Hey, I've read Consider Phlebas, I like the universe but the book reviews seem to be average, Player of Games is highly rated so I will look into that, but does anyone know a good book series like it? Something like Game of Thrones as well, no galactic end of the universe story with a single hero to save them all, but stories that happen upon a small level with their own conflicts?

I prefer a series as I like to get immersed in the universe. I've heard Neal Asher is good, but it seems to follow one protagonist, not multiple.

The Expanse series is incredible.

Leviathan Wakes is the first novel. James SA Corey.

You suggest I read his series before Neal Asher's series?

I've read the synopsis of the first book. I like the scale. Isn't some galactic info-nuke of a book to get lost and confused in, but focused in our solar system. Interesting. I'm gonna buy it now and read tonight.

Dune series..

I'll reiterate the comparison to ASoIaF. It has heroes, but not any single one. You could even call it a commentary on the nature of heroes.

The Pern series by Anne McCaffrey is quite good. For boy's adventure you might try the Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison.

Ayup, Dune. If you haven't already read it, then you should. It's a must-read for any SciFi fan.

Also, the Hyperion Cantos.

Larry Niven Tales of Known space is very good.

Also Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle's "The Mote in God's Eye".

A very different take on first contact.
