Apologies if this is an ooold topic (I'm guessing it is, so... bump and beat a dead horse i guess?)

 

Is there any way to text message players on PC besides requesting and being accepted as 'friend' in Origin?

 

I don't use a microphone... I know.. such a simple fix, but i'd rather not and often am unable to use one.  In any case, 90% of the time this is absolutely no issue, and I consistently have immeasurable amounts of fun.

 

Tonight, I joined a pub group zone 3 FC perilous, I scouted both doors when there were just a few mobs left.  I found they were both rogue doors, a class we did not have in our group.

 

So, I run for the zone door.  I grab it.  Someone in the group proclaims "Maybe you should wait for the doors since you just joined?"

 

Yes perhaps I should, but I didn't, I checked myself, and found we couldn't open them (I'm assuming said person was referring to the treasure rooms).  I irritatingly cannot convey this to my team mates.

 

I sent a friend request to all players in the group hoping to message them via Origin, yet didn't get an accept by the end of the run.

 

So... TL:DR  - is there any quicker way to message players?

 

I'm guessing there isn't and that this topic has been posted way too much already ? >.>

edit: I also realize a mic would dispel this issue completely, but it is simply not practical for me for the majority of the time I play

you answered your own questions:

 

there is no text chat (nor are there any plans for it) und yes, a mic would solve all of your problems...

 

but if that is not an option for you then just ignore the pugs or make friends and play in private lobbies

I suppose you are right.  The time for this flavor of 'vent' post is long gone I'm thinking!  Doesn't change that I wish there was text chat though >.>

Baloney. I played Demons Souls and Dark Souls for years on PS3 using text chat. Made some great friends that carried through many different games.

 

One thing about text chat is that you retain a record of conversation (either to check back later, or to relay more complicated info like a website) and you know who is speaking. If you're playing in a pug with unknown players, how can you tell who is barking something? Often, you'll miss what was said in the heat of the moment. 

 

Anyone deny that a written language is superior to only an oral tradition?

No, nobody denies that. Im saying the reason that text chat isn't in the game is because this game was made for console. Consoles do not usually have text chat because you play with a controller, not a keyboard. Text chat in PC games are a staple, however, this isn't a PC game, so no text chat.

I also have my laptop's mic disabled by default cause for whatever reason despite having PtT enabled in the options it's always open and I figure ya'll dont wanna hear my labored, raspy breathing/dog barking. I run into the same issues you are talking about here from time to time. Cant help the trolls who refuse to open their class doors while standing right in front of them.

 

Just friend anyone you meet who is skillfull and behaves and send out invites to your pool of probably-not-shitty players before you open the lobby to pugs.
