I haven't seen it talked about anywhere so I thought I would point out something I noticed while playing through the latest DLC.

I actually made an effort to read through all of the lore as I went and found this set of codices very interesting. The reason it stood out to me so much is because I had just been playing on my level 12 reaver the day before and had spoken with Cassandra about my decision to become a reaver.

Take a look at this video (from 0:20 onwards): https://www.youtube....h?v=PtEMDfCu0bs

Then read this section of the codex I linked earlier:

In the flame's light, we saw a man's body like those of the Imperium humans, but covered in scales. It wore armor and even had a dagger hanging from its hip. Its jaws wrapped around Drohg's face and twisted. The crunch of his neck breaking seemed to echo down the Deep Roads. The torch fell from his hands, and we lashed out.

I swung my axe will all my might, but it bounced off the Scaled One's armor, the impact ricocheting up my arms. It let out a roar. Then more attacked. From the light of the fallen torch, I guessed there was a score of them, all wearing armor and carrying weapons as sharp as their teeth and talons. The one that killed Drohg barked orders I didn't understand. I kept swinging.

The rest of the codex is pretty interesting (and gruesome). It talks about how these "scaled ones" were performing some kind of blood ritual. This entire DLC brought a lot of attention to blood magic in my opinion (lyrium being titan "blood") and I just thought this added to the mystery of it all.

Do you think there's a connection to what Cassandra said about the stories of people changing from consuming dragon blood and what the dwarves encountered in the deep roads? Could these scaled ones have something to do with the corruption of the old gods?

PLEASE, speculate away! (seriously, I love reading lore speculation)

Personally, and with little evidence, I think it's describing the kossith. They seem like the most likely new race to appear, especially after Iron Bull's discussion about them, and the whole "Those across the Sea" war table chain. It's heavily implied that the qunari have traits in common with dragons, and they may have been created as some sort of cross-breeding experiment. Or rather, the kossith were, and the qunari came from them. Having scales seems like something that would happen not only to reavers, but the progenitors of the qunari.

That's my guess, anyway ^_^
