It would have to be a separate game dedicated to space flight. I always thought the codex entries on space combat would make for an interesting game (ignoring the one about most fights ending quickly when a side retreats using FTL). There would be a strategy component not being able to fire with a garden world behind your target and heat management (similar to MechWarrior).

Now I want a new MechWarrior game.

Space combat wouldn't have to be a flight sim. Perhaps instead of directly controlling the ship, you could issue orders that the crew then carries out. Less Star Fox, more Skies of Arcadia.

That sounds like it would be very cutscene heavy, which is really, really expensive (from a development POV). And how would the gameplay look like?

I was thinking they could take a few ques from Skies of Arcadia, so something a bit like this.

I'm fine with space battles staying in cutscenes. I'm not confident that BioWare could pull off space battle controls and I don't like the idea of playing a character that's "untested" but leads the expedition and pilots the ship.

Actually, I'm watching BSG right now (go me, over 10 years too late) and please no one ruin it, but they could have something similar.  Have the Tempest jump to Andromeda with only subsystems working independently of one another, so as not to encounter anything like the geth, except a ton more hostile.

*shrug*  Just sayin'.

Do I hear a call for the return of everyone's favorite Jade Empire minigame?

If ME:A could bring in the stronghold customization elements from Skies of Arcadia that would be awesome as well. I felt way more in control and attached to my pirate's bay in that game than I ever did to Skyhold in DA:I.

Depends on how it was done. I like the idea of space fights in the game, because I feel that no sci-fi is complete without a couple of them, but at the same time, games that aren't completely flight sims or space exploration tend to have really awful space segments, so I'm torn.

I'll give a vote for yes on this though because ME1 had the mako and ME2 had the hammerhead, and while not perfect, it was clear that they wanted to have some form of vehicular combat. So why not? Give it a try Bioware, it might be really fun on the third try.

I'm not being multiplayer bitter but if space combat was part of MEMP they probably would dedicate more resources into getting it right than if it was singleplayer only.

According to the leak it looks like mp and sp will share maps so why not have space battles in both. In mp you pilot a one person fighter in a co-op squadron and in sp it you against the enemy in your Tempest.
