Female or Male Hawke?

And well, this already is gonna be the first tough choice in the game. Design wise, default female Hawke is just godly. No custom Hawke I've ever seen looks quite as great.
But when it comes to voice acting, I liked male Hawke better when I watched some videos on YT. FemHawke's got this sultry voice and it just isn't suitable for delivering funny lines. Not as good as M!Hawke anyhow.
So yeah, I'm pretty torn at the moment.

Which class? Because mage Hawke's trademark armor has a nasty overgrown arm if male.

That's his arm for other armors. Ready to see the nasty one the champion armor gives you?

...Yeah. So if you're picking a mage, go female. Personally, pick male if you're going to be a warrior since FemHawke looks way too skinny and not muscular enough to really look right using heavy armor and weapons. She's not like Aveline who does heavy armor justice, she looks wrong in it. Rogues can go either way, male or female looks good.
Oh, and personally I think my FemHawke's look better than the default. Definitely go custom if you'll be a mage, that way Carver won't have a baby face. I personally like the Carver that is 4 down (preset 6-8, fair skinned). I prefer Bethany's default look though.

That's far too muscular, yes. Is it a common glitch?

Mage, definitely a mage.

It's not a glitch, it's intentional. I assume Bioware thinks it's cool for Hawke to look like he can break you like a toy with just his pinky, so they make his arm look like he's been injecting some things that he shouldn't be. Apparently, mages really like to abuse steroids.
Guess it will be FemHawke then. Like I said, customize her or be stuck with Carver having a baby face, with might make him seem even more annoying to you than he would be otherwise. Oh, and you responded to my topic a few minutes ago... Why do you talk like you get what friend Merrill is like if this is a first playthrough?

I'm very familiar with the characters and major events.

One thing I really prefer about female Hawke's voice acting is that she doesn't change her tone quite as much between the different personality choices. This makes her sound a lot more consistent if you don't just pick a single personality type and use it for everything.

Default Female for me... Mage or Rogue. She is godly, isn't she? I like the trailer Hawke though. It's cool imagery...he's like mage Che Guevara or something. lol. Something about Nic Boulton's voice doesn't have that same edge in the game.

I roll with a Female as my canon, but while I like Jo Wyatt's voice, I do not really like her voice-acting.
In fact I find the sarcastic lines particularly cringe-worthy with her. Her delivery sounds like she is letting out a sigh.
I much prefer Boulton's deadpan style for humor.

Agressive male Hawke. The best Hawke.

Iv'e played through twice with male Hawke, and part played with female Hawke twice. I also love Jo Wyatt, especially in SWTOR. But for this game, it's male Hawke all the way. I just find him more entertaining, somehow. Especially playing as charming/funny/sarcastic Hawke (I'll admit that I find his voice pleasing to the ears).
Snarky male rogue Hawke is just so much fun.

Whenever I hear Nic Boulton, all I can think of is Vaughan Kendells. It kind of ruins it for me. I keep expecting Hawke to suddenly unleash a tirade of racist invective about elves at any moment.
I actually don't think I played the city elf origin story until after playing as male Hawke, so found it shocking when I heard his voice coming from Vaughan.

I much prefer Jo Wyatt's voice acting. Sarcastic F!Hawke is best Hawke.
I love FemHawke, but I love both really. I really enjoy the dynamic between female rogue Hawke and Bethany and male mage Hawke with Carver. I lean on the former more though.

Male Sarcastic Mage. Any other Hawke is uninteresting (and yeah, Scarscatic Hawke's exstience is why I finished DA2 with mutiply saves, and yeah, I was stating my canon Hawke)
This.
Mage gets the most from the story I think (as well as being the most fun to play), but I can't overstate how wonderful purple MHawke is. Jo Wyatt is great too, but he steals the show.

Sarcastic Marian Hawke is the best Hawke.
^ This. I've done quite a few playthroughs with both m!Hawke and F!Hawke but a mostly sarcastic (occasionally angry) mage Marian Hawke is by far my favorite and best experience. I just love her so.

I've done both as well, I just think the voice acting is better for snarky male Hawke. I've never played anything else than a snarky Hawke, I felt like that game was too dark anyhow, so Snarky Hawke gave it some snarky joy. Whilst I like the Fem Hawke, I pefer playing Males in this game (surprising, as i can make nice-manly looking Male Hawke's, they have nice faces I suppose!)

That one is easy, would you rather play as Vaughan or as Ciri?
Take your pick ![]()

Both of them have great default models. Hawke got guuuud genes.
Were you planning on romancing anybody? Because there are subtle differences with Merrill, Isabela, and Anders depending on your gender. Not so much with Fenris (except for the dick joke...

S/He is a real jerk, so that probably results in plenty of rivalry points.
Different strokes. My favorite was snarky male mage Hawke, because jfc Boulton's beautiful voice, but there are just as many people who prefer Wyatt's performance. Witty Hawke is more hammy as a dude and droll as a lady. As for sibling dynamics, I definitely prefer male mage with Carver and female rogue with Bethany.

If I play a male, it's gonna be rival!Merril. Isabela seems great, but I've already done the "cynical woman learns to love" shtick with Morrigan.
If I go with female, however... boy, that's gonna be tough. If you're going with a straight Hawke which is my intent, your options are the psycho mage and the bitter elf.
If male, I'm choosing sarcastic Hawke. As I said, he does a better job at delivering funny lines.
If female, then aggressive it is. She can be incredibly badass, if a little cold hearted.
Design wise, I'm not a big fan of default male Hawke. Those thin lips are weird as hell. Customizing would be a must. Default female Hawke is perfect the way she is, though.

Just tell me something... is it possible to do a friendship romance with Aggressive Hawke?
S/He is a real jerk, so that probably results in plenty of rivalry points.
Depends on what you do with the companion. One of my aggressive Hawke's friend-manced Isabella until rivaled Merrill ninja-manced him right out from under Issa's nose in Act 2. Darn that cute little Dalish!
It's a matter of min-maxing their approvals by taking them at specific times (I checked the wiki).
And to answer the original post topic: Most fun I've ever had on any protagonist in all three games so far was my 'canon' LadyHawke, a snarky, charming rogue who took nothing...NOTHING seriously. I got some really funny lines on that run by hitting almost exclusively the sarcastic answers.
