There's almost no way that she could be a companion in a future title without it coming off as "We've heard your feedback and we decided to make her ****-able for you guys! :wizard: "

People are going to make comments like this regardless of which character gets to come back and/or gets to be romanced.  They'll never avoid it, so they shouldn't let that drive their decision making process.  She's clearly both a fan and dev favorite (remember them giggling over how she was a 'little bundle of murder' prior to release?) and her role as Agent of the Inquisition (and trusted forward Scout Leader) would all point to her being a good potential choice.

I don't really think "fan favorite"  should be a factor in deciding what characters make the party in any rpg.

Any time spent contriving a reason for her to be where she is could better spent making a new, interesting character. Also I know people would make these comments regardless but I really don't think there's much to her 'fandom' other than how cute people find her.

Meh.  She's fine.  People like her.  A lot of people, actually.  So that's a perfectly good reason to include her in a larger role in a future game.  That's been happening for hundreds of years in fiction.  A popular character gets more focus as a series (of books, television, movies, games, etc.) progresses.  Nothing wrong with it.

Of the 9 companions in DAI, I'd say Dorian is the most likely candidate. He plans on going back to Tevinter after all this is over to try to make it better, and Tevinter is in the most likely location for the next game. All the other companions have too broad of outcomes for them showing up again to work as easily.

It works out well sometimes, but she's so bland and such a non-presence I can't possibly imagine why she is a fan favorite beyond the shallow cute factor.

My current bet is that the carry-over character won't be a companion, but another member of the Inquisition - specifically, Scout Harding.

Nooooo! I hope not :(  I know the forum will light me on fire now, but I never saw the appeal of a walking exposition-outlet, and am getting annoyed at her being shoe-horned into every DLC. I mean, JoH was understandable, but Descent, just for 2 lines?

Hmmm. This is very familiar. People felt the same way about Cullen.

Yeah, Scout Harding seems to have taken the role of the advisers, and I'm not a fan of that. Like with Descent they talk about Josephine giving us a report, when instead we could have simply had Josephine give us the report. But they sidelined her to give us more Harding.

That's sort of my issue too. I don't see her as a character so much as 'that scout that greets and briefs me in every region'. She's only slightly more remarkable than, ugh, the requisition officer.

Have you played JOH? Or talked to her at Skyhold?

Who? The requisition officer?  :P

I haven't played any DLC. I talked to Harding at Skyhold once, but afterwards I just forgot she was even there.

Scout Harding is already sort of romanceable, making her a companion wouldn't just be making her romanceable because of feedback, it would be properly finishing what they started in DAI. Not that I think they should only wait to DA 4 to do that.

I was pretty glad to see her back in Descent. Frankly, I wish she had come down with us instead of those other dwarves, I found them both much less interesting. I was certainly much more excited to see her than most anything else in that DLC, a lot of it was on the disappointing side.

I don't want to see any of them return. I don't want to see the Inquisition theme carried over. I don't want to see a Quizzy npc cameo.

I like Harding, but I don't even want to see her.

After hundreds and hundreds of hours, I've had my fill.

They felt he was a walking exposition-outlet, or that he was shoehorned into things? Just curious.

Exactly! I'd much rather have the advisors be able to do their jobs than just have Harding tell us everything and promptly disappear. They are indeed sidelining all of the advisors, even more than they were in the main game. I mean, I may grumble to myself, but I don't go around complaining about the advisors getting a bit less content in the main game, and besides, we can't change that now. But when they aren't in DLC (things that we can change before they come out), the gap becomes bigger, a lot of people miss their favourite characters and I get sad. And I will complain about that.

That's sort of my issue too. I don't see her as a character so much as 'that scout that greets and briefs me in every region'. She's only slightly more remarkable than, ugh, the requisition officer.

My thoughts exactly. I'd much rather see more of our Inner Circle than add a tiny bit more depth onto a nobody, if it's resources they're concerned about.

Only concerning companions, I could see Sera or Dorian as a possibility.

Well... Cass and Vivienne may have their hands tied.. Blackwall is killable, Bull and Cole both have opposite states they can be in. I do think we'll see Solas(or whoever's in control) but not as a companion.

So I'd guess it'd be Dorian or Sera. I would say no to Varric too since he's been in 2 games already but his story doesn't seem done to me.

I was hoping to see an Orzammar dwarf in DAI. We had some interesting banter between Sera and Solas or Solas and Vivenne due to them being from opposite sides of same coin. Banter between Varric and a Orzammar dwarf would have been gem.

If we are going to go away from the inquisition, nobody please. I'm okay with maybe having some be like wrex in me3, possible during certain missions if the story works with them. But I'd rather have a new team.

Not including Harding in Descent would have been odd since it was a DLC that centered around dwarves. She does talk to Cadash about Orzammar, but it's a dwarf-specific icon.

And given that Gaider mentioned in an interview that the original intent was for Morrigan to narrate the events of Dragon Age Origins as an old woman, she's the only character that I expect to return until old age claims the original cast.

At this point I feel like Cullen should be in all of them and he just has the misfortune of appearing everywhere that the latest threat to sentient beings appears. Maybe not as a key player but a character that's just like "**** my life man."

As for companions, I don't think so. The only thing I can see for Varric are codex entries in his future. He's already said he's not a fighter, and he has other things he could be doing besides using Bianca to kill people. She's taken enough lives. Cassandra, Vivienne and LelLara are gone because of the branches for the divine... Most of them don't really have much room for coming back outside of maybe Cole because his branches, while different aren't too radical.

Although, I'll be honest, I don't like the onslaught of cameos. It seems... So unnatural.

Companions from former games will undoubtedly show up but which ones depend greatly on the setting. Thus far there has been no confirmation that I'm aware of that states the location in DA4 and it is only SPECULATION that DA4 will be set in Tevinter. Please do not spread said SPECULATION as gospel.

I for one speculate that DA4 will take place in Northern Thedas, covering the areas of both Tevinter and The Anderfels, much like Inquisition covered both Ferelden and Orlais. The Anderfels are Tevinter's direct neighbor to the west. If this is indeed the case then Dorian is the strongest prospect for returning characters. Whether he approves, disapproves or Romances the Inquisitor he states in each scenario that he will return to Tevinter. That, in my opinion, is a pretty strong hint.

Varric also states that, regardless if you save Hawke or the Warden Companion, that he will travel to The Anderfels after Corypheus in defeated. Another strong hint and in my opinion long overdue considering the many hints and rumors about what the situation is in The Anderfels and among the Grey Wardens. I can't imagine this being ignored for much longer.

Other characters likely to return in my speculative Anderfels/Tevinter:

Anders/Justice: They are tied to several on-going story lines, most significantly in this context is the rumor that Justice is capable of essentially immunizing Anders from the Calling. There are other reasons but this s probably the most prominent.

Fenris: Depending on his fate he is either chasing/killing Tevinters or already there but re-brainwashed. He will be featured in a up-coming book or comic(I can't remember the details) so we will find out if he's headed north or already there.

Bethany/Carver: If they lived, Varric says the Warden sibling is near the Andefels.

Velanna: She has her own hints. In all but maybe two potential endings, Velanna either ends up disappearing in the Deep Roads or her body mysteriously vanishes. I think she may return as part of the Grey Warden story line.

Ellandra, Harding, Bernard, Michelle de Chevin, Rhys or Evangeline are all good possibilities for party member. Anyone else would be a cameo.

Michelle de Chevin can be killed by Imshael.

I would love to see Velanna again, but alas, she can be killed in Awakening shortly after meeting her.

EDIT: Also, in mine, Varric said he would return to Kirkwall. Weird.
