They are slow and you can just freeze/panic them or whatever. Just run away till youre ready to fight them.

Never run, never back down... Inquisition OOH RAH...

Yeah, I think a tweak on the Bolter's long range damage is in order. First time we ran into bolters, they killed us all. 2nd try, we barely succeeded, but... a of hiding. Tanks hiding. And the sheer damage output in wave 5 is... kinda ridiculous. I was in a group where other Perilous matches were little trouble, but Darkspawn slaughtered us on wave 5 in seconds. This was a significant jump up in overall difficulty than any other Perilous match.

Emissary Alpha:

- has 6 attacks:

  1. Standard fire bolt throw (fire damage)
  2. Fire explosion when you get close (2 second activation delay + knockdown)
  3. Beam attack (spirit + physical damage)
  4. Lyrium lunge attack (physical damage)
  5. Summon Lyrium wall attack (spirit damage + knockdown, doesn't require LoS)
  6. Rapid-fire (fire damage)

- can cast 2 mobility skills:

  1. Dodge backwards
  2. Teleport

- can cast Barrier on himself:

  • When Barrier is active, any ally within a 4m AoE of the Emissary Alpha will get the Chilled status, effectively reducing movement/attack speed by 25%.
  • Barrier doesn't change the Emissary Alpha's behavior
  • Internal cooldown still undetermined but I'll make a wild guess and say 30s

Sha-Brytol Earthshaker:

- has 3 attacks:

  1. Basic attack: A translucent projectile attack that hits for nature damage
  2. If you get close to the Earthshaker, he will do a "stomp attack" that hits twice for nature damage and knockdown anything it hits. Attack is not avoidable by jumping.
  3. If you get far, the Earthshaker will jump and do a body slam, creating Lyrium fissures in the ground that are similar to elemental mines. Touching these mines when they are "thrown" deals nature damage, and when they explode as well.

Sha-Brytol Revered Defender:

- While he has an AI similar to the Venatori Brute: he will not go in Rampage and only has two attacks.

  1. Basic attack: Hammer swing
  2. If you're far away, he will charge towards you like the Venatori Brute. His charge attack will knockdown and has quite a big range despite not looking like it does

Sha-Brytol Stone Stalker:

- Venatori Stalker re-skin

Sha-Brytol Bolter:

- has 2 attacks:

  1. Rapid-fire, which possibly has some armor penetration to it, but unconfirmed.
  2. Blast attack which can knockdown

I second the complaint about the Dwarf Crossbowmen. Yes, it is all a matter of l2p and they can very well be defeat with the right tactic, but it is a fact that they are disconnectedly more threatening than anything else on the battlefield.

Moreover I will say, I enjoyed fighting the actual Darkspawn, and I enjoyed the Sha-Brytol guardians (yet from a different perspective; the ground) but the Dwarves primarily seem out of place.

Why not have them be two new factions instead? They both have enough units of each flavour on their side to keep it entertaining enough.

The guardians are Collectors 2.0 anyways, in which they are the technologically advanced people with glowy eyes, who kinda shouldn't be here; yet we accept them as metagame wildcards because they are a considerably greater challenge than the "normal factions".

Darkspawn is a two-in-one faction. One consists of random creatures and the other of dwarves (Sha-Brytol, lost dwarves). You won't ever see dwarves grouped with creatures in mp.

Addressing this part.  Just ran a map of Tevinter ruins with Sha-Brytol and deepstalkers.  Also, a shriek as the targetted enemy.

Edit to add:  Zone 1-3 darkspawn (one zone also had hyenas), Zone 4 Sha-Brytol + deepstalkers and a shriek.

I meant Sha-Brytol + creatures (= hurlocks, genlocks, emissaries), not creatures from destruction DLC

Like fiddzz said it's possible that the enemy from a kill event is grouped with the other faction. the way it works is that the kill event leaks a heavy mob from the higher wave into the current wave

Ah!  Got it.  No Sha-Brytol + darkspawn, with that one exception.  I was thinking creature creatures not darkspawn creatures.

There is a hurlock(guard) present in zone 1, however I have only ever seen one spawn per game.

I propose that mobs now do 500%-250% per rank on the leaderboard with a minimum of 100% damage.

They have a lot more hp. I was surprised. And the "lost dwarf" faction is pretty tough. I like the new addition.

It's like the time back then Collectors faction was added to ME3MP. First, people complained about how op they was, but then just dealt with it.

Thats because you have played the game to the point where everything is ridiculously easy. Your problem, not anyone elses.

The earthshakers have stupid amounts of HP. I almost died of old age while hacking one to death. Way to ruin a killstreak.

Also, which unit has that wallhack knockdown? Sure, it was our favourite feature from the Demon faction, but I demand they own up.

DC... er... Emissary Alpha... EA explodes on death, which is nice. EA blowing up. Is biower trying to tell us something?

They are silently rebelling against their corporate overlords.

The collectors were nerfed though. ;)

It is a fact and I don't believe anyone can dispute it that the Darkspawn in their current condition are tougher than the other factions. They should either be brought a bit more to other factions level OR if Bioware wishes to do so to make the game more difficult, buff the other factions.

My main gripe is mainly with the cross-bolters and the emissary alpha. Now, the EA is not so bad but I just cannot fathom why BW basically did a Despair Demon boss (they are despair demons/AH in essence, just with another element instead of cold and a different skin). Because who doesn't love being staggered/knockdowned/killed from the other end of the map with no line of sight?

The cross bolters are just insane, depending on the way you get them to spawn. On Perilous I was playing archer (carefully and conservatively) so on Elven ruins I peaked around the corner for a LS... insta death. Best armor, health belt... I understand that the archer is fickle but there are ways to mitigate that (Fallback plan), however how am I supposed to fallback from insta death?   I can understand that for shadows (however even they are not insta death and you have a second to move away before being killed these days) but cross bolters are in essence shadows from a distance! Also, just so that you can have some extra fun, since they fire pellets instead of just one shot, they eat all your elusive stacks AND start eating at your health right away on Izzy. Because who needs Elusive anyway?

P.S. Also before a l2p comes, I can play them just fine. They are just not particularly fun (cross bolters especially). Also do you know that pugs are already avoiding them? I've had a few games today where we start the game and the pugs leave if Darkspawn gets picked.

However, I'll still say thanks to BW for adding a new faction. We definitely needed a fourth one. :)

Honestly there needs to be something more than that. Something that allows players to limit promotions or something, since the gamer becomes trivial when you promote beyond 150.

Now Isabella isn't the only one who can spam Bolt all day :D

I have only played 4 matches with Darkspawn so far, 2 in Orlais and 2 in FC (4 different perilous PUGs). One successful run in Orlais, both FC runs failed at wave 4.

The new enemies are interesting, especially the Emissaries, but the Bolters, ugh.

In one match an AW had no trouble keeping Barrier up and didn't lose much health. Then a Bolter shot at him (i think it was only one) and he was almost dead.

In both FC matches we tried to bunker up in the usual room. In the second match we went outside once we thought most enemies were dead but then died really fast (i blame the Bolters :D).

I agree there is a l2p issue as well but for most perilous PUGs i played with since the armor buff, bunkering up in FC wave 4 wasn't necessary anymore.

I don't mind a harder faction but the Bolters seem to be too strong so far.

Yeah, they may need a nerf since the Darkspawn can appear randomly. I was running with some decently equipped players through Perilous last night (they at least had the wherewithal to have the highest tier armor) and it was challenging for them but we extracted against every other faction twice. They rarely died if at all on some runs. Then the Darkspawn appeared. My team members were killed at least once or twice per zone and by 4 even I succumbed to their numbers. Their health pools seemed double or triple that of the other factions and they had CC immunity in one form or another and they had a ton of stuns/knockdowns that they used liberally.

I enjoyed the frantic pace of combat, but it struck me that the difficulty seemed a few steps too high compared to the other factions with consideration to the fact that there's an equal chance of running into them and there's no unique reward for beating them (I'm assuming, anyway). All else being equal, it seems weird that they alone require better tactics, equipment, and stats than the other factions (this is probably more noticeable if you pug often at least).

Glad to see them, but maybe have their health or armor tuned down a bit. Felt like I was fighting an army of dogs.

Perhaps leave them as they are, but make the factions selectable with Darkspawn giving extra XP and gold if possible?

My one run against them was frustrating with all the knockdowns.

Didn't seem so bad - apart from the bolters in the Descent DLC for some reason. But then again my SP characters have top gear I suppose and more skill points with which to build.

Jeez, darkspawn out for barely a day and people calling for a nerf?! Really the bolters are the only dangerous mob and it is not like they hit you with unavoidable cheap damage. Just find cover and let them come to you.
