Do you want to be able to control companions or just the protagonist? I'm just curious about people's opinions. While we can't play as other alien races in the story mode, I personally would love to at least be able to play as our companions who fight alongside Shepard.

I'd rather they keep it the way it is in the ME series with companions

Keep the DA gameplay in DA.

Keep the ME gameplay in ME.

There's no need to cross-pollinate.

I don't really care. Unless they ramp up the difficulty and encourage tactical play more often.

ME companions exist for:

1. banter during combat

2. individual comments during cutscenes

3. decoys

4. eye candy

At no point have I ever relied on any companion to kill a target. If they do, it's a welcome bonus but usually I do all the work myself. Which is weird since your squad has 100% accuracy, so even if you give them a Tempest, they'll still be able to hit enemies at long range with it. Maybe I'm just too good at killing stuff for them to keep up...

I don't know how much they contribute (I play console, so no way of measuring it.. if there is something like that). Some tough levels I'll use their powers for debuffing or interrupting, but usually let them do what they want too. Controlling companions to me would be more necessary like a tough Kotor fight or something.. and I have to take my time to not get overwhelmed even for a moment. Here though, you can do a lot in real time.

Hell yes. It's always frustrated me that I couldn't control my companions, there are so many problems I wouldn't have had if I'd been able to move them myself.

Of course, if the companion AI is good, and they don't have glitches like Shepard getting stuck on Turian's heads, the air above elevators, or pole-dancer's platforms, we probably won't need it. Still, it was fun to run around as your favorite character whenever you wanted to in DA. I wouldn't mind doing the same in ME.

You say that like Bioware has never done it before.

For me, it's not so much needing them to make a kill, as needing them to NOT eat rockets and die so they can continue drawing enemy fire. Especially on Insanity. Combat got better in ME3, but in ME2 & 1 that companion control option would have made things much better.

Nah, I'm fine with ME's combat staying the way it is.

Why would changing characters make the game easier?

I prefer to control the main character only.

I would've played ME2 from start to finish as Zaeed if it was possible, so yes I want to control companions.

I'd rather be Zaeed in ME3. He had a nice skillset for a soldier.

No matter how good you are at killing stuff you can still kill stuff faster if you use their powers. 2 free cooldowns, instant combos, debuffs etc

So long as it works i'm fine with it. But honestly, I think the way it was in the trilogy is fine.

No.

I like having your companions feel like other people. Controlling them directly takes away from that.

I would prefer this feature to getting a game over when the PC dies but both the companions are still up and moving. If I can medi-gel them, they should be able to medi-gel me.

You're telling me I could have spent the whole game running around as Wrex or Garrus, and they cut it?!

Bioware. Why.

Sure, why not? I loved it in KotOR and I'll love it again with MEA.
