I'm ready to be thoroughly awed. yep.

I heard there aren't really many companion stuff, but still, I'd love some story related banter.

I think I'll put Varric in the party, because of reasons!! And maybe Blackwall?

I would appreciate any suggestion.

There really is no story related banter from companions. All the story talk comes from your dwarf escorts.

I've completed three high level runs through this DLC so I will tell you who I took through each time. My dual-wielding dwarven rogue [lvl 25] was accompanied by Cassandra, Iron Bull and Dorian; final boss can be challenging (and Dorian saved our ass in that fight dropping fire mine, wall of fire and immolate, while chugging health potions and staying on the run).

Another dwarven Inquisitor [lvl 23; two-handed warrior] had Blackwall, Varric and Dorian, but it was Blackwall who pulled us through that fight. Next up was my female human mage [lvl 27] with Cassandra, Iron Bull and Varric. This Knight Enchanter Inquisitor wears the Antaam-saar Qunari armor but has a potent stave, between her and Varric we aced that last battle, but I credit Varric's strong ranged attacks bolstered by those explosive elemental mines upgraded to Throw Everything (and dropping Spike Traps as well) for holding the line.

Right now I'm trying my first lower level character, female dwarven dual-wielding rogue with Blackwall, Solas and Varric (might change to Sera); so will have to see how this level 14 character does. The ogre alpha and the initial fight at the seal were tougher, but that's as far as I've gotten.

Equip your strongest armor and weapons at the very least!

There's some companion related stuff near the beginning and the end, but as lynroy says, the dwarven escorts do the vast majority of the talking.

Ultimately, it'll probably come down to which companions work best with your play style. Blackwall is good because of his general tankiness, if you aren't a champion yourself. And you'll want at least one mage with barrier.

As other have already noted, all companions have a few comments at the start and end, nothing more.

I would suggest taking a balanced party, some of the enemies down there are really tough.

-sword/shield warrior

-rogue; Sera (thousand cuts on the hardest stuff)

-Mage; Solas or Dorian (Vivienne dies a lot because she thinks she's a warrior).

-any other class but mage, 2 mages is a waste here.

I played as a Dalish mage with the Rift Mage spec, and I was packing: Firestorm, Immolate, Veilstrike, Stonefist, Fade Step, Static Cage, Winter's Grasp, Barrier...switched a few around.

Anyway, I took: Cassandra (tank), Sera (Archery), and Vivienne (Fire and Spirit, mostly).

Didn't have any issues.

Party didn´t matter for me. The boss fight was won like every boss fight if I play I mage:

Jogging for my life and electrocuting everything in sight while party is taking a nap!

(Ahh Darth Malak and Arishok, I remember you with fondness. You were fricking strong but no match against my marathon powers.)

But just to avoid being blasted from existence I suggest weapons that generate Block.

I went with Sera, Dorian and Bull. Everybody complained.

Varric has a bit more dialogue than the other companions, not much more thought.

Varric for commentary, and at least one mage for gameplay reasons.

I agree with Varric for commentary.

For game play reasons my favorite was Solas.

Varric is the only one I'd consider necessary because he has a little more to say than the others.

I brought Varric, Cassandra, and Vivienne. Varric said the most, as every mentioned. Cassandra said a side comment here and there, and I think Vivienne had like 2-3 lines MAX throughout the entire Deep Roads. I actually did pretty well with Vivienne on nightmare though. She generates guard on hit, plus her KE proximity buffs for mana and barrier. And with that last boss fight, her Resurgence ability was a life saver, literally.

Iron bull banters with one of your temporary companions a few times, Cole has one good one with the other temporary companion. Solas, Blackwall, and Sera only talk at the beginning and end. Varric chatters a fair amount. Haven't taken Vivvienne or Cassandra through yet.

No one comments as much as everyone seems to in Jaws.

Of the companions, Dorian, The Iron Bull, and Varric are the most talkative of the companions during the DLC.

None of the characters are really all that talkative.

The enemies are mostly weak to electricity, so if you built up a Storm mage, go for that one.

Blackwall doesn't say much. I guess he's trying to lay low so that he doesn't have to answer any uncomfortable questions about the Darkspawn and the Deep Roads. Most of the companions are pretty quiet though.

I think Varric is the companion that has the most banter.

For the last fight I recommend ranged companions. I had Cassandra and Blackwall and they got turned to mush pretty quickly. I went back to camp and picked up Varric, Dorian and Viv (I think. Or Solas, can't remember) with good results.
