No one is in a position to get into a fight with Russia because of their nukes. The same way no one is in a position to fight the US(Even without our nukes, our complete and utter naval dominance renders us untouchable).

A US Russia conflict will turn nuclear the second our armored divisions enter Russia, and that would happen very quickly once we establish air superiority. And then the world ends. I see lots of guys saying how we could beat Russia easily, and well its only true if you ignore their nuclear arsenal. Nukes render you immune to invasion.

indeed. there will be no open war between Russia and US of A. Only Nuclear Strikes. This why, ironically, Russia is a very safe place right now.

However, #thanksObama, in 2016, Russia will become even more of a police state, than it is now.

This is a defensive move.

Defensive move? *sigh* look Russian military budget is 10 times smaller than NATO's. Not to mention military budget of US of A. Crimeria was taken only because of access to the Black Sea. And this is why i pay increased taxes for this territory.

Nobody really wants to get into a nuclear war, and the US wont directly invade Russia out of fear of making them desperate and unleashing their nukes on the world. I'm talking about fighting over lands that aren't Russia or the USA.

I still don't think you're in a great position to get into a traditional war over something like Bulgaria. This is basically just a small show of force to claim Bulgaria in hopes that Putin is also too scared to get into full out open warfare which will very likely include nukes being launched at some point.

Plus, historically invading Russia doesn't tend to end very well for people even without factoring in nukes. Unless of course you are the Mongols, who are the exception to a lot of things =P

Its unfortunate, I will agree. Especially since there really is a need for cooperation between us, especially at times like this. Neither sides leadership is blameless for the shift in relations. I will not fully blame the current administration in the white house for this, just as I wont fully blame the kremlin. Its equal parts. We cant be seen as ignoring our allies who get restless in eastern europe, and so the game continues.

The thing is even if we arent in a great position for it now(debatable, considering the equipment build up which has occurred in the last two years) we would have to respond. Otherwise every alliance we have dissolves. Its a show of support and camaraderie.

Historically, yes Russia has been pretty badass. But the Russia of today is a different beast all together, her population is no longer huge, and not so spread out. They still have spirit and nationalism though, which is healthy. My point is, if you take nukes out of the equation a NATO Russia war would be the end of Russia. It would be broken up into many smaller countries, or absorbed by its neighbors.

ahhhh.... yes. but we will see about that in the next 10-20 years.

The question i have - is uncle Vova actually doing something for Russia, or he is just stealing. Looks like he is actually doing something.

Because army now is a very popular and overall good choice for young people. My army of 2nd Chechen War and Army of modern Russia are two different armies. Also i've been on Army 2015 expo, and i must say Ak12 is a damn good weapon. Much better than outdated Ak74.

As for the rest of country... I find this ironic that a country so huge as Russia can't produce enough of meat (for example) and forced to buy it from other countries. Internal market, factories, manufacture, farming are still ****ed.

And country still depends on export of raw resources like oil. *eyeroll*

This is a defensive move. This small force is not meant to move on Russia, its to defend in case of aggression and buy time for a larger response, and to train alongside the bulgarians military to deepen ties between our armed forces.

also dont forget that ISIS is just on the other side of Turkey

I wasn't saying that NATO shouldn't respond to an attack on one of our members, that's part of the treaty is that we all have to help. I'm saying that the US itself isn't in a great place to get into another ground war in my opinion.

Even then, an attack on Bulgaria means that every NATO nation has to send help which as you mention Russia can't stand up to without help from somebody else(most likely to be China, but they're not likely to get involved unless it's a full out war). This move just seems like the American military wanting to wave their hardware around, especially considering that their token force wouldn't stop a serious invasion force without reinforcements anyway.

I say historically invading Russia hasn't ended well because it has been tried in the past and armies have a habit of failing to capture it. It has a good deal to do with the harsh environment that makes up much of the country, which a technological advantage can only do so much about.

technological advantage is a thing to argue about.

I hope this doesn't get past the ominous stage. Scary Stuff.

Is anyone else detecting a distinct under playing of this story here in the USA?

You know how Stalin ordered Russia's best scientists to create their nuclear weapons after that blast on Hiroshima. It was to show that the Soviet Union would not be intimidated. The political effect of Hiroshima was to reinforce a sense in Stalin's mind of the need to be very tough-minded in dealing with the West because any concession would be taken as a sign of weakness. And that's how the Cold War happened, a political clash between capitalistic West and communistic East.

As a guy in the know on this topic, let me just say this:

The U.S. really doesn't give a crap. I, for one (and once), agree.

It's freaking Eastern Europe. Who the hell cares?

Ftfy.

Also:

Should be mandatory to watch for WW2 tank fans. The love for authenticity (aside from that one instance of tank drifting and a nitro-boosted Porsche Tiger) is strong in that anime. Besides, the marches, oh boy. The MARCHES!!!
