Regarding those weapons where we need to acquire a blue and hold it in our inventory in order to get the purple, do we know which weapons these are specifically?

I only ask because I've been getting a lot of blues with names I don't recognize (I think they're new) that I would ordinarily chuck but don't because it might be one that translates to a purple.

As a consequence, they're just kind of taking up space.  It'd be great to know which ones can be safely eliminated without compromising my ability to get what might be an amazing purple.

Apologies in advance if this is an unbelievably stupid question and there's something obvious I've completely missed.

They are the only level 26 blues.

http://forum.bioware...ons/?p=19538959

Also their drop rate is real something ****** special, I found only 2 blue weapons after what, 50 dragon kills now? I actually found more Hakkon weapons than the purple variant weapons by now.

I think that they are the only level 26 blues in the game atm. A few of them have "revered" or "lyrium infused" in the title, but not all, the dagger for example is stone something.

Just keep an eye out for item level 26

Really, this is the very 1st time I have EVER heard about this.  I don't think I've chucked a blue of the ones listed but the way info trickles out for this game .....

They should really have some kind of in game announcement system. How the **** are you supposed to figure stuff like this out if you don't visit the forums?

I only know because someone else told me, lol. Seems true so far, I haven't heard of anyone getting the new dragon locked purples without having the blue first, both of which drop for sure from perilous and nightmare dragons.

Hell I have my own personal chair in the corner for these forums and I still never heard about this.

Actually, I'm not sure this drop system is working as described/intended. It sure as hell didn't work in Beta.

On live, I know 2 confirmed cases of the purple staff (Isana's Song) dropping without having the blue one (Lyrium Infused Staff) in inventory.

I myself have salvaged a blue item, (having received the purple version) and was still able to receive the purple (again).

Not telling people to salvage their blues, but I'm just saying this info may not be as accurate as we'd like.

Not sure if bioware lied again or are just incompetent. Leaning towards the latter on this one. Doubt this will get fixed, i havent seen any of the devs even talk about this outside of beta.

I've gotten the bow and the maul so far and in both cases I had the blue version first. I'm not using either at the moment, the dps is higher but the maul has no AOE and neither have HOK.

I have to keep the blue in my inventory to get the purple version?

It's not enough to just loot it?

Who the **** decided to make this a thing?

I know, right?  This is what I've been led to believe and no dev has corrected posts that posit so.

They desperately need an official FAQ to address these obscure rules.

There is absolutely no way to anticipate this rule or the loot bar.

And since they track items looted, it shouldn't be difficult to display it to the players instead of us having to fumble around in the dark.

So, THAT explains why Drasca was telling me in the Twitch chat of my livestream tonight to not salvage any Level 26 blue weapons from dragons.

I sorta wondered WTF that meant, but I trust Drasca's game knowledge implicitly, so I just stored the info in my head in that little corner where I place the "dunno or understand why, but it's important so REMEMBER" type of stuff.

That is bizarro and this thread is the first I've seen saying to do that and why to do that.

So level 26 blues (which I am light years away from),
anything with dragon in the name...

Anything else I shouldn't dismantle because I might lose a shot at a better weapon?

they think we have to much inventory space :D

good thing we don't have to use them in order to get the uniques...

i did manage to get 3 blue lvl 26 weapons a while ago... didnt get the uniques but got 2 hakkon (3rd and 4th) weapons after i got the blues... so i'm curios about the drop rate chances

I haven't had a lvl 26 blue drop yet. But I did read about them on the forums right after launch. Could have been one of wavebend's posts. Not sure anymore tho. But people that don't constantly keep an eye on these forums have zero chance to know this. Which is absurd.

I didn't think it could be true but they confirmed it in last week's Twitch. There's a thread that says to keep the blues that was posted shortly after the weapons went live but it was in the Weapons & Armor Customization sub-forum not this one. Since even regulars to Combat Strategy don't go to the other MP sub-forums it's not surprising it was overlooked.

You are not the only one. I had to explain it to a lot of people on my FL who weren't aware of it. It doesn't really help that some part of the drop system seems to be working as intended and that the drop chance for both the blue and purple weapons seems to be abysmally low.

I only just realised today that those lv26 weapons can drop duplicates unlike hakkon weapons... Damn when will I get that dagger this way?

How the **** are you supposed to figure stuff like this out if you don't visit the forums?

The same way you figure out the effectiveness of armour penetration and some other things which is possible by:
A. Searching the Forums or Internet in general
B. Extensive Testing
C. Luck
D. Never

This lack of information of how the game works ist somthing common in many games nowadays. DAI is actually one of the few cases where that particular aspect improved compared to predecessors.

It's not nearly as big a deal that damage mechanics are under the hood.

It's enough for some people to know intuitively that more armor pen is good, and it doesn't matter if it's not as good as crit chance mathematically (or whatever).

There is no way to know intuitively that you need to keep the blue version in order to have a chance at the purple.
