I'm about to start my second playthrough (loved the game) with my 2nd character from ME1. It was a renegade playthrough where I romanced Liara. I had planned to switch it up and do a paragon playthrough with this character but my question is this: I've been told by a few people that if you were renegade in ME1 and romanced Liara that she pretty much ends the romance between you in ME2. Is this true?

I'm hoping that's not the case because I had wanted to keep the romance with Liara until ME3 with this character. Thanks.

Well that sucks. Oh well, just gives me another excuse to go back and play ME1 again sometime in the future.

Here's to Liara being brought back as a party member in ME3.

Unless it's a bug, she's pretty cold if you're a -paragon-.

Unless that's a glitch. She hugs you and is happy, but she's still pretty distant. Or she was with my mostly-Paragon Shepard. :)

I found Liara's behavior towards me offputting, although I can understand that people can change after 2 years. Either way, it makes the decision to stay with her harder, especially if there doesn't feel like there is anything there anymore. I don't know if that was Bioware's intention or not, but keeping up the faith for someone that doesn't act interested anymore makes it difficult.

When she did that Asari Death Commando, I was floored. (I had to do the Benezia fight in ME1 at least a few times...)

Yeah. I was a little ... disappointed in that. I didn't expect her to be a squadmate, but after the first initial "SHEPARD! Hold my calls..." and the big hug and cuddle, she was ... really distant and so on.

My guess is they just recorded most of the convo for both then had the initial greeting be different for LI vs Paragons vs Renegades, but it was still a bit ... touchy.

Minor thing in a great game so far, though. :)

Wow she can break it off with you? My Femshep and her shared a kiss, so I think we'll okay o.O but she is very different in this one even her voice. . .its almost like there's nothing left of the cute shy doctor anymore *sigh*

My Paragon shep was basically dumped by Liara. She hug and kissed him but gave me the cold shoulder it seemed.

Did anyone notice in your cabin you have a picture of her? Then after you see her face to face that picture disappears like even Shepard knows its over?

So is there any payoff at all in ME2, if you stick with Liara as a LI? It looks like she got a much smaller role this time around

I don't think it has to do with being Renegade or Paragon, more that Liara has become obssessed with destroying the Shadow Broker and won't let her feelings for you get in the way of it.

There is no difference between paragon/renegade. The problem is that Liara only recognizes that you romanced her in that opening embrace/kiss. After that, all her dialogue is exactly the same as it is for someone who wasn't involved with her.

I really hope that you will be able to keep the relationship with Liara going through the third game.  It makes you think that it won't though because after you play the Shadow Broker pack, you get a decent scene with her after the fight and then you get to invite her to your quarters and have a little fun there, but then after that all she ever says is, "Thank you for stoping by."  Makes you almost want to start over again.

She doesnt' break it off with you. If you look *closely* as she hugs Shepard the first time, she mouths to him, or her, "I love you."  To officially, and with absolute clarity, "carry on" with the relationship, you do need the Lair of the Shadow Broker download, though.

The LotSB totally explains her earlier behaviour, it also ties together a lot of questions about her personality in general. The point is that Liara's personality in vanilla ME2 was odd, and unexpected. And it could have turned out to be just poor and pretentious writing, but with LotSB it was revealed to be something else entirely. I won't bother typing her description here though, done it often enough in other threads and the OP is almost a year old as is. Why did this up anyway btw? :)

Anyway, saying that Liara is now my favorite character - one of my favorite BW romances ever -, and one of the most developed personalities in the entire game, is nuff said.

Anyway, to continue discussion about Liara, there's the ME1&2 Characters and Fan Creations Forum.
