Pazaak and Quasar were so much fun.  A lot of that seems to have gotten lost as of late and it's a damned shame in my opinion.  It made the game worlds seem so much more alive.  Competing in races or fighting in the dueling ring in Kotor were always welcome distractions for me.  It allowed me to immerse myself in the world I was playing in and gain some bragging rights in the process.  The Citadel DLC brought some of that back, but I don't want it to end there.

The Witcher 3 is a great example of this sort of thing.  There were fighting tournaments, horse races, and, most notably, Gwent, which was a surprisingly fun card game that could be played with just about any NPC.  It was nice to take a break from the typical gameplay with these fun activities.

You know what would have been more fun than watching yourself and your party play Wicked Grace together in Inquisition?  Actually playing Wicked Grace with them, especially if Bioware added some of their more modern touches.  Imagine playing Wicked Grace and listening to your companions bantering as they play against one another, while your dialogue wheel gives you the option to play it straight or try to bluff.  It could at least be more fun than a game where winning or losing is determined by a choice on the dialogue wheel.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to see these fun side activities come back better than ever.

I've always said we need a bar to chill out. For SP AND MP.

Fully agree. I hope the success of Citadel DLC will convince Bioware that these very simple activities have a surprisingly big influence on player immersion. I would say from development perspective it should be smart decision to include them: small effort, huge positive effect. Sometimes we players just love the minor things, occasionally even more than all the big epic stuff... :)

Chilling out in a bar would be a great pre-game lobby for MP.  Clink some drinks as you wait to be shot down to some alien planet where you'll likely die more than once.

That's what I am hoping as well.  These little details really help the player embrace not only the heroic side of your character, but the personal side as well.  Like Varric said, "It's easy to forget that you're not just an icon or symbol."  There's more to our characters than just saving the world or fighting a war, and the game should reflect that.

Instead of Texas Hold 'Em, maybe Batarian Hold 'Em (slight reference to holding slaves), or Scillian Blitz. But yeah, a bar and poker sounds nice.

Good idea to have places to unwind.

But, Bio, make it clear it's not a side quest.

I would love to see a kick ass card game. Like "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's" card game gwent.

Some sort of card game would be great. Gwent in the The Witcher 3 was a lot of fun.

How about a Mass Effect version of something like Spades? Given Bioware's focus on characters it might be fun if the minigame involved a partnership with a companion, who had some dialogue throughout.

That is if the resources are there of course. Any minigame is ultimately an extra, no matter how fun.

Anyone remember this?

That side-game was probably more entertaining than FFVIII itself!

Wouldn't mind a few Mass Effect related card games, sport games, and table top games.  That could even have multiplayer aspects like this game...

I don't think Mass Effect NEEDS something like this, but it does add to the immersion and the Citadel arcade was pretty fun. Now that I'm thinking about it, it is a bit strange that you never had the option to play card games with the crew (aside from that one time with Gabby and Ken). I mean, military life is dull almost all the time, and especially when a large portion of it is spent traveling. That said, if they added some kind of game like Pazaak, I'd probably only play it once and move on.

Agreed!

A working bar? What exactly is that?

The ME trilogy had plenty of bars where you could order drinks (that is my understanding of a working bar) and on the Normandy you could even mix stuff (not that it amounted to anything). So I am curious what you mean here.

BTW, ME3 got so many mini games and diversions with Citadel, I felt it was bit much to be honest. If they want to go with mini games again, I'd rather they go for one or two good ones, rather then 10, that I all try once.

Only if you prevented the STD like spread of terrible regional rules. Which ultimately, you can't (or I couldn't).

Honestly, Gwent is giving me stress flashbacks to this. I hate it. Just do regular old poker or something similar. I guess pazaak wasn't too bad in KoTOR.

And for god's sake, don't make it mandatory, ever.

For extracurricular activities, my votes would be chess, poker, training Sims (combat and vehicular), and archeological study if you would please, Bioware. Also a verbal loading screen that plays the codex would be good.

Chess and poker would be a good sync for dialogue or characterization that may go otherwise missed or cut due to narrative or resource constraints. Example, what if there were a poker game in the first NMass Effect. Perhaps, Kaidens sexuality might have been divulged at once voluntarily and subtly.

The training SIM could function as a tutorial and a means to acquire abilities, equipment, and experience that might be missed during a play through. A danger room in a manner of speaking. There's also the narrative possibilities, such as that which was demonstrated in Arena in ME3.

Archeological digs and the parsing of the information and materials gathered from those digs are what I would hope would make up a sizeable portion of any unnecessary side content. A mystery to solve, or even better, to discover. Do a combat drop, discover an artifact, find a map you have to figure out how to discover how to decipher, then trace the artifact to its origin, to find loot and clues to the next artifact. Rinse and repeat until some amazing discovery is unearthed(badum tssh) that serves as a new lense to view everything we've done in the game and a bridge to the events of the next game.

Or more space prospecting. Whichever works best, I guess.

Jet packs make me want some superphysics basketball minigame. It'll never happen but it's fun to think about.

Buwhahahahah - you know Triple Triad has been developed into a standalone multiplayer web game now right? As a fan-project. Using all the original cards and rules. :)

Well, that could be fun. Armax Arena was fun. I thought Quasar was entertaining as well, and I can see how certain, simple card games, like Mau Mau(https://en.wikipedia...Mau_(card_game)) could be entertaining.
