No, they drink it in a ritual similar to the wardens joining, and it carry on.

Cassandra specified that many of her family (The Pentaghasts) became Reavers but went mad in the process. She says this madness was due to their greed. They abused this consumption and the more they drank the more they lost themselves. She goes on to say that this madness led some to go as far as murder their entire family. She also states the abuse led to physical deformities and abnormalities. They started growing scales out of their skin as well as other growths of that nature (horns possibly?) which also came with a penchant for escalating violent reactions during events that were worthy of minor irritations at best. She also claims that these accounts might have been exaggerated somewhat, as most stories do as time passes, however she also believes there is at least a basis of truth in the tale. Take that for what you will, but maybe your PC should hold off drinking too much of the stuff, lest he decides to murder his inner circle... as well as his love interest. Just saying ![]()

This reminds me of the mysterious 'scaled ones' mentioned in various codex entries in the Decent. At first i thought they were the Kossith, but perhaps they were reavers gone mad.

FIrst off, your profile pic is awesome, second, yes many people have speculated this much given that exact quote told by Cassandra. It's hard to say whether or not they were Kossith given the first Kossith to arrive in the Korcari Wilds from across the Northern Sea were described as horned humanoids. The scaled ones were described as scaled humanoids who looked like the "Tevinter Humans" from the surface (described by a Dwarven warrior). There was no mention of horns. Also there are depictions of Serpentine humanoids in the Emerald graves who look like what was describe which also have no horns. Another point of contention is as far as we know, Kossith only arrived from across the Northern sea in -410 ancient, which was at least 500 years after the Dwarves encountered the scaled ones.
This however, doesn't say much. Kossith might be a culture rather than a race, they could also have been altered with magic or dragon's blood through different means than that of the "Qunari" race. we also have know way of knowing if the accounts recorded in ancient times were accurate or if the Kossith came before. Blood was used in a type of ritual by those scaled humanoids encountered in the deep roads however, where they worshiped an alter of flames and talked in a strange language. They could be a Tevinter sect which drank dragon's blood or they could be an entirely different race. They could even be the first reavers who worshipped the Old God Toth... Anyways, I'm way off topic from the Op's question so lets end it at that.
