Hello, first off sorry if this has been discussed before, I searched for anything recent and came up empty.

Regarding my question, I recently started the multiplayer and have found the Elemetalist armor so now I wonder if I should upgrade that or unlock the Necromancer (since from what I understand it takes less upgrades to reach the purple level) so I was wondering if anyone with more experience could enlighten me on the matter.

If it was me I would unlock all classes that you can to start and then work on armour upgrades.

Unlock everything, nothing like using all your mats for a character you find out you dislike to play.

Before the recent armor buffs, I would say unlock all classes first since then you can get higher (more costly) versions to drop as loot. But with the armor buffs, upgrading armor is probably the easiest way to dramatically improve your gameplay.

So I say it's a toss up now. If you like the elementalist and see yourself playing him a lot then upgrade his armor now. You'll be able to go higher in difficulty and accelerate your progression.

When i recently restarted the game in the trial to see how the PC version was i found it much more profitable to first upgrade the armour of the classes you already have then to first unlock all classes. Upgrading your armour quickly means being able to jump into threatning and perilous quickly, which net you more money.

Both are true. But if you haven't played this game before it would be a nice idea to try out all the characters first to find the one you like, then upgrade their armour.

As of Ele or Necro, I would go for Ele because he is relatively easier to use. I still remember using Ele and Lego all the time in NM until I got my first 3 hakkon weapons. For those two, low promotions and lacking end game gear isn't the end of the world. (No one will count on Lego to be the dps king of the party... usually.)

If crafting mats are scarce, which I suppose they are (otherwise you wouldn't ask), i'd go for the elementalist. He has very good utility via firestorm/firewall and barrier, which you should be running if you're not overly promoted.

Armor upgrades now become very very good due to the armor buff, which might allow you to go up a difficulty if you're struggling. Necromancer has better damage imo, but she's very squishy, mainly because she's the only mage without barrier. I still occasionally die on perilous with best in slot gear for her, even though my stats are in the high 50's, while the elementalist can survive a lot better due to the cc/barrier he provides.

Thank you for the help guys, I decided to go for the Elementalist and loving it so far. One question though what item level would I need on my items to take the elementalist into a perilous run?

That all depends on what build you'd like to play but your highest DPS staff is generally the most important, if you're running barrier on your Ele then your barriers will be much stronger with a higher DPS staff. I'm no expert on the Ele but there's many build guides in the pinned resource library :)

Can you explain that? I might miss some theoriecrafting, but I cannot find something about higher dps staff pimping your barrier.

@OP: pimping your gear to the max (craft the highest tier as fast as possible) helps a lot to get into perilous faster. Getting a good friendlist and asking to join private lobbies also helps a lot. People are more willing to carry a player in private lobbies than in pugs.

I see thanks, will be a while till then sadly I can't seem to get a good staff for the life of me. The best I have now is a level 20 grey staff with some upgrades and a master spirit rune.

I have the purple elementalist armor right now is there something better if I craft the rest of the purple armors?

Purple (elementalist's inquisition warmage robes (endurance/fortitude/perseverence) is best indeed. All the same armor with different looks.

I think some ranged defense and perhaps cunning/willpower upgrades for the arms and legs might give you an additional boost.

I would say any unique around lv20 would be enough if you want to run FC on Perilous. But if it's any other maps you can probably get away with something lower (if you want to go in with a lv16 ish character).

As for an elementalist, if you are going for a crowd control build (i.e. Firestorm/firewall being your core skill) then you can pretty much get away with any staff so long as you can keep firestorm up and stay alive. You do plenty of contribution that way already even if your damage is low (likely chance is, you get some dps monsters in your lobby anyway).

In reality though, if you can just pick up pots, open doors and etc, and don't die too often, people probably don't care if it's just Perilous. Oh, and for the love of god don't keep pressing "over here" for the whole match if people decide to just skip a door or something. That's all you need to triumph in Perilous, honestly.

Is there a way to get a good staff out of some specific map perhaps while playing threatening or the only way to get something good is to hope the RNG Gods favor you at the roll when you open a chest?

Zero. Take firewall, death siphon and firestorm, and eventually get barrier. You won't need to DPS if you've roflstomped the enemy into the ground. Your team will finish them off.
