Dwarves look like kids ? We are talking about Dwarves. The race with the highest percentage of neotenous features are Elves, not Dwarves. This is not just true in Dragon Age but in many other fantasy games and literature as well.

It is the Elves that have very sparse facial hair and body hair. It is that Elves have large expressive eyes similar to a young child. Dwarves are short and stocky and have lots of hair all over them. How can they be childlike or even look childlike ?

Because somewhere along the line short came to equal kid.

Whoa there, Nelly. rashie just offered a hypothetical example where a player made their PC to look like a child and suggested that was a consideration in no dwarf romances.

Anyways, I think Rashie is wrong. Bioware doesn't give two shits what players make their PCs look like; you can make the Inquisitor resemble a proboscis monkey for all they care.

So why no Harding romance? First off, let's remember that Bioware develops party members first for reasons relating to gameplay: there has to be at least two mages, two rogues and two fighters for every party.

Dwarves can only serve as fighters or rogues, which is why there are much fewer dwarven characters than humans or elves. As well, dwarves are far fewer in number than elves and humans.

But why haven't the handful of dwarven characters that have been party members used as romance options? Besides the fact Oghren is disgusting, he and Varric were in love with other women. And Sigrun was an Awakening companion, and there was no romances in Awakening.

But why isn't Harding a romance? It's likely just a resource thing. She's not a full party member and she's not an advisor, so your interaction with her is very limited. It's not just a matter of adding a kissing scene; you would need to add things like actual conversations. Oh, and she would have to be at the ball too, because if you couldn't dance with her, then fans would raise holy hell. Y NO DANSE WITH DORF WAIFU BIOWRE????

Well they already have voice work for all the flirting and her asking if you're interested and specifically telling you that you two would talk later. It would really only take adding just one more "conclusion" sort of conversation to make it work. As it stands, she just sort of seems to leave us hanging.

But the flirts all happen during scenes that occur anyway, as she reports to you about what's going on in each zone. That's just a matter of tacking on a few extra lines.

She still brings up the issue in it's own conversation back at Skyhold. It wouldn't even take a long one to conclude the arc.

It'll be a final DLC reward like the Samara Citadel DLC romance.

Also hoping for a future DLC for Harding.

Sweet and touching really isn't James's thing.  But it works in its own weird way.

I can see it now

-Bioware finishes showing the trailer reveal of the last DLC at Pax

-After the applause has died down, the screen fades to black-

-A few seconds pass, then a familiar voice speaks out from the darkness-

"So how about that drink, Inquisitor?"

-Pax explodes due to overloaded hype levels-

Just saying, after the disastrous makeover the elves got for DA:2, the Merril romance felt slightly creepy due to her somewhat child-like appearance.

But somehow in DA:I a Dwarf inquisitor + IB was not problematic despite Gaider's reasoning.

So... someone is probably slightly confused at Bioware.

She's mundane. And I don't mean that disparagingly - she's just a regular peasant, with some mild military aptitude, who signs up for service. And Bioware's party members - and romance characters - are all standout, exceptional people. The "normal", down-to-earth characters Bioware's done tend to be superlative talents - Josie with diplimacy and Sam being better at getting information that Shadow Broker Liara.

I do not say this lightly, but I find Scout Harding to be one of the - if not the - least interesting NPCs Bioware's ever done.

I love Scout Harding. I really want her as a companion next game.

But I really don't think it's necessary to try and locate some sort of conspiracy theory as to why she wasn't romanceable.

I would've taken Scout Harding over Sera any day of the week. And Dagna over Vivienne as well, while we're at it.

I don't think this reluctance is limited just to Bioware ... even Witcher doesn't have any scene with Dwarf female and the Europeans have always been far more open about that ...

It's not as if we're asking for this randomly. She's already someone who you can flirt with for two thirds of the game and who expresses interest in you. She's like an existing unfinished romance option.

It's a fair point. Harding is nice and she's very pretty in a dorfy way, but there's not a lot of depth there.
