Never pre-order, never buy on day 1. Doesn't matter if it's a game, a phone or even a car, the first buyers are identifying and putting up with the problems that are mostly going to be fixed for all the buyers who were willing to wait a few months. Sure, if everybody did that then those problems aren't going to be identified and fixed as quickly but there'll probably always be enough people buying on day 1 that it won't be an issue, and in the unlikely event it ever happens companies will suddenly have a big incentive to get products in better shape in time for launch day.

Long ago, pre-ordering a Bioware game was a no-brainer but those days are long gone.  Now I wait well past launch to find out via user reviews and general gamer input if one of their games is worthwhile.

Hate to always point the finger at EA but when a former beloved gaming company goes off the rails, EA always seems to be at the heart of it.

Just like with DAI, will buy it on sale. Cant see a reason to preorder it, whatsoever.

As a sucker for a DRAGON AGE game I say sure.

Their pre-order stuff usually isn't half bad.

I don't ever preorder.  I think my final preorder was Zelda: Ocarina of Time, about 20 years ago.  I had no problem with trusting developers until more recently, though.  I bought plenty of games on release day until maybe 6-8 years ago.  Now, I have to wait and see if their release condition is healthy enough to merit the expenditure.  If they want me to beta test, they need to pay me, not the other way around.

No chance. I thought DA:I was flashy but without any substance.  Big empty zones, no meaningful choices, etc. The list of problems was long and there wasn't a lot on the other side to balance things out except a chance to revisit with characters I liked from other games. For me, DA:I was a bit of nostalgia wrapped in a very unappealing game system. From what I've heard, the DLC was the worst Bioware has produced.

I loved DA:O and, yes, contrary to public opinion, I actually really enjoyed DA:2 (while acknowledging the problem with reused assets I thought the combat was fun, the story was good, the characters were memorable... basically, everything DA:I lacked) but I will never pre-order another EA/Bioware game again. I'm not even going to get the game near release. I'm going to wait for player reviews and visit the forums before making a decision.

It's sad to say that about the gaming company I used to love the most, but there it is.

Did you read the official description of what MEA is gonna be? It scared the bleep out me. It was literally, DAI: Andromeda. Establishing hundreds of colonies, finding new resources throughout the galaxy and blah, blah. I have the feeling that most of the really talented people have already left Bioware and they now are probably working for other companies. It can't be that these are the same people who developed such great, creative and interesting games only a few years ago.

Yikes. That would be so odd. The Mass Effect series is special to me because it feels so much like getting to live out a sci-fi action film. For the most part, all I care about is the central narrative (and any compelling world-building from cinematic, story-focused side quests) and core gameplay. I hate busywork.

They set it up in the trailer. Why do you think they picked ' Ghost Riders in the Sky'?

This looks like it might be less save the galaxy and more cowboys in space. As I love Firefly, cowboys in space doesn't sound so bad.

But we don't know much about the main plot yet. All we have are some of the features. (The nee Mako looks sweet). Wait to see what's coming.

Yes, BioWare hasn't let me down since I discovered them in 2009.

Probably not, but not because of any trepidation about the game, it's only because that's generally the way it usually works out when I buy any game. Then again, if the previews and pre-order bonuses look good, and I have the money at the time, I might.

I might if they get DA:I out of Beta. Not otherwise.

There is a 700 page thread: "PC Community Concerns" that listed things to be fixed.

A chest in Skyhold? You have to be joking.

As for hair!! Don't get me started.

Definitely will depend on what I am hearing. The story for DAI was absurdly weak, and the villain was a stupid, weak joke; as uninteresting as he was esssentially inconsequential. If there is a big beautiful world for DA4 that has little more than meaningless fetch quests, count me out. If there is a villian the likes of the absurd Cory, the DA AssClown, there's better things for me to spend money on.

While I consider my purchase of DAI to basically be a positive one, if DA4 follows this model, I will probably buy it when it hits the bargin bin. Big beautiful worlds that are essentially empy of substance and devoid of story have no use to me.

MEMO to ML... Story Matters. Villains Matter... making a big beautiful world (aka Skyrim) doesn't make up for a weak story and a laughable, Wile E. Coyote wannabe Villain. Do better next time, if you can't do better... resign.

I didn't preorder the first two Dragon Age games, I preordered DA:I. I'll probably pre-order DA 4 aswell. I am very satisfied with DA:I so far (I am 295 hours in atm).

Well because I've only ever bought 2 BW games new, I'll probably do what I've always done. Either buy it used or wait until my girlfriend goes all fangirl over the game and buy a copy for both us. So no pre-order or day one purchase from me personally.

For me no. I felt burned by DAI and so I'll wait for the price to drop down.

They need to show us what Dragon Age 4 is about first.

Absolutely, as long as it's a single-player RPG where you can choose your character's gender.
