It's ridiculous that you don't even want to kill a Banshee before the budget is depleted.

In history it has always been a reasonable strategy to eliminate the leaders first.

(Or: At least be happy in the cases you managed to do that)

Speaking of leaders:

In ME there are no real bosses.  Maybe if you are new to the game and see your first Praetorian on Bronze.  But on gold and especially Platinum I am really missing real boss fights.

Back to the wave budget:

I don't like the whole system, I think it should be changed in Andromeda.

For example: Just 10 minutes ago I snipered a Geth Prime who was standing in a corner of Hydra.

Because we were spread over the map,  the exact same Prime now hops around the same corner just where the other one died a second ago.

There has to be other ways - ways that would hold up the immersion a little better. right ?

also: score-whores don't want to kill bosses for another reason:  Their pps (points per second)  ;)

is way lower than of every smaller enemy (for example 1-shot popping Guardians or Rocket Troopers, etc.)

Right, the Primes should have 100k more shields, endless Siege Pulse spam, and shoulder-mounted machine gun turrets

for starters

maybe they can transform into a helicoptor or something and do all that from midair

OH by the Goddess, banish such wicked thoughts. Don't make me call for a quarian assistance to nuke that thing. ;)

LOL "budget"  on platinum, the game be spending like its the head of a ponzi scheme.

Edit: I find it way more quicker to get rid of the mooks & middle bosses 1st...thats why gold games with me go really fast..While everyone is concerned with the atlas, I am taking care of the goons, engineers, centurions..You are working on a banshee...cool, I will handle the marauders, ravagers & brutes

just edited my edit.

^ thank you Helix, I just edited my drunken edit to correct my edit. Someone has a wave budget spreadsheet on here somewhere. I never knew about the wave budget until I did a solo, where 1 wave I was running from a banshee, killing everything else around her until somehow that banshee mysteriously vanished without me firing 1 shot at her

I'll have you know, it doesn't take to be a scorewhore to want to kill other enemies before bosses. It might be just the opposite, to try and make the match go as fast as possible for the whole team.

^^ Welcome back Deerber, and thanks for agreeing with me...taking out everything else before working on bosses makes the games go really fast.

I think you have to understand your role in the game depending your kit and the weapon you have. If you're a Javelin GI vs Cerberus, don't go out of your way to headshot every Nemesis you see and spend 10 seconds chasing each one. Take out those Atlases instead, kill the Phantoms or Goons. If you're a Novaguard, don't chip away at Atlases unless you have a good team of primers, instead do go for Nemesis and Phantoms and other mooks.

Same goes for most other factions. If you have a strong gun - take out bosses as much as you can, if you have crowd control powers - take out mooks and leave big baddies for Typhoon Destroyer for example.

that's right  -  but my point is:  why does it make everything faster?

Because of the way the "wave budget" works

actually, this was the first sentence in my post   ;)

"score-whoring" might just be another reason

I hope it will be different in ME Andromeda

I agree, and I blame Cobras for this. If boss units had budget costs that matched how tough they are, spawn nuking with missiles would be even more OP than it already is.

Yeah, I agree with the general idea of the thread. I was just arguing against the last sentence, since it's not the first time I see people linking smart enemy picking behaviour with scorewhoring.

Bosses are also bullet sponges that can either sync-kill you or 3 shot you or both and they all cheat hard, so it's natural to either nuke them or kite them to other pugs.

true.

But sometimes it is.

Again, for most people (or let's say matches) the only reason is a faster and easier game.

I thought this was obvious and therefore I did not write this.

There is one situation in which you would wanna go for bosses first: Piranha with a RoF bonus.

Killing mooks is way more exciting and feels a lot more rewarding than shooting an unholy amount of bullets into a slow-ass moving bullet sponge that doesn't really do anything.

Edited another drunken madness post..I need to stop posting after a session ( usually cuz I am hammered at that point)   Nuking double Primes will always get me to respect you....I understand you don't need to and you can work around them..but the fact that you WANT to nuke them will endear you to me.

Nothing is more satisfying, than lining up 3 Guardians, and Claymoar them down.

This is the crux of the matter. It simply isn't fun to actually fight most of the boss units. They don't require any kind of real strategies or knowlege of game mechanics, and in isolation they aren't actually more difficult to fight than a lowly cannibal or some other idiot mook, you simply backpedal and dump mags into their face until they finally die only to be immediately respawned.

Even if they were worth an adequate amount of points toward the wave budget, I would still ignore and nuke them away because they're insanely boring to "fight". Their massively overbuffed health pools on higher difficulties makes their derp AI all the more apparent, and necessitates bringing shittons of DPS to bludgeon them to death if you don't want to fall asleep waiting for them to die.

I guess I must be the exception here. I'd rather leave the mooks alone most of the time and focus the entire budget on banshees and primes.

Although currently the ME3 "bosses" are simply used as super heavy units instead of real bosses. For ME:A I'd rather see proper mini-bosses show up about halfway through the matches and then a real boss at the very end of the match (maybe raid style or something).

He shows up on W6 and takes your cereal. You have to retrieve it on W10 objective, but he doesn't even wash the bowl when he's done.
