II - You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.

I thought that was the 3rd?

So it's a creature that swims in water? Not exactly a flying creature then huh?

It is still not quite as bad as telling people they will burn in eternal hellfire for not believing in a wacky system of belief.

If you have strong faith in your religion and are perfectly happy in your beliefs then I don't think some gaudy sign is going to change your mind and to be honest the signs really aren't aimed at you (well perhaps the one telling you not to whip out your religion in public might be), but there are many who were brought up religious, who were told they are an abomination for being who they were and that if they did not obey a silly system of beliefs they would burn in eternal hellfire, they cant come out to their parents for fear of being disowned or worse yet sent off to some fruity religious brainwashing camp (see Kidnapped for Christ), in America Atheists are the least trusted minority and probably the most discriminated against, it is for these people these signs exist and considering the amount of religious propaganda they need to exist and have every right to exist.

I had ramen today. Went past our local japanese noodle bar and spontanously decided to go grab my some ramen. It must be divine providence.

And considering I go there regularily, surely it must mean the spiritual connection I have with his balls is strong!

Cause and effect.

The Cause: Faithful Christians, Catholics, Protestants and Mormons telling everyone they're going to hell if they don't worship God and his magical Jewish zombie son.

The effect: Atheist, after hundreds of years of being told they're immoral, sinners, monsters, fiendish now hate religion and attack it.

What a twist, that's some M. Night Shyamalan sh*t right there.

Eh, vocal atheists are the exact same thing as vocal theists.

You want to belief in stuff or not, that's your own personal business, emphasise on the personal, as in opposed to public.

Lmao, but it's no longer personal and was public long before my meager two posts on the subject. Someone made some off the wall comment I replied, simple as that. Admittedly I shouldn't take the bait, but I'm weak like that.

...what? "Atheists" are the least trusted and most discriminated against minority in the U.S.? Now that's a laugh. Forget about the black and Hispanic populations, much of whom live well below the poverty line and are often thought of as nothing but criminals and freeloaders by others - we should be much more sympathetic to the plight of a bunch of self-flagellating white boys (because lets face it, those are the people that "atheism" mostly consists of).

The truth is that Christianity has been losing power and relevance in this country slowly and steadily for several decades now, and continues to at an increasing pace. If anything, I'd say atheism is on the rise. Maybe not your particular obnoxious brand of atheism, but the general lack of belief in god and religion is definitely growing.

My advice to you and the rest of your buddies on r/Atheism is to not mistake a general distaste for your personal conduct and behavior as "discrimination." People (including a lot of non-religious people like myself) don't like "atheists" because a lot of them are loud, boisterous, and can't STFU about god and religion. It's annoying and shows a lack of social grace that makes people not want to associate with you, or with atheism as a whole.

Most so called "athiests" from the west are just anti-christian blowhard bigots picking on a weak and trendy target. Most of them don't say much about Islam, Judaism, hinduism or any other non-western religion. The contempt (not "discrimination") they receive is very merited, and not enough I'd say.

Of course atheists aren't the most discriminated against, that's preposterous, but polls do put atheists pretty low in terms of trustworthiness. Not that I care about stupid stuff like that, being one.

Perhaps not the most discriminated against as it is far easier to hide your beliefs than the colour of your skin but it does seem like is is more socially acceptable to discriminate against Atheists than any other group

I want to know who among you will be the first to offer Hellfire Preaching for your FSM?

Someone needs to get to work on that.

Well Islam and Judaism are just as abominable as christianity and I am pretty sure you will find plenty of Athiests have much to say on them, who do you think organizes events like Muhammad day?

As for why you don't generally hear them go after religions like Buddhism it is because Budhists are nowhere near as abominable and intolerant as other religions, I have yet to have a Buddhist come knocking at my door telling me all about this great place full of eternal suffering I get to go to if I don't follow their religion.

Wow, speaking of distrusted and discriminated against minorities... there's definitely no source more authoritative on matters of politics and religion than Cenk "Genocide Denial" Uygur and his token Armenian co-hostess that he exploits to dodge criticism of his woefully misnamed show and flip-flopping over the Armenian Genocide.

Sorry, but I don't buy it. I have no doubt that there are non-religious people out there who are mistreated by their family and peers for their beliefs (or lack thereof), but I'm willing to bet that it's fairly uncommon and is becoming more uncommon by the day. I'm also willing to bet that most cases of mistreatment are really pretty mild when compared to, say, the LGBT population, who have a high rate of homelessness among teens and young adults because their families kicked them out.

I'll go one further and say most of the people who say they distrust atheists are talking out of their ass. A lot of "religious" people in this country are actually really lax in their beliefs, to the point where it's dishonest for them to call themselves religious. They violate every tenet of their "faith" daily and only bring up their "beliefs" when it comes up in conversation or when directly asked or confronted about it. Beyond that, their beliefs don't really affect their behavior in any way that would seriously inconvenience a non-believer. So all their talk of distrusting atheists is just that: talk.

Now atheists who feel the need to rudely justify themselves every time the subject of religion comes up (and often when it doesn't) and wear their non-belief on their sleeve will definitely be "discriminated" against and find themselves in conflict with friends, family, and complete strangers... but whose fault is that?

You did not even bother watching the video did you? Just saw the splash screen and assumed it was TyT? There is a clip from TyT in there about how the American Cancer Society refused a donation from an Atheist group (here is a link from another website if you don't believe TyT, if you don't believe that website you can always google it yourself and find plenty of articles) but it is just one small part of the video, the video is not from the TyT youtube channel.

As for Atheists being the most mistrusted group in America that is what the studies show, you might (and probably will) try to argue that the studies are skewed and don't have all the facts but it does not take a genius to see that Atheists (and no not just us "rAtheiests" trying to take god away from you and murder baby Jesus) aren't exactly liked in America, try getting an Atheist in the White House and see what happens, it does not matter how good an atheist candidate might be you would have a better chance of getting Hitler elected than an Atheist.
