Oh, I'm sure your Warden was cool as well. Honestly, I do think most people hold a high regard of their very own Warden. I wouldn't say my Aeducan was that awesome, but he has quite a beard. Pfft, Varric's chest hair are the best..really? You sufacer are a bunch of small humans and babies. :P

Actually, my Aeducan Warden was pretty silly.. I won't get into all of it. :P

I'm more fond of the Commoner.

If you're only planning one playthrough of DAI then female elven Rift Mage with a Solas romance will give you the most connections to the main story.

You should have seen my nerd action hero Amell. :P

Aye, I know that there's a number of people who prefer "the Commoner" origin more, and I can understand why. I have a special reason for liking my Aeducan enough for him to be (my canon) warden. I just think he's fit perfectly as "Warden-Commander" type or someone who's familiar with political intrigue. Besides, I like how he's pretty much fallen from grace, and not to mention the Exile's theme.

Speaking of the origin for your Warden, I think Cousland is the only origin where you can actually justify having some intense personal feeling against Howe. While in every other origins, Howe is pretty much a thorn in your way, and you couldn't care less about chop his head off and be done with it.

I do recommended Human or Elf origin for DAI.

Actually, I just like the Commoner because it fits the Rogue more... and I like Courtenay Taylor's cocky voice (Jack from ME). It didn't blend well with the Aeducan. Also, it's a rags-to-riches story and all that. But yeah, the Aeducan is the most qualified commander type. And I think only them and the Dalish have a real tie in with the darkspawn from the beginning. I like that about them (my main Warden is Dalish).

I won't argue that the Commoner origin fits the Rogue class more, and yeah some voice just don't fit with some origin/type of character. I like Courtenay Taylor's work though. I can see why people would prefer a rags-to-riches or from nobody to hero/nightmare, and an ending to the rise to power story can be extremely satisfying. I think the Aeducan if not the most then it's one of the most qualified commander type. Very true, also only the Mahariel (Dalish) have real tie with the Eluvian, it's quite a shame more people wasn't into the Dwarven Noble or the Dalish origin IMHO.

The City Elf has plenty of reasons to hate Howe. He purged the Alienage, facilitated the slavery ring, and imprisoned (and probably tortured) Soris.

The one thing I felt did not make sense about the elf race, is that if you are a mage, you are the apprentice of your keeper. This means you are second in line to be Keeper. So, you are probably the most educated in the clan regarding Dalish Gods and eleven magic( you only use circle magic aside from rift), because as a leader of your people, you are going to need to know these things. However, when your elf talks, you see more of a regular dalish, more than you see an elf the Keeper has chosen to succeed her. As a hunter elf, it doesn't make sense for the keeper to send you and not her apprentice. Her apprentice is going to have to know how to deal with other races for commerce ad diplomacy reasons, so it would make sense for the apprentice to be sent out on covert missions before a hunter would.

Honestly, I feel there is no "best race" for the story. It all depends on how you want to RP the character. All the PCs have a reason to be at the conclave. Certain areas fit best with a specific race, but there is no overall "best race" for Inquisition.

I am playing a dwarf, and feel like he fits in the story just fine.

Yeah, those reasons remind me that the City Elf can justify personal hatred for Howe. I still think it wouldn't be as personal as Vaughan, and Soris being imprisoned can be averted if you had taken all the blame.

An Elf will probably give you the most out of the game storywise. Lots of luck. :)

Male human mage who romances Cassandra.

Alternatives? If you play as an elf, always play as a female. The elf males have broken arms and moobs too if I recall.

Qunari females seem... fat. I would recommend playing as a horned qunari if you play a female qunari. A hornless one seems oddly proportioned. The horns might balance this out. But I agree that this seems weird for a dw rogue. Especially since they have to reach behind their backs to draw their blades and the horns logically block this motion.

I think a drawf is good for dw, but they aren't really a good match for the storyline. But I plan on one day playing a male dw rogue dwarf who flirts with Harding.

Human fits the most natural, especially if you go for a rogue or a warrior. I find other races require more than a bit of suspension of disbelief from me.

If this is going into Race and Specalization combos now, then this becomes a lot easier to examine.

Human or Elf: Humans fit the best in general becuase the game was always made with them in mind, Elves can experience a lot of in character reactions to the Dalish lore going on and have a more cultural stake in the main plot.

Specializations: Humans and Elves can become  a Rift Mage for a connection to the type of magic the Mark on your hand is and studying the Breach. Knight Enchanter if you want to either fight for the Divine(Human) or honor the Arcane Warriors(Elf).  Templar also works for humans the same way as the Knight Enchanter does in following a holy calling.
