Asymmetrical class survivability

I guess not all classes were meant to play nightmare.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I'm in a nightmare match and my level 20 assassin with hakkon weapon and highest purple gear has lower survivability than a level 1 silent sister. I know she's meant to pick her targets carefully and flank the archers or spellcasters, but she's so frail that the risk rarely outweigh the rewards.

One missed twin fangs or deathblow, and I'm dead (which happens way too often due to the clumsy animation), while the level 1 silent sister could solo through the Battle of the Bulge unscathed. Poor Argent needs a serious overhaul.

Or, to quote a famous, angry man...

"Something is askeeew!"

Played with a lv16 Assassin that just tore up Nightmare (can't remember his name at the moment)

I'm guessing promotions were a factor along with playstyle.

Did you try the assassin pre or post stealth buff? According to some as/hunter players that buff helped them a lot.

Which buff?

I just don't understand why deathblow and twin fangs don't work the same way as Isabela's ambush (or fear demon's, for that matter). The short range and annoying move restriction just feels like an unnecessary hindrance and causes a miss way too often. You're basically useless against melee enemies.

Before this goes on, can you tell us whether I'm correct in assuming you have mapped three attacks & stealth, which you primarily use as a lead-up for a critical hit? I don't mean to be cynical or patronizing, but it is a very common issue with very common symptoms recently.

To a greater extreme, there's people mapping their Archer with LS, ES, FD and MoD; merrily Longshotting away and subsequently complaining they're getting too much heat. I'm just saying, it makes sense that a warrior has inherent qualities that keeps them alive considerably longer, while a rogue must make sacrifices and employ tools to stay on their feet.

I have Fallback Plan & Stealth on my Hunter, and despite my low promotions, presumeably average skill, and the whidely common assumption of him being amongst the weakest classes; I am doing quite fine. Personally I have come to the realization that I must play my rogue more like one would command them in a party-based singleplayer RPG.

Which buff?

Stealth+ works like Fade Cloak now.

I have I was never here, so I open with twin fangs and follow up with deathblow or hidden blades if necessary to finish cooldown on stealth.

Mapping:

1 - stealth

2 - hidden blades

3 - death blow

4 - twin fangs

I can only recommend sacrificing either Twin Fangs or Death Blow for Fallback Plan (unupgraded), and see how it goes.

Even with massive HoK it is still a total game changer. Those "one moment of carelessness cost me 90% of my health and now I have to awkwardly circle around for a cheap kill at high risk" situations become a lot less frequent; without meaning to assume the fate of others based on my own idiocy.

P.S.: Also the cooldown has been reduced greatly with some of the recent tweaks, in case you haven't looked at it in a while. Just remember to always "quicksave" at the beginning of every encounter, and to replace it as soon as it becomes availible.

For Stealth, fittingly the sneakiest one here (it never was stickied):

For FBP, and general "changes to vanilla DAMP"-thread (apparently un-stickied):

I don't see any change to stealth at all. The assassin still gets an arrow to the face the instant she exits stealth.

It's the other way around. When in stealth, you're supposed to have fade cloak properties now. Ability to walk through enemies, limited invulnerability, etc.. It's so you don't get knocked out of stealth by attacks that aren't aimed at you.

Before she got an arrow to the face even in stealth! The new stealth is definitely a great improvement.

I used to be an assassin hater but the stealth buff has helped tremendously. She still does next to nothing for Exp and has to work twice as hard to get the same results as other classes but she at least can do what her niche demands of her. As much as that Niche has diminished over the course of the game's progression with the increased qty of enemies.

I know the new Darkspawn faction definitely limits the Templars Wombo Combo.

This thread seems like a stealth silent sister nerf thread.

I'd say this, power creep is a part of every game.  Newer characters are always going to be more powerful than older ones.  It happened in me3 as well.  The assassin does seem like a weaker kit than the silent sister - but that is not unusual or unreasonable.

The biggest problem with the assassin is the totally unreliable targeting of her abilities, you simply miss all too often and end up with your tail hanging out in the wind.  Also after respeccing again, I still fail to see the attraction of death blow, it still sucks for me.  Might work great for others but it does not even come close to living up to its name, back to shadow strike for me.

Slightly off topic perhaps with a stealth observation: While I was playing elementalist last night, I noticed the Alchemist while in stealth would never receive my barrier - this could be due to the new "fade cloak" property of the ability now. I dont want to say 100% but if others have noticed the same or would like to test post here with results.

Hm...what are your stats and what daggers are you using? I know assassin is especially gear and stat dependent, but I'm surprised to hear you don't find deathblow useful.

Yes, sadly this is the way things work now. They buffed her stealth yet accidentally nerfed her again. Also, apparently if you throw a healing mist while in stealth, it won't give you your health back either. Biower pls.

Stats in the 80s for each attribute.

Don't have hakkon daggers but essentially the best of the rest.
