EA is not investing in DA:I

It's quite clear EA is not investing in the last title. There isn't a good marketing strategy for the DLCs, that are nothing but more of the same, few maps a small team can build up without too many expenses. The price of said DLCs is high, like they want to milk all they can from the few fans that are going to buy them.

My point is: DA:I sold very, very poorly. This is the second title that fails hard, and this time BIoware tried to make a good game. The next DA will be made with the "This is the last one" mentality.

I ask Bioware to close the franchise with style. Go back to the first game, it's combat mechanics and maps. Don't try that hard to appeal SJWs, that strategy failed for everybody else, just like it failed for you. Don't try to take the attention of CoDers too. Make a game for Gamers, that are the ones that gave this franchise popularity in the first place. So no more pushing liberal propaganda, build story, setting and characters as they are people of Thedas, not projections of people living these days with modern day ideologies. And FFS make sexuality and romance options secondary. Again, female adolescent gamers aren't those who pay, at the end of the day.

Good luck on this thread... :D

I don't know what their sales were, but I never understood their statement ("best launch" or something like that. Does that mean preorders? I don't know. I preordered myself, and I dislike most of the game).

While I somewhat agree with you about the odd marketing strategies of Bioware, DA:I didn't sell poorly, and even if it did, it wouldn't have been for the reasons you thought.

Best launch BY FAR in Biowares history.

So far, it seems as if they're investing in DAI as much as they have in their other recent games. DA2 got two pieces of single-player DLC released after it came out, ME2 got four and ME3 got three. It seems probable that Inquisition will end up with three, making it perfectly average. JoH and The Descent are priced the same as Omega and Citadel, so I think that's just BioWare's standard pricing these days and not a frantic cash grab.

Far be it from me to interrupt your panic about the Dread SJWs, though.

Best launch in Bioware history. Meaning that the game did better at launch than any other previous Bioware title, better than any Mass Effect, better than the BG series.

That's what it means.

I think it sold quite well too.  As has already been said it had the best launch of any Bioware game.  I read it sold over 1 million copies in its first week.  I'm not sure if that's amazing or mindblowing but I know it's not bad.  Personally I enjoyed DA2 but I know many, most maybe, didn't.  So taking that into account, I would've thought more people would've been more reticent of the follow up.

Here's what people need to understand. A franchise isn't just measured by its raw sales. It's sales relative to expectation. If the title loses money, it's typically a failure (but not always - there are other reasons why a company would take a title to market). Even if it makes money, that doesn't mean anything if it makes less than expected.

DA2 almost killed the DA brand. It was amazing to see. Even if the game made money and even if it overshot expectations, the damage to the brand was a real issue. DAI did a lot to revitalise the brand, including the slew of GOTY awards. The next game can build on that, trying to sell to the tens of millions of gamers that didn't buy any of DA, DAO and DAI.

Actually, there's ample reason to believe that, at the end of the day, they're slightly more than half.

That's probably even more true for RPGs like Bioware's than games by other developers. My own anecdotal experience is that of all the people I know both personally and professionally who play Bioware's games - only two of them are guys, and one of those guys is me. That is not a recent development, either.

Anyway, I think Bioware should probably keep on making games for their fans. Catering to odious cretins who have an extremely skewed perspective of what constitutes "liberal propaganda" would be ten steps back.

As a rule though, just because something is a standard price given by a company, doesn't mean that company isn't overpricing that something. I personally did not think JoH, Omega, or Descent were worth $15. 10 would have been fine.

According to the signals from the CIA I hear through my fillings, DAI only sold two copies to a janitor named Jim and a disease-riddled moose.

Everyone else on the forum is astroturfing, or part of a mass hallucination.

I don't know where people get that idea either. That girls don't play games is a myth, and one that should have been thrown out years ago. Even just looking at this forum, where a lot of the more enthusiastic fans go, there are a lot of women. Without having counted, I'd say it's roughly half.

And I don't find it at all surprising that women would be drawn to RPGs, and especially Bioware RPGs. Being able to play a game as a female is oddly uncommon, but to be able to actually be recognized as one in the story, have minor things change because of it, and have romance options available to you is certainly appealing.

Ten dollars might be just fine for you, but it doesn't mean it would cover all expenses that went into the development of the dlc. EA has to cover that and then make a profit beyond it. So the fact you think it's only worth ten bucks doesn't mean that price will even cover cost.

Other than Shale, most of DA's DLC has been average at best (and quite a bit of it was just downright bad), and I'm not sure how much of the fault lies with EA there. Maybe they wouldn't fund the development of some of the DLC... or maybe the developers just cut as many corners as they could and rushed out the DLC for a quick buck.

I think that universally, it's the publisher, not the developer, who's concerned with making a quick buck. In this particular case, I say that with complete confidence.

That said, historically, I don't think your claims about their DLC quality is accurate. My opinion, at any rate. For the most part, Bioware's DLC tends to be pretty damn good, with the best stuff being great - oftentimes head and shoulders above the base game. ME3's offerings, case in point. Legacy was hands down the best part of DA2. Lair of the Shadow Broker might be one of the single best DLCs for any game. Content of that quality justifies the whole practice for me.

I suspect with DAI we'll get a slightly longer support cycle (Mass Effect 2's DLC support lasted nearly 2 years). The offerings thus far are about as controversial as the base game. I thought JoH was terrific, but people who don't like the zone and quest design in DAI don't like it. Descent is a shorter, but meaty DLC that you can definitely take your time with (or burn through, skipping side content) that has some neat characters, some neat lore reveals, and some totally badass visuals, but gives back what you put into it.

Best launch means hype and pre orders. One month later nobody cared about Inquisition anymore. No forum was talking about Inquisition except by Elhanan and his multiple accounts to pretend someone liked the game. So yes, it sold great because fake videos made us buy, once people knew where they were stepping in game just vanished from history. THANKFULLY.
10 years from now people will look back and say: "So THAT was the game i was forgetting about... jesus, why did Bioware even develop that piece of ****?"
Happily most people already realized how awful this game is. I was away for a couple of months and I'm very happy to see that a lot of people who liked the game now are criticizing it. Aside from Elhanan and the katy perry with green hair avatar most people already broke free from The Great Infinite Tsukuyomi of Denial.

Well I said DA's DLC, not the DLC for their other games. Most of ME's DLC was pretty decent, especially ME2's.

DA:O is still the worst offender methinks. Golems of Kal'Hirol Amgarrak, Witch Hunt, and Leliana's Song were just awful. And while I still enjoyed Darkspawn Chronicles, Warden's Keep, and Return to Ostagar well enough, they weren't really anything to write home about either. Hell, I probably wouldn't have played any of it if not for the Ultimate Edition, as the DLCs were definitely not worth the price of admission individually.

I guess half is a bit too high. According to the twitter below, I would said 1/4 to 1/3 is a safe bet. I agree the ratio of female players has increased and is increasing, obiviously.
