her husband is more important than living for her children?

I don't know. The first thing she tells a female Cousland when you meet her is, "I used to be a battle maid myself, but I think it was the gentler arts that helped land me a husband," and tries to talk you out of learning how to fight so you can "land a husband" as well; because apparently changing yourself to suit some shallow, insecure, egotistical man is more important than being yourself or forging your own way in life.

If she gave up everything in her life just to be with Bryce, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she gave up her life to die with Bryce.

It's part of the issue of self-sacrifice that is so big in the game.  She sacrificed herself to not leave her husband to die alone.  She could have lived, but she didn't really want to.  Strikes me that it foreshadows a choice her child will later have to make.

imho it's lame, once that you're dead you're dead ,it doesn't matter if you died alone or not,is not like the final GW sacrifice,at least with that you finish you're enemy, but with this, she  accomplished nothing, instead to try to rebuild what she lost, she get lost.

Eleanor is a strong woman she can survive to Bryce death, imho it was just for the sake of tragedy.

Because if she was still alive she would have been a plot loose end. Imagine the Warden going off to Ostagar to fight the Darkspawn with his/her mum along. It would kind of kill the sense of drama and adventure. I can just imagine the Warden going off into the wilds for their initiation and Eleanor being there at the gates of the camp with a packed lunch and a reminder to dress warmly. Basically, they needed to kill her off to get her out of the way.

The World of Thedas Volume 2 expands upon the lives of both Bryce and Eleanor. They weren't an arranged marriage between noble houses, they had a lot of history.

It's not surprising she wouldn't abandon him.
