I liked ice queen Miranda better honestly. In ME3 she's this moron who does stuff behind the scenes and never does anything important aside from stumbling upon Horizon because "zomgz Ori!!!11."

I hate Traynor. Serves no purpose with both Liara and EDI on the ship. Useless for romance and forced on me despite this. None of my Sheps are gay, but I still like Cortez enough as a character to place him in the positive bar. And his banter with Joker, James, and Garrus is some of the best dialogue in the game.

Honorable mention to Kaidan, almost forgot that badass rant he goes on if you take him to Sanctuary. Killah Kaidan wanting to rip out TIM's throat ftw.

Traynor is better at her job than Liara as the Shadow Broker B)

And why is the romance forced? I play a FemShep currently and she wasn't forced on me at all.

True. I don't like how in ME3 she's reduced to a damsel in distress who dies way too easily, though I think her personality was done just right in the Citadel dlc.

She's a lot more capable in ME2, not to mention she's probably the best squadmate.

Useless for romance

Why? I like her romance unless you mean she's not available for male shep

and forced on me despite this.

When is Traynor forced on you? The only time is at the beginning when she tells Shepard about the retrofits

That's the problem. Her character could have easily been rolled into Liara and/or EDI. But Bioware chose to make Traynor seem useful as she was a character nobody asked for, and they damaged Liara's role as the Shadow Broker in the process. This made me resent and dislike her as a character.

Liara knows nothing about comms or the retrofits that were added to the Normandy. It would be forcing something on her that her background doesn't support.

If anything Liara would be more useful if she was sent to Hackett instead of being on the ship.

No problem for me. I like Traynor more, and she's a comm specialist.

Liara was made special enough as it is. I'm glad we got Traynor. But that's of course a matter of taste. Didn't work for you, but for me it was a good thing.

This isn't really on topic, but I knew going into ME that people didn't like Miranda but I just didn't know why. I can see why some wouldn't like her, but within the first hour or so of playing ME2 I just thought she was awesome. When you listen to whats-his-names logs when the Cerberus station is under attack, he's either jealous or infatuated with Miranda and angry that his affections are not being returned. I loved that she shot him with no hesitation, and my liking for her has only increased. She's my femshep's best friend and the love of my maleshep's life. She's my favorite character in the series, after Garrus of course. ;)

Traynor as a character feels forced on me. Me and my Shepards are all straight men. Couldn't stand the crap with her and EDI both in her intro scene and even moreso at the party. She may as well have a gigantic "I'm a lesbian, I like women :D !" sign sticking out her ass. No other ******/bisexual character is like that in ME.

Me and my FemShep are straight too and yet, she got harassed by Sha'ira (no touching! oh no.. goddamn, where's the renegade interrupt), stalked by Liara, spied on by Kelly, she got Morinth all hot and bothered without too much effort, she got Miranda's chest/butt camera eventhough her eyes was on her face, Shiala and Gianna get the "see you later" sexy subtext, she got hit on by Allers... ... She might as well have a "I like c*ck!" tattooed on her face and the game still assume you want to see girl-on-girl action....

Traynor would only hit on FemShep if she was always nice and complimentary to her (as oppose to being formal and treating her like a crew). Otherwise there won't be a shower scene, Traynor knows her boundary if her boss want nothing to do with her.

I tried a default playthrough of ME3 and it made me realize how much I liked the ME2 characters who were missing. My favourite was Grunt covered in Racni goo asking for something to eat  :D.

In ME3 I thought it was innovative the way James' history was introduced by the "talk and dance" scene. I liked him right away. Also he's pretty funny when playing with a FemShep character. Too bad the rest of the crew are just standing around doing nothing during dialogue.

I rolled my eyes at Jack because she just seemed like walking eye candy at first. They were trying to make her all bad-ass super biotic, but then she had that ridiculous outfit and a full face of makeup. And then I realized that was just every chick from ME2 in general and it wasn't her fault.

Her character grew on me (Nana from Nana!) and I loved the dynamic she had with my Paragon FemShep. I wanted to pursue the romance with her... and then she said she didn't play for the girl's team. :crying: I enjoyed her character arc by the third game too, even if it's a little odd that the Alliance would take an ex-convict to teach biotics to their most valued students.

In another universe, my FemShep would have left Kaidan for Jack... bizarro.

Probably Vega and Javik.

Prior to the release of Mass Effect 3 neither of the character concepts seemed interesting to me. I was opposed to bringing the Protheans back, and both the released screenshot and character description of Vega made him seem like a dull meathead.

When the game finally released I was pleasantly surprised to find that I liked both of these characters. Javik is among my favorites for the series, and Vega would be my choice for the best human companion character that Bioware created.

Maybe Liara and Garrus as well. I never disliked either character, unlike my initial reaction to Javik and Vega, but I sort of found them both largely uninteresting in Mass Effect 1. 'Meh' would sum up my reaction to both. Both grew on me as the series progressed however, and I'd consider them, along with Javik..to be my favorite companion characters in the series.

It might sound strange to some, but I actually like Udina more than I used to.

Basically all 3 games scream to you: "Just look at this a-hole! He's an annoying, power-hungry politician and you shall hate him, which is a good thing because he will turn out to be evil as well!"
While I'm just "meh" about it all. Sure, he has his douche-y moments (like grounding the normandy in me1), but nothing he does makes me really hate him (not even the cerberus coup, because it was so badly done, I guess). It seems to me he tries his best to have humanity gain more recognition from the other species. Even if it means kissing their asses from time to time. Subsequent playthroughs just made me realise more that he - as a person - is actually trying his best for humanity, but the game tries its best to portrait politicians as useless and ignorant fools (by ignoring the reaper threat etc.) and soldiers as the heroes who get **** done.
Sure, Udina's not one of my favorite characters and never will be, but he's interesting in a way and they could've done so much more to explain his actions in me3 other than "he's evil and was working with cerberus al along durr!" instead of showing his growing desperation to save his home planet and species, and frustration in losing his friends and colleagues when the reapers destroyed the Alliance parliament.

That's kinda what I meant in my post as well. Up until the coup, Udina is one of the more interesting characters. He is firmly pro-earth without being an anit-alien Cerberus fanatic. He knows how to play politics and he doesn't suck up to Shepard and Anderson like almost everyone else does.

Sure, he is a douche bag but you get his motivations and especially after the council meeting in the beginning of ME3, when you talk to him in his office, he and Shep can have a very nice conversation, basically, two guys who don't necessarily like each other but have a mutual respect and are linked by the horrors that befell humanity. That was a cool place to be in with him. Why oh why did he have to get shoved into the Cerberus/indoctrination corner?

Well, actually, we know why, it's because BW ran out of time and had to move the coup to an earlier point in the game. If the coup happened after Thessia, it could even have made sense from Udina's perspective. At least there would be a reason for him to loose it.

Also, why did he dye his hair black? He and Bailey look much better with grey hair :):

I agree, the conversation in the beginning of me3 with Udina is by far the best interaction you get with him in the whole trilogy. Makes me wish they put as much effort into the rest of his personal storyline. I like me3 in general, but clear unfinished/rushed storylines like these make me sad.

And Udina having pitch-black hair in me3 never made sense to me (just like Bailey's sudden change to a darker blonde). Did BW suddenly decided he should dye his grey hair? Was it a simple mistake? Even if it was a programming error or something, it doesn't seem like something that isn't easily fixable. Too bad it's up to the fans to fix inconsistancies like these. Your haircolour fixes look great by the way.

Although I spared her in Mass Effect I didn't really like Ashley until 3

Maybe because she got hotter, but I also think her story line was better done than in the first two.

Basically a good person but a bit of a racist, flawed but still inherently good

I actually felt bad when Eva nearly killed her on Mars (fyi I played as a FemShep)

Forgot about Vega. I didn't like him at all at first, partly because I thought he was a poor stand in for  my boys Wrex and Grunt. However the big lug did win me over after a while with his corny ways.

I like the dynamic between him and Cortez too, just two good buds, sexual preferences not-withstanding. My favourite line between those two was during the Citadel Party.

James: "Stick with me bud. In school I was a party legend, they called me 'party Vega'."

Cortez: "Yeah, that's .. a little lame."

And with Javik on the subject of everything being 'punishable by death in the Empire',

James is like,  "Uhm, that sounds .. reasonable."

I love this conversation, but you forgot the best part :P ;)

After Cortez says it's lame James answers: "I ran with a simple crowd." I f*cking love this guy. He's got too many good lines to count.

Him and Javik during missions is damn great. Btw, if you haven't tried it yet... Citadel DLC without Wrex and take these two with you. No, scrap that, take them everywhere! :D

In terms of being won over - James and Cortez, largely because both defied the stereotype that it would have been easy to label them with.

Liara, I liked from the off, and despite minor irritations along the way, that never really changed.
