Which is better? Jaws of Hakkon or The Descent?

Decent has all the story I want, and a ****** amazing environment. Plus the deep roads are like a compulsive looter's heaven. Loot rooms! The one disappointment i have with it is the gear. Out of all the trash i picked up i think I only used this one fugly ass coat on Sera. It makes her butt look all blah and her front looks like a fat little boy. Disgusting.
End of the day decent wins by 6000.5 miles.

hakkon, felt more complete, more rounded. i left that area feeling like it was an equal to any other area in the game (a little light on the banter) and i play it that way now. I do not save it for the end, I play prior.

If you truly like DAI just get both.
Just don't get the equipment DLC since it doesn't contain story oriented DLC.

Personally I do think Jaws of Hakkon was the better of the two. Honestly the story elements and character content felt weaker in Descent.

Hakkon for me, hands down. I'm a sucker for banter and Descent was a huge disappointment in that department.
Also, it had a dragon.
Honestly though, I thought Descent was very underwhelming. I don't regret buying it because I think some of the reveals were nice but JoH had so much more to offer. I'm kind of tired of every Dragon Age game having you go "deeper into the deep roads than anyone before", too. Three games in a row just feels silly.

This music gives me chills every time I get to that section. It makes killing darkspawn that much more fun.Jaws of Hakkon easily but there is one area where Descent excels

Oh I intend to. I think I will play Decent after getting to Skyhold and then JoH after defeating Corypheus. It seems to me that order makes the most sense.

The qunari armor packs has some sexy make shirtless armor if that's your thing ![]()
I like Hakkon better by far. More companion interaction being the key reason.

Hmmm.... I started playing JoH just before Descent came out so I stopped going through JoH midway through to complete the Descent. It's hard to say which I like more - if I could, I'd rank it:
2nd part of JoH, The Descent, 1st part of JoH
The end of JoH (the whole story bit when you start to go after the Inquisitor for real) was awesome and elevated the whole DLC but taken as a whole I like The Descent more. The story/lore is better in JoH, but the pacing and combat and Renn!
are better in The Descent. Oh and the music of course. ![]()
I played both before the final quest, mainly because I wanted to take Solas with me (and then I didn't
) - I think it doesn't matter much when you do it, I think there's only one or two differing lines. Story wise I'd say The Descent makes more sense midway and JoH after... but not much. I usually roleplay/headcanon it so that between WEWH/HLTA and WPHW [hah acronyms] is a lot of time - you thwart C. and he licks his wounds for months, during which my Inquisitor is free to do whatever she pleases. So I think in future playthroughs I'll play the DLC between these story arcs.

They're both decent DLCs. But I liked Jaws of Hakkon better. It just had more of what appeals to me.

Hakkon took me days to finish. When I first saw hakkon I thought "this is Weird" but after playing it 3 different times, it's brilliant. The color schemes and zones are amazing. A fresh new and different take for bio ware and they did great! So many side quests, shards, astraniums, and a dragon that you feel like it's a zone in the vanilla game.
The banter is hilarious. Sera and Blackwell messing on Solas about the veil is hilarious, when you have a bear aid you on a mission the thing Dorian said had me laughing out loud. Also, the researcher on the elven gods and how you can ask sera for advice on one (and her response isn't typical) is great. The banter wasn't a lot, but it was good and funny.
I don't remember banter at all in descent.
I liked gear a lot better in hakkon.
The only plus to descent if you need gold, you will gets lots and lots of gold. Hakkon is worth 15 dollars, descent is worth 5.

I really enjoyed both. I also felt like they worked well together. They complement each other.

- First half of Descent
- JoH
- Second half of Descent
Don't get me wrong, second half of Descent was still interesting and challenging, it just didn't deliver as much interest as the other two. For example, the final boss battle in Descent isn't even in the same class as either the final or penultimate boss battles in JoH. Even the Ice Troll in JoH was more interesting.
But I loved the never-ending waves of darkspawn in the first half. That's what the Deep Roads oughta be.
FWIW, Trespasser would be way above all the rest.

As a fan of the Avvar, I'd have to say Jaws of Hakkon. The Descent certainly has its moments though. I love the darkspawn battles. In the end though, the whole Avvar culture thing and discovering Inquisitor Ameridan's fate (and getting to briefly speak to him) edge it out.

better - Jaws
why? - because I haven't played descent yet. When I do, I might choose descent

Jaws of Hakkon
It has my second favorite environment after the Emerald Graves and i get to add a bear to the Inquisition.

When it comes to the lore provided;
Jaws of Hakkon was more self-contained in that it did answer a lot of questions that were raised over the course of it's story, while the Descent raised a ton of questions and gave us a hint at some deeper mysteries going on in Thedas that we can have fun chewing on for years.
If the former is your cup of tea, then JOH is better, but if you enjoy speculation, then Descent is better.

I think Descent is the only thing Bioware's done that captures the feeling of "exploration", so in that regard I would say it's quite notable. JOH is a really well done zone, however, so there's that as well. I prefer Descent to JOH, but I like both.
