An Alistair thread in a DAI forum? This is like a dream come true for me

As much as I loved Alistair in DAO (and romanced him every time I played) I much prefer his DAI looks. I don't know how much this has to do with the fact that I'm in my 30s and therefore prefer someone who looks the same age rather than a 20 year old. But I think the lines under his eyes and stuff are great because it shows he's been through a lot in the past 10 years. Also he always struck me as being like a public schoolboy and someone quite immature and dependent on others (asking wynne to sew up his clothes etc.). But by the time he's in his 30's he would've obviously had all the public schoolboyness knocked out of him, whether he becomes king or not (This is another reason why I prefer to harden him in dao because he loses some of it then and grows a bit of a backbone). I know he has less screen time in DaI but I think that when you talk to him as a warden he is so much more mature but still has the funny, romantic personality that is so likable.

I about puked when I saw the DA2 Alistair.  :crying:   That Alistair looks like the bartender at the Hanged Man and that was not a good look for him. It took me a little bit to get used to the DA3 Alistair but now that's my favorite look for him.  :)

Lol , same ! When I saw him in DA2 I couldn't believe it was him , he looked like a drag queen :P In DAI he does look a little better , I think they tried to make him look older and maybe a little sick since the Blight will kill him at some point :/

Alistair has definitely aged very well. Although he is King in my definitive world state, I looked up the footage of the one where he is a Warden and I must say, seeing him in those Warden blues pretty much made me lose the ability of coherent speech. I mean, DAYUM.

Makes me curious - I am fully aware of the various "states" in which Alistair can be in different playthroughs, but, considering the fact that Dragon Age is the story of the world of Thedas that takes place across a long period of time, wouldnt it be interesting to bring companions from previous games back as companions again? And I dont mean like Varric - his return is pretty much the immediate continuation of his story from DA2. I mean with a gap of one or two games, at least a decade of in-game years, to see how much they have changed from those wide-eyed, inexperienced adventurers. People change with time, it would be nice to juxtapose their "new" character against the "old" one we used to know. Are their views still the same? Are their personalities? (Did they suddenly stop being annoyingly sassy kids and OHMYGODSWHATISRIGHTWITHYOURFACE) Yes, we got to talk to these returning people for a bit in Inquisition, but a full-blown companion with extensive dialogue and banter - as I said, they are pretty much a wholly different character at that point. I dont think it would hurt at all. Just a thought.

They're not mine, I just found them on google images. So help yourself! And here are a couple more:

Spoiler

I wasn't really fond of him until this game.

The second picture looks exactly like one I took this playthrough. Probably a coincidence though...

Edit: Nah, not the same. Here's mine anyway :P

Spoiler

Good old DA:O grin B)

I don't know about it, I'm 24 but I really prefer him in the DAI version, I liked him in DAO because of his personality (so soooo sweet), I didn't like his design, I liked Duncan's most, as well as King Cailan.

First thing first, everybody in DAO look a lot younger than their age, engine limitations, modeling limitations and lack of bump maps (stop being so silky smooth!!) and DAI is a lot more realistic, DAO feels a bit plastic.

But maybe I like older looking men? I don't know, I AM pretty bonkers for Solas  .

I appreciate Alistair’s look in DA:I. I think it fits him, I do think he looks like a man in his early 30’s, which is supposed to be his age, and I prefer this look than his younger one in DA:O . In my opinion, in DA:O he doesn’t seem as young as he is supposed to be.

I like how he looks in DA:I  however I know he doesn’t have a perfect physiognomy, but these ‘flaws’,  long nose, small eyes, etc…. gives him strong facial features, easily recognizable. He is not depicted as some standard handsome guy with a perfect face,  worthy of a Disney’s prince….  But  In my opinion,  this ‘imperfection’ makes him handsome.

Also the way he is described as a character makes him attractive, and we can see Alistair still is pretty much the same that his younger self  (I hope a little more mature), being a warden or  being a king (his old himself shows in the request  to the Inquisitor in the war table…. I’m still laughing from the transcription of his scribes :D )

Alistair is actually the only DAO companion I haven't downloaded a mod for.  I think he looked fine in vanilla.  Once I got some better skin textures he looked perfect.

You should try the Maricstair one, it's something else imo

To be fair, I went a bit OTT with the mods even changing Barkspawn into a wolf. It's like my companions were all trying to outdo each other with their hair and outfits apart from oghren who was too drunk to care.

I'll check it out!

I may get the wolf!Barkspawn one.  I have a Mahariel who would love that.

I love how every companion had a ton of mods except for Oghren.  It's the modders just go 'nope.  You're perfect just the way you are'.

Ah! My heart! I didn't know he could respond to the warden's letter *chest clutch*

His voice is practically breaking! I can't believe I missed seeing this moment! I wish King Alistair got to express his love like this *sigh*.

The Warden's letter and his response is why Hawke stays in the Fade.

As an aside, IMO Alistair's  so called "whining" and  so called "dependence" on others was a calculated  ruse to get people to do stuff for him.... and it worked! The sign of a true King!

Hawke is dead in the fade somewhere in my game... (Sorry, Anders, I love Alistair more then you, and then I love Cullen the most) but I had to choose between my Alistiar romancer, Warden Amell, or my inquisitor, Anastasia Trevelyan, a Cullen romacer, I'd choose Amell.... With great sadness becuase I don't want either blondes getting sad, but Cullen would react so much worse to his loves death then Alistair ever would (Alistair would starve himself, I'm not sure what Cullen would do, but I'm gonna guess, go back on Lyrum and give up on life) Also, I would hate Bioware If they did that...

I like how a thread that started as a place to complain about his looks has turned into his DAI fan thread.

It's weird there seems to be a sudden resurgence of love for Alistair. I noticed people have been posting on his DAO thread quite a bit and someone created a mod giving him battle scars http://www.nexusmods...tion/mods/746/?

I think at least some of it has to do with his character development by DA:I.  Don't get me wrong: I liked Alistair in DA:O.  I romanced him with my canon Warden.  But dear Maker did I want to punch him sometimes.  By DA:I he's snarkier and more jaded, but he's also a lot more mature.  The new engine certainly doesn't hurt either

My headcanon for King Alistair's slightly bloated look in DA2 is that it's the result of sneaking into the larder at midnight to snack on cheese.

He'd slimmed down again by Inquisition after either Anora, the female Warden or the kitchen staff in the royal palace finally put their foot down and installed multiple padlocks on the pantry door.

What about Warden Alistair's puffy look and bad habit of forgetting he's in a relationship with the love of his life?

My Amell went out of her way to find him extra darkspawn to kill, so that'd he'd get exercise and loose weight so then he becomes DAI Warden Alistair becuase of her.

Well, it's always good to be in shape if you're going to venture into the Deep Roads.

(And for those who read any innuendo into that sentence, you are bad and you should feel bad)

And as for the 'I forgot who you are, even though your my romance' in DA2. My Amell probaly was like "You lied to my cousins face, and then gave her my jewelry? Alistair!!" Then Alistair made up a excuse, and then she goes on to saying, "I'm sorry, I would not have given her my jewelry, plus you barely knew her! You also messed up with all 'yeah, I'm in love with her and all but I'm still giving you her stuff.'"

In my case, I still have Alistair very present, because actually he is still pretty new to me. I got introduced to DA more than two years ago with DA:II, because I had finished one of the Mass Effect games and I was going through withdrawal, and I wanted something similar to forget the game. In that moment, in the stores was available DA:II so I bought it and I liked it. When I heard about a new DA, I was eager to buy it, but before play it  I preferred to find and play the first game, DA:O, so I found it in a 2nd hand store last November and I started to play it.

The first Alistair I had met was the king in DA:II, I remember, after the conversation (kind of surrealist) with him,  I thought what a strange man is this king!, and however I heard he was one of the main companions of the first game, I didn’t give him any significance.

When I started to play DA:O, at the beginning I didn’t like him at all (always complaining... too childish... I thought he was a kind of silly), but whenever I was playing I started to enjoy this character every more and more…, until  he became my favorite character ). After playing DA:O, I played DA:II (again) and  DA:inquisition in a row, and I have to say, as a character and as a LI, I liked him more better than any of the other ones of the saga, and I like it better his more mature one in DA:Inquisition. My Hawke finished the game single (no, I didn’t like Fenris, neither Anderson), and my Trevelyan Inquisitor finished the game with Cullen, by exclusion of the others candidates.
