How-to: Heal your Reaver using War Horn

This mechanic seems to elude a lot of players so I decided to post it here.

It is actually possible to fully heal your Reaver with War Horn.

Basically, it's a combination of 2 things:

  • Rampage description says "you gain health with each strike"
  • War Horn upgrade has a "hit" event to damage Guard on all enemies around you which counts as a "strike"

So all you have to do is to activate Rampage, move in the middle of a group and cast War Horn. Boom, full health.

Pretty useful, not to mention now you have feared enemies all around ready to be murdered by yours truly...

 

P.S. My experience with it is that 2 or 3 enemies are more than enough to fully heal you. I also want to thank Drasca for pointing this out to me

Works even better with a skywatchers cleaver. Because of the number of hits theres a big chance war horn will also set off chain lightning.

Sorry to ask, but I have two noob questions?

1) + Heal bonus in armor is good for reaver?

2) Slayer great axe or Sundering maul?

Another thing to consider is that the War Horn animation is painfully slow and thereby prone to interrupts. The attack speed buff from Rampage also affects ability animations, which is quite noticable with War Horn. Ideally you should always try to use War Horn while Rampage is active for both these reasons (ability speed and healing).

Extremely. 16 con / 27 heal bonus is ideal on the armor itself. 200 hp belt unless you have over 200 con promotes or facing NM demons / red templars (then spirit belt)

Hmm... I was curious so I tried this. And I'm assuming the enemies you use it on have to have guard in the first place in order for it to work, because I tried it on enemies who didn't and I received no healing.

 

Okay, it looks like it was just glitched in that match. Tried it in another and it works fine.

I am running in a few problems using War Horn.

 

1) Need to wait a few seconds for Stamina to return after using Rampage to cast War Horn.  That used up some of the Rampage time.

2) The panicked enemies run in all different directions which causes Rampage time to chase them down.

3) With the 4 slots being taken up by Devour, Dragon Rage, Rampage, and War Horn, I can't take Combat Roll.   Combat Roll is so useful to stay alive when getting repeat stuns by a group.

 

So far I think I will take Combat Roll over War Horn unless I can somehow get a 5th ability binded.   I am on a PC why am I limited 4 keys?

1) Attack stuff (basic or dragon rage), dodge/position yourself, + Get stamina passives and use them actively.

2) Positioning. Choose when and where to fight and use war horn, directing aggro to where it is advantageous for you. See 1)

3) What Texas said. You won't need devour when you can heal to full and start the CD reduction cycle.

Devour is really subpar compared to the incredible utility that War Horn offers to the Reaver.

 

The Reaver has native Heal on Hit and Rampage. It already does truckloads of sustained damage with Dragon Rage. Devour brings nothing new to the table: just more (not particularly impressive) damage, and more healing - to a class that's already very strong in these areas.

 

War Horn offers an AoE crowd control. Its upgrade turns it into an AoE attack that strips Guard like there's no tomorrow. It unlocks Flow of Battle. The Reaver has a passive that guarantees crits on Panicked enemies. The synergy of upgraded War Horn + Rampage offers unparalleled burst healing. 

 

War Horn is crazy good on a Reaver.

I see.  It seems like it is to drop Devour.   It would be so hard though since it is like an old friend...

I know what you mean, but when you get enough Heal on Kill and enough damage on your weapon you'll never use Devour. Rampage supplements your healing for emergencies.
