It would have been interesting to play the game without your right hand Leliana. You can even choose the option that you killed her in DA Keep, but she magically shows up in Inquisition again. One can only wonder how this would affect the whole Inquisition.

She's certainly not the only spymaster in Thedas; you can talk to Varric about him doing the job. And if she's named Divine, someone else will have to step into the role. But I'd personally miss her if they hadn't brought her back through necromancy.

It migt have been interesting to have someone else replace Leliana if she died in Origins, or even if the game let your replace advisors with someone else if you disagree too much with each other, but unfortunately the word count budget is not infinite, and the game needs to stay within scope at some point.

In an ideal world, where time and money are infinite and we can have everything we want, I would've personally loved the option to replace Leliana with Zevran as my spymaster. I like Leli well enough as a character, but she disagrees with my Inquisitor's policies and choices far too much for them to have a healthy professional relationship - someone more callous and neutral, with less personal stakes invested in the Inquisitor's choices would've made a better advisor for my Inquisition, in particular. (plus, what I wouldn't give to actually get some Zevran back beyond a couple of letters...)

But Zevran can die too.

I would have also liked the option to replace Leliana, perhaps with Iron Bull even. Iron Bull seemed to have a strong grasp of espionage but also maintained a certain code of ethics and honor. That may originate with the Qun, in that no life should be wasted if possible.

I wasn't impressed with Leliana's appearance in DA:I, but I also have to admit that it wouldn't feel the same without her. My Inquisitor and her did not agree on most things, but it was an opportunity for my Inquisitor to show moral direction, and I feel like Leliana grew and learned during the course of the game. It is usually good to have a character in a game that you disagree with and are annoyed by at times. It adds a special kind of gameplay experience to the mix.

If spymaster Zevran was in the cards, Leliana would be dead in every single one of my games/keep imports, regardless of whether or not I had actually killed her in DAO.

So if Varric became our spymaster will Varric be a potential candidate for the next Divine?

One month after the defeat of Corypheus , the Chantry shocks the world by naming Varric Tethras as successor to the Sunburst Throne. Given the name Divine Victor, he is the first male, and dwarf to ever to hold the position...

You know... once I was thinking about who would be the best Divine... "Hmmm... the best Divine would be someone who doesn't want that power. At all. Who really doesn't want it? Varric for Divine!"

I didn't remember that we could kill Leliana in DA:O. When can we do this?

Sacred Ashes.  If you have her or Wynne in the party and choose to desecrate the ashes with dragon's blood, they attack you.

I guess that two wholes different characters as possible spymaster (therefore important/present characters in game) would have been too complicated to do, even if I would have liked they put such emphasis on choices.

And now I just wish we get to see at least a name about a future spymaster if she's divine...

Thing is, there's some... interesting stuff going on with her. This resurrection and then the fact she somehow has a blight resistance. My gut says it's tied to Justina but who knows.

Hm... Claims to hear the maker and seems to know him better than most, has prophetic visions that actually let her predict the future on some level, is red headed just like Andraste was, gets uber mad when you defile the ashes to the point where it's almost as if she felt a kinship with them, has a magical resurrection if killed... Maybe the Cult of Andraste was right, she was reborn. They simply got it wrong about who or what her reborn self was .

I never killed Leliana, but I sure as crap killed Justice at the end of Awakenings, yet he still managed to possess Anders.  Way to ruin a perfectly good mage, Justice. So lots of characters die and still make it back into the world.

Can't you just also not recruit the crazy and let her get overrun by Darkspawn in Lothering?  Of course, if that were to happen BW could explain she just fought her way out.

Because she tries to kill the warden?I love how in Dai she says how terrible person warden is for killing her despite she was one who tried to kill him.

It is retcon Anders always becomes GW even if send him with templar that wanted him dead and always merges with Justice even if they didn't meet or Justice died.Pretty much bioware brought 2 unnecessary characters destroying any varieties in choices concerning them.

If you didn't recruit her she left lothering.

Rather tied to that she is writers pet.

I make sure to keep all Companions I can alive. I simply fall in love with all of them and do whatever it takes to keep them all alive. You can imagine that the Virmire decision for me was particularly difficult... When the first trailers for DA:I began circulating and they showed Leliana being tortured...I agonized for months and imagined all the horrible ways I would kill the expletive that dare lay his hand on my MurderyOrlesianBFFLNFPPBFRR. Of course she beat me to it LOL! That's Lels' for ya! #Flemeth2016

You can kill Wynne even before Urn if you tell her that you annul circle when you meet her during broken circle ,another opportunity is when you agree with Cullen that mages need to be slained before fight with Uldred.

 Same here! I just can't be -really- mean to them...  So killing them ? No, just. No.

...Well, almost. I killed Anders (but before that, we were friends!)

And back to the topic... At least, she acknowledge that she had been killed... It's something.
