Is it harder to sub-20 gold or to sub-30 platinum ?

I have done sub 30 plat, but my fastest gold is just under 25 min i think. most of my plats are done on white thought, where you can set up a nice killzone in the hallway, and there is always something rushing you, so there is never any downtime. On gold i find i have to run around the map and attack the spawns more to go fast, and it usualy ends up with mooks spread around the map in cover.

So to answer the question, gold is probably easier, if you know how to do it.

You bring a point I wanted to mention. I agree, gold, especially the first waves, obliges to be more mobile to go fast.

I don't see how this is even comparable really, going back to the ttk factor you brought up, gold solos could be cleared fast with any kit with a reegar or arc pistol. It's not so easy on plat with the bullet sponges and extra bullsh*t associated with platinum.

Why not both?

Lol, can't believe some are saying Gold sub 20 is harder. Plat is harder by far. I believe there are a few sub 20 gold solos without rockets.

I think sub 30 plat is harder than sub 20 gold but I´ve done former with lots of grinding but not latter. Have tried latter with Krogard white geth and DAI BW giant few times on gold but keep hitting 20-23 min with varying objectives. Haven´t tried them on glacier though. I am old so speed is not my thing anyway.

It's not easy to sub20 Giant with BW DAI (I mean, it is if you're TheNightSlasher). It's quite easy to hit 20-23 minutes, but significantly more difficult to sub20.

If you're trying for sub20 stuff, your best bet is Glacier, by far. Giant is not the best speedrunning map.

Personally I would much sooner sub-30 platinum than sub20 gold. I hate doing gold speedruns. But in general I think sub-30 on platinum is harder because there is still a chance of failure just due to the myriad bullshit of multiple phantoms on more waves or three geth primes and the like, whereas on gold there are several breather waves and everything dies faster.

A herd of cattle, a flock of geese, a bullshit of phantoms?

I'm not going to lie I like it.

Sub 30 plat because I can do that on maps other than Glaicer, which is horrible and I refuse to play.

Like I said earlier..It is probably a sub 20 gold..BUT...I was trying to see if I could at least crack the 25 minute mark without nuking...Just did a GI Piranha vs Cerberus on Glacier...I made it to halfway thru wave 5 at exactly 8 minutes..I quit cuz I was already thru 4 gels

Keep trying and keep us updated. We can't wait to know your results

^ No problem since you are my #1 fan. But I really don't like to solo, so i won't be doing anymore for awhile. Keep checking my profile for further updates.

Had to try BW DAI on Glacier and got in first attempt 19:58. I missed lots of shots because sniping felt much more difficult in that map than in bigger ones. I went with adrenaline 3 but had difficulties with it and maybe power amp 4 is better option on glacier. Main difference was time using for objectives. Targets, escort, escort took 2:30 compared to previous giant solo escort, escort, targets 4min. 1 missile used for targets on both runs.

Power amp changes almost nothing because mooks still take 2 detonations to kill either way.

In solos, I mean. I'm curious about that because, while I have some clues about platinum, I rarely solo gold, actually. Those two time marks are usually the ones targeted by speedrunners.

As far as I can tell (after something like 15 plat solos and countless gold solos) they're about the same- I've yet to achieve either (I think my best gold solo is around 22 minutes, whereas my best plat solo is like 34). In both cases it requires a fortuitous combination of good objectives, good spawns, and great gameplay, and I'm pretty much always lacking at least one of these, usually more (I almost always play like crap and get garbage objectives).

That's my favorite, you've had a solid match thus far, well ahead of schedule and then goddamn devices drop on wave six. From there I fall apart usually.

Doing a sub-30 of Platinum, definitely. I've never done a sub-20 gold solo but if I had pushed myself on a couple of occasions, I could've done it. Platinum has more bosses and unless you're doing a really cheesy setup, all the potential sync kills, homing attacks, ignoring damage, etc. will slow you done more and more.

Lol, I tried the gold one last night. I think I've had maybe a couple of games in the last six months playing this game. Threw on the GI and expected to dominate and just got my **** wrecked by Cerbs, I felt like my aim was moving through damn molasses. Definite L2P problems were detected.

Did one with the LolTrooper versus Ripperz and got a 26 minute solo with Armored Compartments. My rockets were goddamn terrible, one kill streak on nine. Spawns just did not fall like I wanted them even with good spawn blocking. Got four points on ten which pretty much sealed my fate. Delivery on three, hack on six. I almost feel like I should've been more passive and let the spawn group better on 5, 8 and 9 since they were split.

^That's the thing that gets me, you watch the speed run video's and just assume that all the spawns will work perfectly, then you try it and realize that is not the case. It gets reinforced in team games on Glacier because a full spawn is always forced in the basement.

It's not just objectives RNG uses to screw you, but spawning patterns

^ The videos you see don't reveal the countless troll spawns or the plentiful instances when atlases survive missile with bulk of its armor left or a random engineer/guardian/nemesis deciding to hang out so far away that you have to spend 30 secs trying to hunt it down.

^Exactly my point. People only post the money runs. So all anyone else sees is the perfect spawning pattern video after video.

It's not until you try it that you realize 'hey, those players must have had lots of attempts at this'

Exactly. Like I said, as far as I can tell (from many attempts but no/few successes at sub-20/30) it requires kind of a perfect storm of good objectives, good spawns, and good gameplay- and only the last one is really under your control. Awfully hard/rare to nail all three (particularly if you're a scroob, like me).

PC eliminates one of those factors though on the objectives. I wish there was a way to do that on console.

As hard as it is, I still got a decent run after a long time away from the game and just shitty game play. I think I could do it with a little practice. I was painfully terrible with the GI, painfully.

oh yes. All if not most the great solos we've seen whether speed run or other types have had many failed attempts due to bad objectives, disconnects, and enemy wtf troll moments. I know many people have asked to see fails but I think posting fails is a waste of upload IMO  :?

This is so ridiculously true. 4 out of 5 times I'm doing a solo and camp on a spawn, the other spawn(s) is/are the one(s) with the bosses. By the time I get over there to get a missile, it's always too late.
