New to DAIMP, need lots of advice...

I'm very new to DAIMP (and have almost completed my first play-through of the SP campaign) and am looking for some general advice. I can only play sporadically, so trying to maximize my time to the best of my ability.
So far, I've been playing archer, as it seems the most noob friendly. Also played around some with keeper.
I've finally gathered enough mats to finally craft my first armor, but now unsure of what to craft. As I said, I have very limited playtime (being old and responsible sucks), so want to use my mats as best as possible.
So my options as I see them:
1. Craft the Archers inquisition armor or the peerless armor to unlock the level 15 armor (I have the level 12 armor). (I think all of the level 15 armor is essentially the same?). I'm 0/0/0 promotions, so this might let me play on threatening, where I get wrecked now. However, my bow is incredibly poor (level 21 white) and am not sure the new armor would make me less squishy enough for threatening by itself.
2. Same thing but with keeper. Craft either of the armor that let me unlock the level 15 armor so I can try and play keeper on threatening. I have a level 20 blue staff, so that's a little better.
3. I have legionarie and Templar unlocked, but my sword and board gear is pretty mediocre (level 16 blue long sword of the dragon and level 8 blue dragon shield), so not sure I should go this way.
Also, tanks seem to have the highest learning curve, so thinking of maybe waiting on this one.
4. I scored a blue level 21 great axe that seems pretty nice. I could make the armor for one of the two hand warrior classes, but not sure which is the most noob friendly.
This option seems the most preferable right now, so I can get some Con promotions and raise my survivability.
5. I have a level 21 purple dagger (wicked grace) and a level 11 blue dagger (hook blade). This would be by far my best weapon combo. This would also give me my most HoK of any my class.
I have the pirate unlocked, but I get killed pretty fast playing her, but that's probably user error.
While I would like to take advantage of the daggers, it seems like melee rogues would be the most penalized by my lack of promotions. And it seems like some of the other dagger rogues would have more survivability and be more user friendly than the pirate.
TL;DR:
1. Are there any differences between the various level 15 armors?
2. For someone with limited playtime, what would be the bet class to focus on for awhile? In terms of weapons, my best are:
Staff: blue level 20
Sword/board: blue level 16 sword and blue level 8 should
2hander: blue level 21 great axe
Bow: white level 21 bow
Daggers: purple level 21 (wicked grace) and blue level 11
Would it be best to go warrior promotes to boost survivability?
Go rogue to use my only purple weapon?
Stick with archer as it seems really noob friendly?
Go with keeper as every group would seem to love a keeper?
3. When can I head up to threatening without getting wrecked?
Thanks everyone!

use pala.
the silent sister.

My advice firstly would be to play a character you enjoy. Having a lot of promotions is not essential once you get some decent gear and learn how to play (up to perilous).
I wouldn't really consider the archer to be noob friendly. He draws a lot of aggression. The keeper and barrier might be a better start and less gear dependent. Or, if you can, craft the silent sister. She's a blast to play and very sturdy.
I would head to threatening after you feel comfortable in routine.
That's all my advice as a newish player myself

what platform are you on? My advice is to find friends and pick something you enjoy. I achieved my assassin banner before I even knew it was a goal -- I just enjoyed playing her that much. Friends are helpful, though, if you wish to step up in the difficulties. I'm on XBox One and happy to play with friendly nice people.
Edit to add: your character may die; that is the way of things. I died a lot in the beginning. Armor, gear, promotions -- all of it helps so much.

Sadly, I'm PS4.
Also, I mostly play once my kids are asleep. So it's very sporadic.
As to playing what's fun? I'm an retired, old school MMO player, so slightly obsessive compulsive about min/max'ing.
So playing something well is more fun to me than any individual playstyle would be.

use pala.
the silent sister.
I've seen the threads.
Is she really that unbalanced right now? Or just if you have a lot of promotions.
I've been thinking about this one. Let's me use my only purple.
This is probably the right answer I think.

When I first started back in March, I basically pored through all the info contained in the Unofficial Resource Library stickied at the top.
The builds are great and there is a ton of accumulated info that you won't really find anywhere else.
I found Katari to my liking and basically learned the game through him. It helped that sulevin blade was my earliest "endgame" drop at around the 200k gold mark.

If you like min / maxing, and power, use my builds. Other people like to use builds that are more 'fun' without power / efficiency orientated.

Here's a thread on the combat mechanics in SP. Note it isn't perfectly the same, nor complete as MP has different balance and updates:
http://forum.bioware...mbat-mechanics/
Here's the equipment spreadsheet:
http://forum.bioware...pment-document/
Duelist / Pirate is fine to grind threatening / perilous on, which will get you all but the absolute most BIS end gear equipment that requires higher cunning to make the most out of.
Lego is OK, but not fantastic to grind constitution on. Currently Reaver is the best for that, but Katari is the most fun. Avvar is too expensive to use initially.
Keep in mind you can salvage lower-end armor upgrades and runes for more cloth as well.
Skip threatening. Try to get into some perilous frost dragon runs if you can. Eventually you'll unlock the dragon weapons from dragonslaying, and other fun toys. No one's going to decline a keeper, particularly my destruction field type, but there's other grind-able min-maxable classes too.
My earliest victories were from Ele and Templar, but YMMV. Reaver is a very powerful option.

For the archer use Mark for Death and let your team deal damage for you. I think you have enough time to cast Marked for Death, Full Draw, Long Shot and detonate Marked for Death. Lets just say it is a boatload of damage.

This must have been done to the HB dragons, right? Please tell me there is a recording of this on a heart breaker dragon.

1. Upgrade Armour. You will only need to upgrade 1 of each tier to get max armour. the different types are cosmetic only.
2. Keeper is going to be able to handle higher difficulties earlier as your role is protection. use Drasca's Starter Keeper build and get good at it.
3. Lego is good at higher difficulties too. Counterstrike and Walikng Fortress are very tanky.
4. Reaver carves but Katari is more fun and easier to play.
5. Wiked Grace is good.
Duelist is OP once you L2P her. manage elusive and stamina is key. her abilities all come from main hand weapon only so you only need 1 high dmg dagger.
the key component you miss early is crit chance so focusing on Rogue promotions will reap benefits the most.
there are key passives reducing cool downs based on crit hits.
the easiest way to grind is with friends so work on building a list and let them carry you as you learn more classes.
Perilous Dragons will drop great loot so if you can sneak into a few of those games....
there is also a loot score system governing the weapon drop probabilities. farm gold and treasure rooms and spend it all.
Good luck and welcome ![]()

As well as Pala, I'd recommend unlocking the elementalist. Great for CC, forgiving of lag, and nice survivability with death siphon and barrier.
But yeah, Pala is pretty damn tough.
I'm more trying to focus on one of each archtype that I can focus on to run up promotes at higher dififcult

I read your thread (and Yallegro (sp?)) about a week ago. Yours seemed a little more advanced to what I was doing; but it did give a great base, as did many of the of threads in the Resource Sticky.
Just a quick question. Since I don't have a dagger that generates guard, it seems like I can't really pass on flashing steel, as it would seem to be a pretty solid guard generator.
I seem to be locked into at least using charging bull and flashing steel. I also feel like I need a defensive move (parry or combat roll).
That leaves the last slot to be spinning blades early and hidden blades late.
That seems like a good starter loadout until I get a dagger that generates guard on hit and can forego some of the guard generating abilities?

I don't want to head into perilous, because I don't want to leach.
I figured the Duelist problems were L2P issues on my part, but I seem to be getting hit much faster than I can generate elusive.
And I know about the loot/chest gate.
I'm sorely tempted to just buy $100 worth of platinum and just blow past that and also have the mats to unlock all the characters to play around with them. Seems kind of a silly idea though.

Ditch flashing steel. My latest build involves warcry. That gives guard AND temporary armor / invincibility, as well as taunt
Throwing blades, Spining Blades, Warcry, then Charging Bull or Parry

Just start playing Perilous already. Skip the platinum unless you're loaded.

I would not take this advice as a new player needs to get their feet wet to some extent learn some maps and learn how others are apt to play. You may be able to go to perilous before reaching level 20 but do at least a run or two on threat until you are confident there.
Perilous is easier than it was when it first came out but still will be tough for a new person, low on gear, low on armour and not having a ton of game experience.
If you can go through a thr5eating game with no problems at all with a group or feel close to soloing threat then by all means but take a few games to learn the ropes.

The problem is the frame of reference Beerfish. Even if he doesn't have good gear, he doesn't need it with a class that isn't gear dependent. the rest of them will have better gear. If he plays a support role or build that does not require good gear, he'll be better for it.
Realistically perilous is the new threatening for all of us and the new routine for some of us. The sooner he plays perilous dragons, the sooner he'll match the gear gap. He can learn the better builds here.
