Maybe I'm just an old woman like Flemeth, but it seems to me that an option was missing for those who romanced Solas.

It was odd enough that he didn't recognize my pointed ears during the conversation after the ball - or that he asked me what I was going to do with the power of the well, when it was Morrigan who had it, not I.

My biggest issue with this part of the game was not having "the woman scorned" option of just telling Corypheus to take it, take it all, I'm going to live in the fade, eat that... Solas.

I thought we were supposed to be able to bring doom upon the world?

It seems an obvious option that should have been included.

Felt the same about the bit with the conversation after the ball, i was like wtf Solas, i'm romancing you and i'm an Elf!   And the well thing is a bug i think. But the choice to not let you destroy the world, i can understand. It becomes increasingly difficult to tell a strong cohesive story whilst letting the player have utter RPG freedom. Look at games like Skyrim where you can kill who you like when you like how you like etc.
You get all that player freedom but at the cost of a story, IMO Skyrim's story, as well as Oblivion's, were both pretty bad. Dragon Age is becoming less of a pure RPG, and more of a Story/Character focussed action game with RPG elements. They need to limit your choices in order to be able to have the game not have wildly diverging story lines that would be impossible to implement, sad as that is. Personally i'm happy with how DA is transforming, but i'm more of a story > game play guy. But if you want that kind of world changing freedom i can't recommend anything more than Fallout 3  :)

Oh, I've played all those and a lot more - and I agree. :)

I think the problem arises with the video they showed when they first announced the game.  One was left with the impression that you could save the world or destroy it.  However, I don't think the option itself would have been too difficult.

One more line for the inquisitor, a possible "What?!" or "NO!" from Solas . The inquisitor creates a rift - steps in - gone. Cut to close up of Corypheus , big grin, laugh, flash of red. game over.

But I'm not a developer, so I have no idea how much this would have cost - or how much work is involved.

The whole "harden yourself" speech, might have worked on my RL hubby - but for me... at that point he'd have been better off doing that after Cory was dead.  After Jos. had killed off my clan, the only thing that she had to live for was Solas .. ergo... he destroyed her world, she'd destroy his.

Sadly, I'm starting to feel the same way. <_<

I would much rather play a game that lasted 60 hrs  with many divergent paths and endings, than one that lasts 200-300 hrs but every route feels the same.

This series seems to be going in the same direction as the hair...

How well would destroying the world work for a sequel? At best it would be an non-canon what-if ending like Darkspawn Chronicles was.

Oh, there was an ending in Dragon Age: Origins that allowed you to step aside for the Archdemon and an ending in Dragon Age: II to refuse to make a choice between Orsino and Meredith?

I cannot remember such a choice being presented to the player in the series beside dying and refusing to reload. I suppose I could have missed that choice during my plays.

One of the things that made DAO a great game for me was the multiple endings.

Every story is non canon except the ones the writers pick as canon, In origins your warden could die, or Alistair or Logain - or they all could live...  You are also forgetting about the wibbly wobbly timey wimey magic, which makes for an easy work around for any story.

As for DA2 - I seem to recall one of the writers (I think Gaider) saying something along the lines of - there was going to be an option to not choose between Meredith or Orsinio, but they ran out of time?

Also if you let your pc die you get a game over screen describing what you have done and how Cory won, so I still think it could have been done.  Some of us women can be very vindictive when slighted - I know that for a fact, because it's what I would have done.

So I still think Lavallen should not have had that talk with Solas till after the battle or she should have had the doom option.

But I appreciate your input. :)

I agree with some points and disagree with others. A hero death option would have been nice however, I worked too hard not to take Corypheus out in the end. If I had an option of going down with the ****** just to stick it to Solas, I'd have been satisfied. I think I see -why- he ended it, though. There's a much bigger storm he thinks will get you killed for sure, and he wants to keep you away from it.

As far as destroying the world in the end, I think it's one of those "matter of perspective" things Solas is always going on about. Your choices throughout the game is what would "destroy" or "save" the world. To some people of Thedas, freeing the Mages -is- "destroying" the world; to others, conscripting the mages would just lead to another Mage Rebellion....which would cause more crap for the world to resolve...thereby "destroying" the world. Throughout the whole game -someone's- world is being messed with in unpleasant ways, it simply isn't revealed to us. I wish they'd finish the frikkin story so we can see who we ticked off to the point of sending assassins after us - as I do believe was advertised at some point, but hasn't been done yet. *fumes*
