Exploring for me, though certain quests can be beneficial. Also seek Agents; gains Perks for the War Table.

I don't think combat is very fun in the game, so probably just doing whatever quests you come across.

The game's not really susceptible to grinding due to the way XP scaling works, and the only enemies that could really get you levels quick (giants) are overwhelmingly not worth the trouble.

Hunting nugs, rams, and druffalo outside of Haven. ;)

Read every scrap of paper that search makes glow. You can pretty near level up in your first visit to Val Royeaux just by reading stuff.

Leave darkspawn holes open. Endless supply of the critters to grind XP, particularly in front of the Keep in the Western Approach.

Kill high dragons -- from Vinsomer on, you can level up with each kill.

Because? I found grinding giants in Emerald Graves both fun and profitable, XP-wise. Giant Bears too.

Because they take a fair bit of effort to kill and have a guaranteed one-shot ability (not even dragons can claim that). They can't be taunted (they randomly pick their own target—it's just a matter of luck for them to choose a tank or somebody with an escape ability), they have dumb pathfinding, and they frequently have stupid physics interaction. You also have to worry about which direction they're facing (they seem to have some sort of immunity at certain angles), and if you get them to fall down, two of their target points are routinely blocked from ranged damage. And in the Emerald Graves, you have to worry about bronto getting offended and deciding to charge into your party.

I can't think of anything less fun to fight in the entire game.

I love the combat. I think I could grind on enemies alone.

Some say that the JoH DLC provides a good environment for leveling, though it is for higher lvl characters.

Just following the main storyline can provide quite a lot of experience, but I quite liked freeing each of the Keeps.

There seemed to be enough going on in the game that if you do the most of the quests you would pretty much max out without having to actually worry about grinding specifically to level.., That's up to you though if you're a completionist. I tend to explore every nook and cranny of every game I get so I did every side quest and got all the collectibles, but obviously most people don't care to do that. And don't worry... even if you don't you should still reach a high level without having to "go out of your way"

Killing High Dragon is a fun way for me to level up. Jaws of Hakkon can also get you quite a few levels if you know what you're doing, I went from 16 to 21 by he time I was done with the story content of Jaws.

In general, just running some side quests will give you decent XP.  Pretty vague, since in terms of time probably 90% of the game is side quests.

Okay, I can't find too much to agree with here, but thanks for clarifying anyway. Personally, I think it is hilarious when a bronto or three gets pulled into the fight. It's not so hilarious when a second giant does, though, I'll give you that.

Actually wish there was a Leveler mod or console command; dislike playing lower levels, and would like to alter the route a bit.

you can walk in the water in Fallow Mire.. corpses , corpses and corpses.

post Skyhold, those grey pigs on the ice in Emprise ( i forgot their name now )... they  respawn non stop , away from the rifts and have no health practically. If i recall they're 100xp each. .. boring , but no more than root and lotus picking.

Snoufleur, and that's a good one. Easy, plentiful, XP and Tier 3 leather mats that also remove class restrictions on armor. If you'd rather have gold than XP, the mats sell for decent coin too.

so, i'd like to know, what are fun way to level up, like, exploring, battles and more?

I found the most effective and for me quickest was just to run through story content/side quest. Killing mobs usually nets horrible experience so never try to grind out. I think Iv done quite a few playthroughs and usually hit around 27 by the time I finish main story and Jaws of Hakkon, before I head into descent.

Honestly early on killing dragons is a great way to just get your levels bumped up so quickly. and they can be killed at very early levels very easily, on nightmare.

How did you kill them early on on Nightmare?

Thousand Cuts.

How did you kill them early on on Nightmare?

Thousand cuts helps, and I use it but I like the Mark of the Rift also, does insane damager, and hits allot, I mean actually hits which procs a ton of your Fade touched items.

On my Rogue playthrough I used 3 rogues, My assassin, cole, and sera with solas.

I pretty much always use sera and cole with dw daggers just because the AI controls them so well, often better then most other party members. Don't get me started how horrible the AI controls Iron bull and Vivienne. I love reavers, I know how insane they are, Iron bull is bleh unless used by you... but I digress.

Back to the point I was making, and my strategy.

You want to around level 10 after you unlock your special class to try to get 200-300 max focus. 200 is enough early. Then head over to the storm coast and grab your Mighty Offense tonic and go ahead and max it out, very easy to do. Now After I have done this I like to farm in Exalted plains for 3  pieces of Fade Touch Velvet for Hidden blades x4, and then head over to Emprise du Lion for some Hidden blades x5 . Quite easy to the way I do it. Find a group of 4-5 mobs that can drop the item you want. Save it, engage and pop mark of the rift, every one dies instantly, loot and if you don't get one, reload save. repeat as it only takes few seconds. After you get it, find another group, or reload zone to respawn same group.

So around level 10-12ish you should have your fade touched and mighy offense tonic which gives 100% critical damage bonus as well as some nice base damage. So you are ready at this point to kill any dragon in game on nightmare in less then 5-8 seconds.

Method:

Engage dragon, pop mighty offense first.

Then use Assassins Mark with Cole.

Then immediately and this is very important, use your Mark of the Rift so the dragon will get rooted in place.

Use thousand cuts, and firestorm, and cole's if you like, not needed though.

Thats pretty much it, the dragon will die in like 5 seconds.

Here is why, thousand cuts hits like a insane amount of times right? every hit has a chance to proc 10% Hidden blades x4 and 10% hidden blades x5.

Same for your inquisitor , every hit of mark of the rift has chance to proc this.

So once their health gets so low, the mark of the assassin will go off and kill them because it stores up damage and then deals that damage at the end of the mark, it will however detonate early if it is a killing blow.

Honestly using this technique on nightmare will kill anything in the game in seconds, every dragon, every boss, etc.. None will be a challenge.

Maybe I will write up my "How to be overpowered early as Hell" guide for nightmare difficulty. I'v played through the game about 5-6 times now with about 75 hours playtime on each playthrough. I have a pretty good understanding of how to get to skyhold around level 8 in just about 5 hours and then grab all tier 3 weapons in about 6 hours as well as ton of High level purple quality rings, belts, amulets etc.. If you know how to do it. Makes the game super easy, but I really enjoy just dominating a game on its highest difficulty. Makes you feel like a Beast lol, at least its fun for me. There are a few fights where you need to use the Tactical Camera, mainly in the DLC but none are even remotely challenging on nightmare.

But yea, hope this helps, start killing hinterlands dragon around level 10-11 and get that massive experience from killing them all. Should put you up to level 22-24 by the time you finish all the regular zones, not counting DLC, which should put you around 27ish prolly.

I'm kind of sad they don't have an old school console of that kind on the PC.  My favorite way to play is usually to max-level everyone and play on nightmare.  It makes fiddling with gear more interesting.
