Hello

So, last time I was here this game was a buggy, unplayable game on the PC. I've heard there have been some patches to fix a majority of the issues (the camera angle or lack there of being the biggy for me) but....

I wonder if the state of the game on PC is good enough to buy now?

Is the PC version still better off with a console controller?

Am I better off getting the PS3 version?

What exactly am I loosing on the console version vs PC?

Appreciate any answers

Thanks folks

They dropped support for old gen. Which means no more patches nor DLC.

So I would go with PC.

Yep, & I don't know about your PC graphic card but playing DAI on ultra settings looks great and immersive.

I'd recommend PC no matter what though.

I would recommend against the old console versions, based on the discontinuing of DLC and patch support on those platforms, the weaker performance, and the supposed higher frequency of bugs.

There's a free trial through Origin. You can test out the controls there. And you should be able to hook up a controller to see how that plays, too.

Personally, I have tried both and prefer the keyboard mouse setup.

I'm not sure what the specs on your PC are, but the last gen version also has some graphic issues, like shiny hair or next to no visible skin details.

You can also mod the PC version with new hair and outfits. And as Rascoth said, if you want to play new DLC, PC is the right option here.

I've had absolutely zero issues playing the game on the PS4.  It's been awesome, if you were going to upgrade to a new console.

I don't even use my PS3 now, other than watching movies, so I think I'll stick with the PC and save $350 :)

Absolutely go for PC. PS3 version looks really bad, here you will be able to play it on almost highest settings in 60 fps, instead of low textures low resulution mess in 30 fps.

It's not even a competition.

Not to mention dropped DLC support (don't know about Descent, but Jaws of Hakkon are pretty cool), dropped patch support, probably more bugs, and those horrible, horrible hair (or did they fix that?).

Before they dropped support on old gens, I'd have said PS3.

Now I say neither.

Wait until current gen consoles drop their price below one week's worth of minimal wage, then buy the PS4 or Xbone version.

How is a console version in ANY WAY better, than the PC version?

PC version (at least now) is fully stable and has no significant bugs of any kind (at least not more than consoles). It has mod support. You can probably get the game cheaper. You have better graphics and twice the framerate. You can plug in a controller for the exact same gameplay experience if you want.

Why would you advise against getting this on PC?

Or why get this on PS3? The game looked horrible on the old gen, it had a whole bunch of problems and terrible graphics compared to other versions!

If your PC is powerful enough.

Which tend to cost a lot of money.

And If the guy who launched this topic had that kind of money, he wouldn't have asked the question to begin with.

The previous gen versions were perfectly serviceable.

I don't understand why anyone would get the console version versus PC if (a decent quality) PC is an option, frankly, unless you have friends on whatever console it is that you want to do MP with. If your problem is with the kb/mouse controls, then use a controller. I can't lie, I've encountered bugs--even posted about a few of them a day or so ago, trying to find a fix, but it's not THAT bad, and I think most of what I've encountered occurs occasionally on console as well. They've done a lot of work since day one on the patches, I'd say. Game is a lot better now than it was on day one. PC has the advantage of mods as well, which is really not something you can overlook when you see those Inquisitor jammies  :D

He wrote he has a solid i5 and GTX 970.

Which is enough for 60 fps on Ultra without MSAA.

(A) Because I love my PS4, and love gaming on my console.  I have had zero issues with the game,, and honestly, few issues gaming on any console since the early days of the PS3.  Its smooth, it doesn't crash, and it doesn't slow down.

B.   If you are like me and don't have access to real broadband, PC gaming is difficult, if not impossible, much of the time.

I also just don't understand why so many want to bash console gaming.  If you like PC gaming, then fine, but so many people seem to make it their mission to knock anyone else.

If your PC can handle it definitely get that version, DLCs aren't being released on old gen and support was limited even before they made that decision especially when it came to fixing bugs only found on older consoles. To me the game seems more suited to a controller but it's playable with a Kb/M. You could try both and see which feels right to you.

DAI's nearing the end of it's DLC cycle so while each BW update will break mods until a patch is released by modders you'll probably only have to deal with it a few times. Worth it just to get rid of the beige pjs imo.

You can play DAI on ultra and 60 fps in most places as others have said, but sometimes during battle it might drop to 50 and may drop to 40 in some places like redcliffe village, but still you will barely notice it. Seriously go for PC.

Personally, I wasn't knocking consoles (though I know many do). I played Origins and 2 on my 360, when I didn't have a PC powerful enough to run them comfortably. I said I didn't understand why someone would use a console over their (equally or more powerful) PC given the advantages of playing on pc (like mods). You bring up good points as to why someone might need/want to use a console as an alternative, and it makes more sense.

I'm PS3 player and although DAI is playable on PS3 I'd recommend getting it to PC. Bioware has patched PC game a lot so it should run lot better now. They really haven't patched PS3 game so at least for me it crashes quite often, which is something I haven't experienced before with console game. CC lacks some options on PS3, there is sound clitches and texture pop-in's during almost all cutscenes. Of course there is no DLC after Jaws of Hawkon and multiplayer isn't supported with DLC's either anymore on PS3.

So if only you have powerful enough PC to run DAI with, even if you don't meet recommended specs I'd recommend getting game for it.

Didn't you try ME2 vanilla on PS3? Mine crashed four times, in a row, before the same goddamned door in the Normandy: after that experience, a game like Skyrim felt like the epitome of stability.

I played through ME2 & 3 several times each on the PS3.  There may have been a few bugs here and there, but I can't remember the game crashing more than any other.

Ah this was for me, didn't get notice.

I have ME2 on PS3 and actually Skyrim as well. Neither of them haven't crashed once. I have completed ME2 3 times now and Skyrim, well I guess I have over 100 hours on it. I didn't get either right when they were released though, I know that Skyrim at least used to be broken, but it simply isn't anymore- I don't know if ME2 used to be broken or not. I haven't really got any bugs in Skyrim, well one time I got stuck between rocks, but that's it (in other hand it crashes quite often on my PC, but it's likely because 20+ mods I have). ME2 has some texture-pop in's, not even close as bad as DAI though where people's eyebrowns go on/off during cutscenes and then clitches where my character stands above ground or walks in place that shouldn't be walkable- same problem with ME3 though and it's quite manageable. But crashes with ME2 and Skyrim.. not even once.
