There was a quirk about kill XP in DAO whereby if the Warden gets the kill shot they would get 2XP more for the kill. I rushed through DA2, so I never looked to see if this was happening there, but now I think I'm seeing in DAI that, if the Herald gets the kill, the "+#XP" shows up with the XP bar on top, while if any other party member gets the kill shot, it just shows the XP bar (without a "+#XP" attached to it). I'm just wondering if that's reflecting the same game mechanic as DAO or if it's similar or what. I really shouldn't ask since I'll end up scrutinizing every kill to make sure my Herald gets the last hit (as I did for every bloody character in DAO), but... I'm curious...
I'm not sure how that mechanic is rationalized on a metagame basis either- to deprive players who let the rest of the party do the work? to dissuade players from creating support/tank characters that do less damage? to encourage player killshot hogging? Dunno.
Also does shattering from freeze spells negate any kill XP gain? This is another thing I think I'm noticing (maybe not)- i.e., that the XP bar doesn't show at all on shatter kills.
I know- XP gain is apparently generally so high in DAI that it hardly matters, but still...
