Animation canceling is varied, but mostly the goal is to increase dps. You cancel after the first attack in everything but staff attacks, where you can either cancel after the third attack or the part where it fires three bolts. Anything in between is a dps lost.
Questions we really should know the answer to, but don't.

IIRC, for daggers it's to force main hand attacks (useful if you are using a low damage offhand), for staves it's restarting the chain faster, for everything else it's to reset the animation after every swing.

On animation canceling, what is the goal, even? Are people doing it after every basic attack, or only after the end of the chain to start the next chain sooner?
I pretty much only do it on my two-handed warriors... because their normal swing chain seems like it takes foooooreeeeeever.
I cancel the animation at the end of the first swing so I'm just chopping wood on enemies, basically. Speeds up my ability to hit things.

What do the bars represent in the defense section when you're picking your character. I mean numbers wise. The bars are fine but extremely vague and I've never quite understood how much it actually means
The bars don't mean anything, they're pretty much meaningless. Your defense is whatever your hp is plus armor bonuses and stat bonuses.

Okay, I've been wondering about this one: do staves apply a damage increase to spells of the same type? In the older DA games I recall lightning staves increasing the strength of lightning spells. Did this hold over to DA:IMP?
Only done the briefest of test, but it actually looks like yes.
Here's what I did:
Took a lv1 Ele into a threatening match armed first of all with a lv24 Dragon Staff (fire element) dps 170, hit a Red templar foot soldier with immolate & did 254 fire damage. I then quit equipped my Scepter of Razikale (lightning element) dps 172 & tried again, I hit a red templar foot soldier for 240 fire damage.
This however was only a single test, if someone was willing to look into this in greater detail that would be appreciated.
Good thread.
Question: In SP, your damage and the damage you take is affected by the level difference between you and the enemy. Is this true for MP? So a Level 1 character will have their damage and the damage they take penalized against higher level enemies? This would explain one reason why enemy level matters, and yes, why the game has "suggested" character level requirements for different difficulties. I'm sure the level difference is capped, I think in SP it is capped at +/- 3 levels, but is this even in MP?
Damage inflicted, no, on both threatening & perilous I used the same ele & hit a red templar foot soldier for the same damage (give or take 3 points), did get hit for more though, but I think that may have just been due to the change in diffculty
Hope this in some way helps.
Another question of my own just popped into my head, weapons that give guard on hit, is that a flat value, 5 or whatever, or is it an actual percentage like what the Kitari naturally generates?
Thanks.

A really dumb question - what is the difference between Ventaori Spellbinders and Ventaori Mages, aside from having a different look?

Not a dumb question at all
Black Hooded: Use Mines and cast Barrier, can "fly" away
White: Use AoE spells, have an elemental "slide" attack
difference increases on heartbreaker

I wonder when I'm able to get purple armors? Do I have to wait till they drop from chests? Or am I just not good enough to craft them (yet

you just need to get the materials by salvaging items, some do also drop from chests.

@coldsteelblue
The variation in numbers there might be due to the large attack bonus on the dragon staff, whereas Scepter has no thing. Also there is a .95 to 1.05 multiplier in every attack, presumably to simulate the feeling of a dice roll or something (my own thoughts, not sure why it's there).

I do have the materials, but the armors I can craft are only different colored versions of those I already have. (I have blue Lvl 12 armors on everyone, except for Pala)

Hm, so how armour crafting works is there is the starting armour, the example I'm going to use is Silent Sister. It'll be Silent Sister's Cuirass which is white. From there, you'll have the options to craft Silent Sister's Proving Cuirass, or Silent Sister's Cuirass of Bone/Sinew/etc. The Proving Cuirass is the second tier and is blue, whereas the Silent Sister's Cuirass of Bone and of Sinew are just colour variations on the first tier armour. What you're looking for is the third tier armor, the purple armours, which shows up as Proving Cuirass of Bone/Sinew/etc. You'll need to craft the Proving Cuirass first before you can move onto the third tier.
This pattern is visible in all classes, with the Archer's for example being Archer's Tunic/Peerless Archer's Tunic/Peerless Archer's Tunic (Flint/Steel/Obsidian).
I'm not sure if this is very clear, so sorry in advance.

Using the Archer as an example the order of armor quality is thus:
Archer's Tunic<Peerless Archer's Tunic (or Inquisition variant)<Archer's Tunic(Flint/Steel/Obsidian)<Peerless Archer's Tunic (Flint/Steel/Obsidian) (or Inquisition variants with colour)
The last one is the purple.

The last one is the purple. They used to be in the loot pools but not anymore, the only things in the loot pool now are the starting armours and their colour variants.
I've gotten rare (blue) armors from chests as recently as yesterday, even without having all its common-tier ones unlocked.

He's wearing Archer's Tunic (Steel) at the moment, that means I'm only missing his purple armor.

Spoiler

Craft his peerless tunic and 3 more options will open to craft. Everyone except Isabella it seems just craft the armor which takes the most components and then a new set of patients on that armor will open which require 1 or 2 more components per slot. Isabella seems to take more components for her weaker armors, not sure why except that one of the options is "boned"

1. When you use the Data Migration, to move your unlocks from last gen to current gen, do you get to keep your progress on the last gen console or do you have to start over from scratch?
I ask because I want to carry over my progress to Xbone before the end of summer, but want to make sure I can still play with my friends on 360 with all my unlocks available.
FAQ on dragonage.com says you can continue to make progress on old console, but does not state that progress is retained from prior to data migration. Also does not state official end date to data migration, just says it will be available for "this summer." Anyone used this yet who can give details? Anyone know the date when the Great Data Migration will end? I posted this elsewhere, but did not get a definitive answer.

Exporting a Savegame from an Xbox 360 Console
How to create a new exportable savegame from the Black Emporium:
- 1. On the Xbox 360 console, players must be in the Black Emporium to create a savegame for export.
- 2. In the Save Game menu, select NEW SAVE GAME and press [LT] to export to Xbox One.
- 3. A message appears to inform you what happens when a savegame is exported. Be sure to read the details.

What do I have to be aware of when exporting savegame data?
- Only one exported save is available in the BioWare Online Service cloud at a time.
- Attempting to export an additional savegame overwrites the previous exported savegame.
- Attempting to create a savegame for export outside the Black Emporium triggers a message that you must complete this action in the Black Emporium.

What should you be aware of when exporting savegames data?
- An error message appears if there is no available save game to import.
- An error message appears if there are missing DLC items. All DLC was used to create the game on the Xbox 360 system must be present on the new console to allow the import to proceed.

Migrating Multiplayer Data on an Xbox One console
How to migrate multiplayer data:
- 1. On the Xbox One console, select Main Menu and then Extras.
- 2. On the Extras screen, select Migrate Multiplayer Data.
- IMPORTANT! You can only migrate your multiplayer data once.
- You can only migrate multiplayer data from Xbox 360 to Xbox One via the Xbox One menu.
- 3. A pop-up message appears to inform you what happens when multiplayer data is migrated.
- 4. You can choose to proceed or cancel. The button to proceed has been moved from [X] to [Y] to prevent players from accidentally proceeding before reading the full details.
- 5. The migration process takes a moment. Once it completes, you should see the following message: "Your Xbox 360 system Multiplayer Data has been successfully migrated."
The multiplayer data migration is complete. You can continue playing on Xbox One.
What should you be aware of when exporting savegame data?
- If you have previously completed a multiplayer data migration on the account, you see an error message to that effect.
- This is a one-time, one-way migration.
- "Migration Error - Player is disconnected from online services (EA, PSN / XBL)."
- An online connection is required for the migration to complete.
- "Migration Error - Player has a purchase transaction in progress."
- This is generally caused by an MTX purchase that has not completed. Start the game on Xbox 360 to let the transaction complete.
- "Migration Error - Player has more than 99 Platinum on their account."
- You can only migrate their account if you have 99 Platinum or less. Any remaining Platinum on Xbox 360 is not transferred to Xbox One.
- If the balance is 99 or less, the balance remains on Xbox 360. Xbox 360 and Xbox One then have two separate balances.
- If the balance is 100 or more, the migration stops, and you must spend the Platinum on Xbox 360 before proceeding.
- You may see a generic error message if something occurs that we don't have a specific message for.
Multiplayer data migration will be available for PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4 systems, and Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles, this summer as part of the Dragon Age: Inquisition July update (Patch 8).
Hope that helps ![]()

Why doesnt the elementalist have blizzard?
I kinda wish they had the same spell combos like in da:o, blizzard + chain lightning = storm of the century, fireball + rock fist = meteor shower. Stuff like that was awesome when you found a new one and imo is the detail which made that game great. It would also encourage teamwork, imagine casting lightning on your tank and giving him lightning armor.

It seems self revival now counts towards your three.
Can be easily seen using the necro + spirit mark, but ive also encountered this with elementalist.
Not sure if I remember this correctly. Can't remember the results from back in the days of the no key drop glitch. But if I'm not mistaken. If someone dies on the last mobs in a zone. Reviving them by open the door to the transit area doesn't count. But since it been a while since then. It might have been changed several times.

What's the fastest way to farm mp gold? Is there any map that's proven to be the fastest or have more gold then others from a time value standpoint? Better to run a fast threatening or perilous or Is nightmares increase per pot/chest worth the extra time it takes?
the fastest way to get gold is to finish the run in shortest time. this means also "Never open treasury rooms or collect money by breaking items" since the time taken for all will increase the time per run. Go to the difficulty that you can solo in shortest time. This depends on your stats, level and dmg power. Any map (except dragon) is ok because they are the fastest to run.
