Torn between playing a rogue or mage

I've been wanting to create a new inquisitor for a while now and I want to break my habit of making warrior after warrior. I've beat the game with a warrior and a mage so far and with The Descent being released I want a fresh start.

So, I think i'm going to play a human female but like the title says i'm torn, when I played mage (Elf) I enjoyed it thoroughly (Walking bomb is so satisfying) but i've never fully played a rogue, I like the idea of a badass female dual wielding assassin who people fear but I also like the special dialogue options provided with being a circle mage.

Can anyone help me out? what have your experiences been with rogues and mages and which would you recommend?

Thanks

I personally prefer playing mages, but in your place I would give rogue a try.

All three rogue specs are interesting, but since you're mentioning assassin... I've played both archer and dw assassin. They fighting style is of course different, but both are really lethal.

So really, I would give it a try  :)

Out of DW and archer which would you recommend?

Both have their ups and downs.

With archer you're pretty much deadly mashine that can finish enemy before they can get close to you (or even see you).

While with dw I had fun with all this positioning and sneaking behind my enemies. And with upgraded Flank Attack you can stay in stealth almost all the time.

Actually, I would suggest respecing for a bit and checking both dw and archer after you get specialisation  :)

Thanks  :) I'll try them both out and stick to which fits my playstyle

If you like warriors and want to go DW I highly recommend Tempest.  Be the tempest...wade in and destroy your enemies!  It plays like a mix of mage and warrior.

I liked playing as a rogue, the only problem that I had with it was how dumb the armor looked. lol

I enjoyed being able to strafe my enemies as an archer, far more than I did sneaking up on the baddies with my dual-wielder rogue.  But my first character in the game was an archer, so I may be biased somewhat.

It might be an easier transition for you to go with DW rogue since you're used to jumping right into the thick of battle with your warriors. My main is an Assassin DW Rogue. Build to get an extremely high crit % and crit damage... plus all the passives with bonus damage with stealth and flanking... I can sneak in, do ridiculous amounts of damage before the enemy knows what happened. Fun class, IMO...
