I had a similar party when I stumbled on the despair demons, though I was at level 27 when I started JoH: my knight enchanter, Cassandra (2h), Blackwall (w&s), and Dorian (lots of fire). It was just dumb luck that I had a good group for one of the hardest fights in the game. Dorian and Cassandra went down a couple of times but I managed to get them to revive each other so they were all standing when it was over. I was just stunned afterward. It felt like I was fighting them for hours, but I'm sure I don't remember lol. Those stupid bastards jump all over the place...

 

I had one of my best parties, Cassandra, Bull, Solas and my inquisitor, an archer, all level 27, and still barely got out of there alive on normal difficulty.  Rough battle indeed.

That's pretty much what happened to me when I found that Rift with the Pride Demons at level 23....they completely destroyed my party, which rather embarrassing because I only play on casual difficulty.

This was my first gameplay on Normal, so I feel ya... i might have faired a tiny bit better on casual, but I don't feel like it would have made much of a different. I used my focus ability and everything...still not one of them was defeated... i'm almost level 21 now and may come back to it today after killing the dragon in the Western Approach. I haven't finished Descent yet, but have gotten some crazy strong schematics and Items...

Tonight.... I feast on the blood of the Jaws of Hakkon!!!

None of the demons gave me problems. I think I dispelled most of the ruptures each and every time. I only fought one pride demon per related rift. Fought one in the river, and one next to the broken down shack.

 

Pride demons aren't that hard to beat, even in numbers. You just have to keep them panicked or fear'd. Then while they are distracted you have the Inquisitor disrupt the rift.

 

And yes, I play on Nightmare.
